I saw this video 4 years ago on my laptop as I did not have a cell phone back then that had the internet on it. I wrote out all the instructions long ago and this was my favorite way to make them as they look like the have piping at the opening. I made a pattern for myself for both squares. I made them for all my family in fabrics that had prints of their interests such as light house fabric, fishing etc. During the course of a recent move a couple of my patterns were lost and I do not know how. For the life of me I couldn't remember the measurements and I have been searching for 2 days for this video. I cannot believe it but I could not sleep tonight so I thought I will try to find the tissue cover directions. I changed my wording around this morning for the search bar and I became so excited as soon and this video came up, 1st try for this search, in my mind I said that's it! I remembered your voice and and your sewing and pressing.
I hope you have been well in everyway. I lost my mom to cancer less than 2 years ago and she had bought me a Bernina about 10 years ago with her part time job money. I had been saving for it myself but it was taking forever to save the $1000. I had had only a straight stitch singer from the 1960s. My mom is the one who taught me to sew and I made my high school graduation skirt and jacket. I made my grandmother dresses with purses to match. In my new to me little home (rental for now) I made my bathroom valance.
I am in a 3 day craft sale in October and I want to have a good inventory of many things and I plan on making tons of these tissue covers. I will buy the tissues in bulk from Amazon and out one in each cover to get whomever started. I am so content now that I have seen this at 2:15 am. I better get to sleep I need to get up early for church. Thank God RUclips videos are not taken down.
Have a great Spring and Summer,
    Rebekah from Arlington, VA

I am so glad you were able to find our tissue cover video. Have fun making them.
The quilt guild I belong to has a community service project of gifting baskets with handmade items inside along with other products. I have been making these tissue covers with the tissues inside for the baskets. It's such a fun project which can be completed quickly and something anyone can use.
Good luck to you and happy sewing!

Your tutorial is the neatest and best tissue pack holder I've surveyed. This is because you managed to hem in all the loose edges that others just used pinking shears on or use a serger.

You directions are very clear & concise, thank you.
What is the finished size? The one I made, came out to be: 4" x 3"
I had the most difficult time finding the small tissues. They offer a new type that is a bi-fold. The tissues I finally found measure 4" x 2" but don't fit in this pattern. They also come out of the plastic at the top in a tab style design. I took the tissues out of the plastic but they just don't fit. Ugh! I'm unsure if my final is the correct size?
I live near Philadelphia and wondered if anyone else has this problem finding the traditional tissues this is designed for?

    • @Needlepointers
      @Needlepointers  Год назад

Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm sorry your pocket tissue holders didn't come out to fit! Our pocket tissue holders final measurements are 4-3/4" x 3-1/8". The pocket tissue packs by Kleenex are 4.5" x 2.5". The only things I can think are the starting fabric measurements or the seam allowances. We used a 1/4" and a scant 1/4" seam allowances for this project. We do have a written tutorial here: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=249 so this may help you get them the correct size.

It's a great video and I made one, but I think the measurements are off. It came out too small. I looked at a couple of other videos and they said 8 1/2" x 6" for lining and 7" x 6" for the outside fabric. They came out and they fit the travel size tissues. Very clear and concise video, just change the measurements.

You actually don’t have to buy the small plastic wrapped tissues to put in it.
You can pull about 8 to 12 tissues out of a large box of tissues and fold them and put them in the fabric container. Without the plastic wrapping, they won’t slide out as easily either!!
When you pull a tissue out of the box, you lay it down with its crease folded over. Then you fold it one more time, in the opposite direction, and stack about 8 to 12 on top of each other like this.
When I make them, I do them a bit differently, but before I am finished making it, while it still lies flat, I do some diagonal quilting lines on it, even though it is only two layers thick and not three.
It does not need the batting layer in the middle!! But the diagonal or diamond-shaped quilting lines (usually 1/2” apart) give it more dimension and definition, and also make it sturdier. (It also keeps it from slipping out of your hand as easily by giving it a tiny bit of traction between your fingers when you are holding it in your fingers.)
You can also add an element of a contrasting thread color to make it more interesting as well. Or use a multi-colored (variegated) thread.
