    Who is approving the building these houses? They all need to be questioned and jailed.

      It's about compensating those affected by this government injunction, to demolish chosen properties that obstruct the flow of water passage from the thames, to avoid flooding when it rains. Houses should have full contents insurance coverage, prior to demolition. No house can be erected illegally, without approval from the local ministry, and council.

    • @CharlesOnikosi-ql5sb

      The cost involved in purchasing the land, and then paying the architectural company to design the property, employing building contractors, and developers, installation cost of electricity, water, furnitures, and fittings of light bulbs, windows, paint. Life savings through hard work. These houses have strong structures, and it's obvious that the embankment would never overflow causing extreme flooding in these environments stretching over 300 kilometres. It's just the natural habitat, that needs treatment, and extension of the river to spread evenly to enable free flowing water from the canal. The vegetation are important for the wild animals, and further decoration of the areas creates an amazing oasis for the community. The banana republic would never be subjected to this treatment, without the community gateway. Most builders are employing the construction arm of international companies to prevent any discrepancy of occupancy by the central officials of current administration. Most flooded communities in Nigeria, are not subject to demolition, in preventing potential flooding of the environment. The people deserve justice, for compensation, and not be a victim of property fraud and corruption. This is not right to treat these owners in this wicked manner. Walking away having lost everything you ever worked for destroyed, and who would be responsible for high crimes in the country. These owners of the property should have brought the commissioner of police with their team to this gathering, during the inception of demolition taking place.

    Nigeria government, especially those in Lagos, they take great delight in marking buildings and demolishing them. Why?
    If indeed this was about the canals, we saw the commissioner in front of a blocked canal. Have they cleared that first before going on to demolish built structures? A number of these people have their government-issued documents. Even if you have genuine papers, they will still demolish. Did you provide temporary accommodations for these people before rendering them shelterless?

    Why should the plan of the waterways be a secret document. The Lagos State Government as well as all state governments should make these documents easy to access. It should be on the state government website. Then I won’t spare an iota of sympathy for law breakers whose properties are demolished. I felt pity for the residents.

    • @augustacookeygam5579
      @augustacookeygam5579 26 дней назад

      Tbh these plans are easy to access. Before we built 2 years ago we had to do a survey plan and then submit it at Alausa to find out if the land had any issues on it. We were given the c go ahead to get building approval, we submitted close to 15 documents with payments before we got approval before we built. A lot of people in our estate who built several years ago don't even have survey plans talk less of building permits. The Lagos state government agencies are also to blame because they gave us go ahead to build even before we got building permits because we paid some fines and extra money but we decided to follow the process and ensure we complete it

Not to talk of a complete structure in Lagos. Why is it that the government officials that allowed the commencement of these buildings have not been questioned or prosecuted. Amsterdam is full of water, everywhere in Amsterdam there is a canal there but never flooded.
      When the city is very clean forget about flood. In Amsterdam they always clean their canals.

      Responsible citizens adhere to rules; ignorance doesn't absolve them. It's glaring when individuals construct on drainage lines-it's plain and evident. They assume the government won't respond because they've bribed officials. While there are legitimate criticisms of the government, citizens must also accept blame. It's time to own up to our actions. My sympathy lies with the tenants who rented these spaces, not the homeowners.

      This is one of the reasons why it has never worked, it is not working and will never work. In a society that is regarded as a human society, it is the responsibility of the government to regulate the activities of the citizens for a conducive environment. In Nigeria, the government will even encourage wrong things and use same to punish the citizens later. Citizens will continue to suffer until they accept the truth.
