The second generation CLS had one the most beautiful designs ever, very strong, elegant and beautiful. Mercedes shot itself in the knee ever since deciding to base everything on the A-Class platform...
Am I the only one that still thinks it's a damn shame there won't be a CLS63? ._. Also: the reason why BMW and Mercedes look so "Asian" is because they want to appeal more to the market in Asia, since Sedans and SUVs are extremely popular there. Although I don't get that personally, in Korea for example everyone wants a german car because they're german xD
@@domingosalmeida8119 neither are all of the SUVs, which get an AMG variant. I think the only reason the CLS isn't getting an AMG version is because of the GT63. Which is a shame since I think the CLS is way more beautiful and sleek. Nothing will ever beat the W222 S63 Sedan though ^^
Especially after being the ones that brought fantastic designs like the 213 or the 222 to us - how can those who made these balanced, beautiful designs even be remotely happy with the work on this one.
First gen cls is still the best design in my eyes. Everytime I see one on the road I think of it, the lines just flows in the side view. and headlights and taillights fits perfectly.
Absolutely brilliant! Your reorientation of the grille and headlights brings back that "Mercedes" look that I love. Your version is the keeper! Thank you.
Hey, just found your video and I have to agree with you. The look of current Mercedes-Benz cars has gotten a little bit to masculine and a little bit to aggressive for my taste. I really love your addition of the shoulderline and you are absolutely right about the glass-body proportions. However, I think the rear change made it look a lot more like the sedan and this CLS imo should not represent an E-Class (But I totally support your AMG idea). Furthermore do I think, that your changes of the front weren't really appropriate. I mean yes it looks more elegant, but also more outdated. It really reminds me of the C-Classe Coupe somehow. But in the end I really want to thank you, for sharing your opinion on this subject. It makes one think more about a specific car, and it was a very entertaining video!
The only thing I’d recommend is making that new shoulder line slope down more in the back like the 1st gen one. It kinda gives me VW Arteon vibes how it is now
thank you once again loved the redesign the changes u made a huge difference especially in the front chamfer, shoulder line and the rear lowering and widening
Great outcome. Also blacking out the skirt could give an AMG style approach to reducing the side bulk. FYI wrapping your headphones Spiral cord around your mic mount crates some awful scratching. Just saying 😁
Can you do this with the cls c219 pleaseeee. I know Its a Perfect car but i want to hear or See what you think about the car and what you would change 😁
The Panamericana grill is iconic and I am glad they are going with it across their models. I know it was more work but you should have changed the lines of the bumper. Your end result looks like a facelifted previous gen C-class. This is one of their flagship models so they WILL use the Panamericana grill. Having said that, I've always thought that the rear graphics of this gen CLS are pretty similar to the ones of my first-gen Audi A5.
In your design the front end looks more like a 2010 Corolla mixed with Mercedes grille, I personally like the Mercedes front end the way it is. However, your shoulder line made the proportions look better on the side view.
Hey, can you try to re-design Toyota Century to the current design language Toyota applies to most of their line-ups? Nothing wrong with the Century's design, I'm just curious
Fantastic video, you showed exactly what bothers me with this design / the current design language (made me more aware of what the problem is as well) The 222/213/205 (also 218 facelift) design language was just soooo beautiful in comparison - very balanced too and I always loved the lines on the front with the headlights incorporated. I always disliked the new front and the inverted grill - now I know exactly why! Thanks! :D
Hence why I drive a 205 with a pre facelift 213 inbound. It’s a lot about the Mercedes presence for me that I just love to look at so the new ones really aren’t on my list anymore :( On a sidenote: the facelift 213 rear really does suit the presence well imo but the front, especially the headlights and the smaller chrome frame on the exclusive line, isn’t that nice either. At least the grill isn’t inverted 😅 but still uglier than pre-facelift imo
I'm a big fan of all your work. thumps up. I have a request would you please make an episode (Or a series) about famous car designers like Robert opron who died recently and Paul Bracq. .. thanks.
I think that since you said that it looks like it was done by asian designers, the front facia looks like they referred to an ancient Japanese Samurai's general's mask.
@@Based_Lord I’m ngl, if you smooth out the lower front fascia and put a Volvo logo, I’d say a good bit of people would probably call it a Volvo just by looking at the front end
Love the redesign. I just don't like the rear lights on these new generation mercedes. The previous generation tail lights just look so much more elegant.
Great idea to apply the old Mercedes Design language on this car👍. It would have been great, if Mercedes actually did this. Mercedes cars are now like a block of soap, which was in use for a while with some "AMG" stuff slammed on the car and a big screen glued into the dashboard. At the same time all the little details of the interior which made a Mercedes a Mercedes are removed, such as the lines on the car's body, to create a clean look. But in my opinion it looks to clean, almost like a room in a hospital. The peak of this development are the S class, which has nothing inside apart from ab big screen, and the all new EQS, which doesn't look elegant at all. It almost seems like an expensive Toyota
That chamfer really made a big change, not to mention the headlights. I can see the true identity of Mercedes once again in this redesign.
Which identity is that?
The shouder line is a great add-on. More Mercedesses these days look a bit like a rounded blob.
Looks feminine
The CLS looks brilliant, it reminds me of it's beautiful first gen. I would only like the front to look less agressive.
That's the reason Mercedes has the most aerodynamically efficient cars though
Hushhhhhhh
@@VestigeAesthetics what’s wrong with a feminine design style ? i honestly love the move towards a sleek, smooth, aerodynamic design language

how do these designers sleep after seeing their years of work being outdone in 13 minutes
Exactly
They sleep knowing that they did the best they could while constantly being impeded by penny pinching, 'focus groups' and regulations.

just changing the headlights made it look so much better
I love the content of this man so much
Biggest problem of this car is that it look worse than CLA which is a lot cheaper.
The cla is actually a good looking car. Way better than BMW 2 series GC
@@RomanM803 I know. What I meant is that CLA is looking really good and comfort is very similar, there is no point in buying CLS
The current CLS looks like an A class🤦🏽♂️ that's what I hate about it
Except for the headlight and the rear air vent, I guess the design looks much better than design made by Mercedes.
In my opinion the CLS was gone since 2017 💔
That rear redesign is so perfect. Gives me new Bentley Conti GT vibes for some reason
I can see where you're coming from
The new headlights you gave it look a lot like the GLB

The shape of the headlights were remarkable in the redesign sir.
Would love to see a review and a redesign of the previous CLS (2014-2018), that was such a striking design.
Redesign makes this CLS450 look more cooler..
Absolutely brilliant! Your reorientation of the grille and headlights brings back that "Mercedes" look that I love. Your version is the keeper! Thank you.
this happens rarely, but i do not like your redesign this time, it made it look way bigger, and the rear got a bit ugly, but i guess that's my opinion
Thank you

Very nice job, beautiful end result.

Very reasonable redesign!!! Loved it!
2012 CLS-63S was a perfect design in my opinion.
Very cool redesign!
Hey Sketchy great work on the front but you’ve got to completely redesign the tail lights. Erase the lights on the trunk!!!
Love that CLS 😍
Nice piece of work!
The fact that the CLA250 looks better than the CLS is the biggest issue. I think them discontinuing it is the best idea.
That moment when you realize that sketch monkey videos are best enjoyed at 2x playback speed! 😊
Not gonna lie even my dad didn't like the front end of this CLS450... Thank you for the redesign. It look so much better now 👍🏼
