- Intel’s new Meteor Lake based chips are going to be absolutely insane! While it looks like we’ll see the mobile chips first, this new tech will become the 15th gen desktop chips, oh boy there’s a lot to talk about. This is a really, really major change to how Intel makes CPUs, and what Intel calls their biggest architectural shift in 40 years. Yeah, even bigger than Hybrid chips like Alder Lake and Rocket Lake. There is so much to cover here, so let’s get into it.

I don’t really care about Meteor Lake for Desktop that much. But I think for mobile use Meteor Lake is going to be revolutionary. I hope windows Laptops will finally be able to compete with MacBooks in term of efficiency
Windows laptops will beat MacBook in efficiency with meteor
@@HDRPC I wouldn't be too sure about that.
You still have to consider the fact that apple has a huge software optimization on their products at a level that is not possible on windows.
Also the M3 chip on TSMC 3nm is going to be a huge leap in Performance and efficiency.
In my opinion it is not important that windows is AS good as Apple. I would just be happy about a decent Battery runtime on a windows laptop :)
Meteor Lake desktop can be a beast just like Alder Lake when it came out.
@@saricubra2867 wait for arrow lake. It will be the biggest leap in performance and efficiency ever.
@@RechtschreibrichterReiner if you see the review of A17 pro chip that is based on tsmc 3 nm , improvement is not great.
Intel and AMD implementations are so different I don't think its fair to characterize intel's packaging as glue. AMDs on the other hand was built to be simple and cost-effective, it the reason why AMD doesn't have all the nuances of the architecture you see here. Consequently, AMD chiplets consume so much power during inter-die communication, once someone can test it, i will project it to be 5X more power vs intel's implementation. Having seen and analyses the details of this architecture, it was a good decision not to release this on desktop first. It will be a monumental achievement in itself if intel can launch this in volume successfully. That should worry AMD, because what they have here is a very very good baseline to build on top of for generations to come. This was extremely ambitious to throw all this together at once, but I do commend them for innovating - this is not a copy of AMD, its radically different. That's why its taking hours just to understand how everything is working together, unlike a normal architecture deep dive
💯
Amd cost effective?
You know AMD Intel are both a money hungry company and AMD used to be on top but then it was Intel and know it's kind of a mix bag with AMD and intel
@@opheliumzone4671 Yes. A 100%. Intel's way is the expensive way. It uses 3D packaging. 3D packaging is new and expensive. AMD's X3D suffix chips also uses TSMC's 3D packaging technology. AMD uses it only on expensive gaming chip. There is significant cost difference. Intel may use it only on notebook chip where the price premium is higher.
Meteor Lake has a ton of changes, its a revolutionary product. Tiles, new Intel 4 node, new CPU architectures, new GPU architecture with more cores (2X perf), NPU AI cores, new ultra low power island ecores (not the normal ecores). Basically this will be Intels most efficient CPU ever, and bring a ton of new features and performance.
It won't be lololol
@@denverbassheadyou will see in 3 days
Holy crap... Meteor Lake is way more complex than I imagined. But this is a fantastic summary that was easy for a dummy like me to understand. Thanks!
I really, really can't wait to see these in action, and hopefully get my hands on one... I've become obsessed with efficiency on desktop. Don't ask why, cuz I dunno. I just like chasing after as much performance as possible, but with as little heat and few fans as possible. Hopefully this chip can scratch my itch.
Hey 🙋♂, TechTeamGB i have a question PLZ answere this, *where do you get this slides from 0:48, 1:13, 1:16, ?? * i'm searching sinsce last hour and i can't find it on intel site, Can u give me source ??
Arrow Lake was over-fished with well... bow and arrows. Then they added more fish and called it Meatier Lake.
Intel did hire Jim Keller for a little bit
Intel Royal Cove project is in work by Jim Keller.
This made me remember how the first gen core i7 was compared to core 2 quad CPUs
And I'm deadly sure that the successor of meteor lake will be as Sandy bridge was
AV1 streaming on an i3 (Core 3)
Not just streaming but encoding, which is a huge selling point. Now content creators dont need an i9 to render videos
@@__aceofspades that's what I meant, perhaps I should've said live streaming but yes I agree entirely. Also AV1 decode has been available for a long time.
Intels and AMDs chipley designs are very different. AMD uses chiplets to scale count counts. They make 8 core CCDs and add more to increase core counts.
