i am not one to leave positive comments usually, because a certain standard is expected from people with 100k plus subs, but you probably made the best tutorial i ever watched on anything. clear instructions, no mumbo jumbo, no technical chinese nerd talk, just facts, easily understandable. EXACTLY what i wanted to start making music.
Thank you so much for this comment. I made this video several years ago and I’m glad it’s still helping people. I hope you enjoy Waveform. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Words can’t describe how easy this was after I watched this video and downloaded some sounds from komplete start(since I have a native instrument midi keyboard) Suprisingly tracktion was WAAAAAAAY easier then cakewalk imo, and I’m really thankful for this channel!!!
Sir. Thanks for making this actually fun and easy to follow, without getting to some of the nitty gritty that other youtubers tend to get to when doing a DAW tutorial. Subscribed
One thing about using a qwerty keyboard as midi keyboard, its the quick settings of press this key for this. It overlaps and makes a lot of random things instead of sound. Would be nice to have a video about the technical things that can go wrong and how to fix. Computers never work smoothly for me, so I would personally love it
Thanks man, that tutorial touches the perfect equilibrium between just for fun and minimum quality. I never made music before and just want to have fun with it. Nice!
excellent video! This is my 4th DAW to learn, and while they all do pretty much the same thing, WHERE within each program things are varies. I can see how your pace might be quick for a newbie, but just save it and watch it again whenever needed.
Honestly, with added DDP creation support and some authoring and editing features... this software has the potential to be an incredible mastering workstation. I’m a big Pyramix and Reaper fan, but would much prefer a leaner tool like this to work on, the layout is so logical.
I am going to demo the free version, thank you for posting this. This DAW really interests me and 150 for the pro version is a great price. If I am productive in the free I'm most likely gonna pull the trigger on pro.
this is a great tutorial, definitely better and more up to date then the official ones but one thing I noticed while I was following along was when I went to go pencil in the drum track it would not let me do it with a midi track, I had to use a step track for the drum sampler instead. still not sure if I'm doing something wrong though because you had the option for a step track too but didn't use it.
This looks really intuitive... This is a great tutorial too! I'm terrible at this sort of thing but I might give this a try, it seems like a really nice and easy DAW
Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you have fun with the software. Stick with it, you wont master it in a day. But keep at it and you'll be happily creating and recording music in no time. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Glad you enjoyed the video. I switched from Reaper to Waveform a couple years ago. I’m not sure if the audio quality is any different though. I’ll have to test that out. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Thank you just wanted a back up free daw in case Cakewalk becomes a subscription. Since I’m a very beginner producer and mostly just play instruments and needed a Daw for digital arrangements this helps. I’ll figure out mixing and mastering in this Daw later since that was Cakewalks specialty. Anyways thanks for the videos
Excellent tutorial thank you. I am running into the issue of audio delay when I try recording my guitar. The output is slightly behind the input when I pick a note. I suppose I could be using the time adjust feature incorrectly, but I have tried the max and min adjustments and still experience a delay. I am using Boss Katana driver as midi and Neural DSP soldano as a plugin if that helps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
When I use waveform I record a lot of things direct in. But when I use a live mic I have a latency issue. Vocals and drums are always slightly behind. I go in and manually move these tracks slightly to get the timing right, but how do I correct this issue? Thanks.
I have a specific task i cant figure out how to do, but it should be basic. I want to import voice memo recordings from an iPAD to the WAVEFORM demo DAW on PC.
Thanks for the comprhensive and clear tutorial. Is it possible with Waveform to "record" the click track, we are a small latin combo and during this lockdown I am recording my guitar tracks and then posting to the percussionist, he will then record his track (to the click), post it back so I can delete original guitar track re record my guitar to his percussion, this is now ready for the vocalist and sax player. Long winded I know but can't think of any other way...cheers
You can’t record the click track within waveform. What you could do is get a free metronome plugin and put it into waveform on the master track and render the file with it on. I think Melda Audio has a free metronome plugin but I know there are others out there too. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Hi videos are great. By the way I have a Yamaha 01V (not the 96) and Steinberg UR44C with Cubase 8.5 on my computer. I cannot connect my UR44c with 01v is there away to achieve that ....is it too much asking from you . Thanks in advance Burak
I have the OLD Trackton 6 still on the PC. I guess, it's time I upgrade to the new version of this. I think Tracktion wants some more money from me for the upgrade. I'm a little concerned about the new program not being compatible with my old saved projects. The folks at Tracktion aren't real easy to get customer support.
