You can play a video or sound bit of crying kittens for melody and see if she goes running to look for her babies. We do it here for farm cats to see where they stashed their litters. Just a thought.

Then white sand and/or pebbles as substrate plus some submerged plants, rock caves and driftwoods to really give that natural look and feel of a natural pond. Think of it as "large size aquarium" that you can aquascape.