Intel keeps all cores on one chiplet and uses chiplets to separate different tasks into different tiles for the sake of efficiency. It's much more efficient than AMDs design.
AMD needs to figure out how to get their chiplet design working on low power products, while Intel needs to work on scaling their chiplet design up to high perf. Desktop.
Really good video - super informative and to the point.
Now lest wait to see how this all new things stack up in real world usecaes.
These look like extremely interesting changes. Yeah, I am going to be really interested also on the iGPU performance.
Bro sounds EXACTLY like Gary from the game Bully.
A really very good overview of the Intel Meteor Lake pkg. It was so good that I am subscribing to the vlog. :-)
My friend, the audio has some reverb from your room. I would recommend a more closer lab mic for better vocals or maybe some sound treatment to help reduce that type of sound. Also an eq boost on the lows with the type of mic you are using currently, since it sounds like you're far away from the mic.
It's that why his voice sounds like it's trembling or is he exited about the product
@@suli6969 To me it doesn't sound likes hes trembling or anything. The mic wont make you sound a type of way, but you it will make you sound either "close" or "far" from the person, depending on how far the mic is.
Yes, what a revolutionary chip! So much better than the 13th gen! Maybe even triple the improvement!
I guess it makes sense to have the work go to a real thread, before being assessed for relegation to a lesser core, or not.. and interesting to see the SOC tile, and the IO die.
It actually isn't though lol, barely faster than raptor lake in some cases
thanks to AMD and Apple for innovating and pushing Intel to get off their rich butts. Sure looks like Intel is following AMD and Apple.
how is intel following amd?
This has probably been in development for 10+ years, just the research involved in connecting the chiplets together and testing them seperately took years to develop.
Ya like apple isn't rich and lazy
Intel 🩵 currently 13600K
How is that cpu working for you?
So basically the Scheduler needs to come to the 21st century for Amd&Intel
You kept saying rocket instead of raptor. Go Intel!
Subbed
Good stuff, thanks for the detailed summary. Lots of little changes. It does feel like intel is playing catch-up with a lot of things these days, but they're making good progress which will keep AMD motivated as well.
where are the desktop CPUs releasing specifically the "i9" one?
No desktop version of meteor lake. You gotta wait until we 2024 for arrow lake 😂😂😂
rumors say, its 28% slower than a 13900H, how can you be so excided ? 🤥

they arent. 15th gen Arrow lake Q2 2024
@@keponen331 Thanks!
@@keponen331is it not Q4 ???
@@portman8909 I've read Q2, only intel knows for sure tho

Lmao. Intel can't argue the chiplet design helps with yield. Now they're adopting it. This will be interesting.
Intel architecture not build around it so it will take some time until they released it on 14 gen atleast 6-5+ years since gen 8-9;
The talking head said that Intel is merely copying AMD. I don't think so. Intel's tile based architecture is quite a bit more sophisticated than AMD's approach. As I said 6 months ago, it's easier for Intel to catch up to AMD, than it is for AMD to extend their lead. The worm has turned.
umm, every latest fab process is harder and harder ... we are ending; ... currently playing with Z180 and CP/M )))
i wonder how long intel fanboys are gonna stick to intel when they are getting beat on every single category over the next years
Right 😂😂 Intel is dead
The biggest issue for intel based laptops is the terrible battery life. Hopefully this will address that.
Thats what Intel is going to fix
I hope the latency dont get fucked. So many Chips....
There have been zero latency issues with 12th and 13th gen. This does add a new ultra low power ecore island, but Intel has done great with different cores so far
Laptop gamers tend to turn off all power efficiency features because they rarely work as they should at least on Windows which due to the number of possible hardware combinations can never compete with the software/hardware compatibility of the Apple laptops using just a few hardware choices per generation, thus being far easier to refine the experience for Apple based laptops.
As for people using the laptop as actual mobile devices, they tend to set CPU for power efficiency, so the scalability of 3 different power level cores will likely won't be very helpful because they will turn off the option for using high processing power cores anyway, thus the whole architecture makes most sense perhaps for someone that just want to reduce power consumption while plugged-in without getting a drastic reduction in performance, as long as he can live with power transition delays, something which may be far more useful for improving the power efficiency of servers than laptops. Not necessarily a bad idea as there is a lot of money to be made in more power-efficient servers but it looks like laptop-focused Meteor Lake is just a testing bed that will be far more useful somewhere else, while laptop users will be just used as guinea pigs for the latest scalable processing power technology to provide just-in-time delivery model into a world of large scale variable processing power demand computing to compete with RISC based high power efficiency processors that already being used for supercomputers and even a few long battery life Windows laptops that not yet competing with Apple in other regards.