You could install Waveform Free and test it out. Waveform Free is free so they won’t want any money for the upgrade to it. Then you can see if your old projects work. I started with T7 and I can still open T7 projects in the newest Waveform 13. So I don’t know about T6 but they likely will open.
It’s become my favourite DAW. If you don’t want to fuss with a user interface and just want to make music, this is the one. That’s been my experience with it anyway. Thank you again for watching and commenting. Keep creating! 👊👍
@@AudioTechTV I am pretty much a beginner using DAWs. For now I only messed a bit with BandLab and GarageBand but they are very limited in some respects. My objective is composition. I'm used to use things like Musescore to create ideas for tunes but it doesn't allow me to go all the way to an actual track that is listenable and not just a crude MIDI mush. I tried exporting the scores as MIDI and importing to the DAW but the workflow was horrible. Composing directly in BandLab or GarageBand is very limited though. I haven't found a way to use less standard time signatures or an easy way to use tuplets, for example. I tried the trial for Ableton Live but whoa... I can't even start in that. It's just too complex for what I need. The other DAWs are just too expensive also. This video + your video on Waveform Pro 11 convinced me that this is probably a better direction to go. The free version probably has a lot of what I need and the pro version is not that expensive (and the chord track looks like an AWESOME feature).
@@AudioTechTV but overall: your channel is great for someone like me! I know very little about digital production and I want to learn the basics to bring my composition skills to the next level. Your videos explain a lot of the basic concepts and they are more direct and easy to follow than the official tutorials.
so shouldnt you set the level higher on your audio track to minimize noise when you mix it? Your guitar seems low and you will have t amplify it which will increase the noise. Assuming you have a low noise floor record your audio as hot as you can without clipping. Then when you turn it down for the mix you will have a nice clean track.
Great video, thanks. Question. Which is the better free DAW software in your opinion, Tracktion or pro tools first? Even though pro tools first has limitations. Thanks.
It really depends on what you prefer and what you need. For me Tracktion Waveform is better because I need more tracks and third party plugins. I also find the software to load a lot quicker and it’s not as quirky as pro tools first. But if you want to use pro tools and get used to that workflow pro tools first is fine. You may not need too many tracks. It all depends on what you’re more comfortable with.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks for the info. Another question, can I install both DAW software and only have one interface? And of course just run one DAW software at a time?
If I don't have any instruments, would I be able to edit the instruments sound effects from the software as an alternative? Also, which software works the best for EDM practise?
I'm sorry, but you are not keeping in mind that some people have never used a DAW before. I see no way to make 4OSC make any sound. What button are you pushing?
Great review and clear delivery. I'm struggling to find the right DAW for me at the moment but this looks good. My thing is that I have no interest in recording audio at the moment, I just want to use a DAW as a sequencer for my midi synths. I've not done any music for ages so want to write a group of songs and perfect them before I even start to think about recording audio. Do you think this would be suitable? Thanks.
*Reaper* - it's cheap, actually unlimited demo period like winrar (unless you actually making money with the soft, you can use it for free),fully customisable, but not really easy to use *FL studio* (my fav) - easy to use, awesome inbuilt plugins, one-time payment (don't have to pay for the updates) *Logic Pro X* - I've never used it, but it's what most producers use If you only wanna run virtual instruments, you could just use the standalone versions (no need for a DAW)
I am new to this DAW stuff and I am currently testing Waveform and Cakewalk... A lot of things to learn on both before making up my mind... Any thoughts or tips? Any opinions about Cakewalk?
I tried to make a drum loop without a midi device. I have done as per your instructions, however, I can't find any writing against the vertical keyboard layout on the left, and as a result, I can't assign notes on the midi screen. Why is the description in the keyboard layout missing? Can you please help?
Could you use Waveform Free to record a cappella quartet music? Does it give you the ability to record the tracks separately and digitally "align" the parts, then mix the parts either left or right or both for effect? Thanks!
Yes. You can record multiple tracks at the same time on their own separate tracks. Then you can align them however you like, pan them, add effects, cut parts out, copy and paste parts, add more in or whatever you want.
the tutorial was great i just got one problem when i connect my midi keyboard and i try to enable it and error message pops up saying "can't open midi port" can someone tell me how to fix that problem ?
You have to make sure you register the free version in your Tracktion account and then log into that account within Waveform or else it will default to the demo of the pro version.

Ummm... How do you play a 4OSC synth??? That seems like it should be easy to do but I don't see any play button for it, and you don't explain it...
@@caldercockatoo2234 you can input notes in the MIDI piano roll or use the keyboard or a MIDI controller to play & record live.
