I don't think he's saying pick one side in a conflict. The identitarians are creating conflict, and the distraction of getting everyone bogged down in the minutiae of their particular struggle. It's only necessary to know what we believe, not how to justify what we believe from the point of view of critical theorists.
You pick a side, based on what you think is good. Basically, you find out what both sides say, and then you find the ideas that make sense. And when it comes to voting, you do not vote "the greater good", but what is "the lesser evil". And that is probably not a whole side, but a faction. Example, if we divide in left and right, left have hippies and stalinists, and you can not agree with both of those so you pick one. or right wing, you have monarchists and republicans, and you only agree with one of those. But the "no enemies to the left/right" is based on following people, not ideas. So, if you support something, because Biden or Trump said it, not because it is a good idea, then you are trapped by the "no enemies" idea. Or if you think something is good, because other told you it was right/left wing. Again, because you follow what you are told, not because of the ideas themself.