Maybe Intel and Microsoft make some Windows-certified ultrabook laptop line with high hardware/software compatibility and optimization that will make the best use of Microsoft software coupled with Intel's hardware at least for most popular productivity applications but as for now, I am rather skeptical that without highly optimized machines for reasonable prices will Windows laptops using Intel's processors making some serious competition to Apple within this segment when considering current prices of decently powerful well-build ultrabooks with comparable battery life to Apple laptops at least for office tasks.
Tiles are not ' glued' like chiplets and tiles are actually better tech than chiplets...
True. However it may be Intel's biggest weakness. Intel's chip manufacturing has been dragging its feet for several years. Now they are aiming at advanced packaging to catch up. They haven't done much advanced packaging yet. They may suffer the same delay as shrinking the process technology. They are betting on some completely new manufacturing that they have never mass produced before.
@@catchnkill They have been stuck with 10nm... Which was their last DUV process node. Since now they have stepped over to EUV thing are looking much better! You'll see soon enough if you dont believe it.
It's wayy more expensive than anything AMD makes, Intel's margins are terrible. It's a slow death for Intel. In 5 years AMD will be making more money then them
@@denverbasshead you dont even know the price yet... Have you seen the absolutely ridiculous pricing on the new threadrippers? AMD aint cheap, that time is long gone
@@Capeau sorry I meant more expensive to manufacture, Intel has literally nothing to compete with TR so of course AMD can charge whatever they want. AMD is finally going to target mobile the next couple years to take away Intel's last defense before they die
12:27 efficiency graph is misleading .
there is no efficiency gain.
from 2.4Ghz to 3.0Ghz same power= same Ghz
above 1.1Watts same power= more ghz .
to claim efficiency less power = same/more Ghz has to be there
Not a big fan of all this space used for AI shennanigans and graphics. I have a dedicated gpu for that, thanks.
You have to remember that 95% of CPUs go to people without dedicated GPUs. Also the space used for AI is tiny, you wouldnt even get an extra P-core with the space used.
@@__aceofspades more like 80%, and there's no precise info on the VPU area yet.
But yeah, looking extremely unappetizing to me. Guess I'll keep on ryzen for the foreseeable future.
I would prefer they have versions without the AI junk, that way I get the battery life back that circuitry would use, probably even if idled it's wasting power
I think if these chips were so insane Apple would not have fired them from building processors for their Macs. So many of my problems went away the day Apple began using their own chip designs (fabricated by TSMC of course).
You don’t get how innovative works and the management team that was at the helm that fucked up and put into behind on innovation such as Bob Swan who wasn’t even an engineer.
@@user-gu7dn9gr8f this was already in development under bob swan otherwise they are fucked. to get a decent yield out of that is the real task.
Something new coming ever month now, if you want to keep up need to get second job 😥
You have no idea what you're talking about, huh?
Sponsored by AMD.
It’s just a soc, you didn’t describe anything revolutionary
The sad part is it took all the other chip designers to get Intel to innovate again. I'm more interested in Meteor Lake on mobile and hoping Emerald Rapids comes to HEDT desktop. But I'll probably be building myself a TR 7000 next year so I guess it's a wash.
Wayyyyyyy more expensive to manufacturer then anything AMD makes, and intrls margins are worse than AMD now! Its hilarious. Intel is dead!
I have an i5-12500 clean 6 P core chip (non e-core polluted) with windows 10 and this is where I will stay for many years. 1st, I will never move to the disgraced crappy dumbed down windows 11 OS ever. This is because of MS's horrendous downgrade of the taskbar. I must be able to move it to the side on my large 4k monitor. I will never have it boat anchored to the bottom of the screen. I must have the taskbar "never combined" and have the ability to show the full paths of each opened folder in the taskbar. This limits me buying a P-core only chip to keep using windows 10 with no updated thread manager. Now you talk about all the strange new probable latencies with these stupid e-cores and newer ee-cores just makes me furious limiting my upgrade path in the future. Intel must realize that most people use desktop computers, not low power laptops. They are simply going the wrong way for power users.
Thanks to AMD competition.
