The musicians look at this conductor because he does not overdo anything. He leaves them space.

It is fascinating observing the conducting dynamics and sensitivity of young Mäkelä, he reflects the purity of emotions at work. The Oslo Philharmonic presented an absolutely remarkable performance. Musicians and conductors are well engaged accompanied by confidence and harmony. - Symphony Purcell - March & Haydn - Symphony No. 49 are soothing to listen, to see and feel. An amazing sound recording.

I didn't know Papa Haydn was behind the greatest opening to a Nintendo game ever, truly one of the greats

He wasn’t; the composer Joseph Haydn’s father Matias (1699-1763) was a wheelwright and local magistrate who composed no music at all.

I am currently transcribing this symphony into braille, and have trawled through various recordings. This one is the freshest, and is the most energising. Bravi a tutti! I love the way Mäkelä stops conducting and lets the orchestra play. He also has a refreshingly innocent, almost childlike [but never childish] quality about him, which I find infectious. Yet there is much wisdom there.

¡Aleluya!

A Clockwork Orange! I had no idea where the opening song came from and performance of the Haydn's symphony was spectacular, every time I think young Mäkelä will go very far in his career.

Wonderful! The Haydn leaps off the page and screen thanks to the virtuosity of all concerned (and Haydn’s genius, of course). Thank you, Klaus, for remembering to program Haydn! Bravo, maestro Mäkelä and the fabulous members of the Oslo Philharmonic!! 💕

I've said on another performance by the Oslo Philharmonic that players must love performing with Klaus conducting. It seems clear on this performance as well. Today I watched an eight minute video about his taking over as principal conductor for the Orchestra de Paris. The narrator said he'd performed once as guest conductor but when he was being considered for the new position the musicians voted UNANIMOUSLY to hire him. These musicians know when a conductor is a person who will bring out the best of their ensemble. I love everything he conducts... plain and simple.

I'm struck my now Klaus puts a old short work like dowland and Purcell directly alongside slightly more familiar and modern works and composers like Haydn and Schumann
