Have eaten in Yorkshire Fisheries many times over the years, my wife and kids love it. When in Blackpool, we don't go anywhere else for Fish and Chips. Food is great and staff are friendly and helpful. Hopefully be heading off to Blackpool in the summer this year to stay with family again, haven't been for the last couple of years due to ill health. Fingers crossed.
Hi Tim.. Your review helped us decide the place to eat in Blackpool and we were impressed. Thank you! We liked the fish and the mushy peas. This chippy was one of the few places were the battered fish did not need any seasoning and tasted good on its own. The lemon and tartare sauce did add freshness and elevated the meal. Definitely recommended!
Have you tried the fish & chips at Hodgson's chippy, Lancaster? and City Restaurant, Edinburgh? Worth the visit 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I'm going to travel there,do you think I might get a cheeky discount being in the family and all
The best ANYWHERE not just Blackpool.
We have been going to Yorkshire Fisheries since 1986 and always say they cannot be matched.
Thanks for another great review Tim 10/10.
Tim, i love your 'compare and contrast' approach to your video reviews of all things (piers, holidays, chip dinner etc) because the deeper i go with watcing all the content, it feels like another chapter of a Grand Story, thanks
Thanks for this review- as a native of Yorkshire I must visit this one soon. I like fish & chips and mushy peas. Thanks for the tip about adding butter to home made mushy peas. I admit to shortcutting that with tinned variety. I tried them all over the years and found to my surprise that I preferred Morrisons Saver variety - currently around 25p a tin which will provide 2 good portions and freezes well. You don't get whole peas and the consistency is fine. Keep up the good work.
It's my favourite by far
Good old Blackpool such a great holiday place, the fish and chips looked yummy 😋 x
Looks terrific, the lovely crunching sound when you cut into the battered fish had me bent double with hunger. I haven't been to Blackpool for many, many years but I intend to go there soon and that fish restaurant will be high on my list! Thank you for posting.
Hey Thanks for watching its about the crunch! lol
Blackpool is the poor mans Las Vegas !do t forget your kiss me quick cowboy hat .
Tim, please do a review of the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool. It totally under rated and has a celebrity list that have stayed there as long as your list, and it’s not over priced. Beautiful Victorian hotel, best on the Fylde coast 👍
This is a favourite place of mine in Blackpool. Friendly staff, clean, good quality food & generous portions at a very reasonable price. 👌
Totally agree
Its been 5 years since I was in Blackpool, is that the going rate for fish and chips now! I used to get it for about £3.50 in Cleveleys and despite being a small portion it was still filling!
Just took a walk here in the pouring rain whilst on holiday. Glad to report it was well worth getting drenched for! Would say you missed a trick not trying the home made curry sauce though! 🤤
Absolutely
Hi tim. Me and my partner visited this chip shop on your recommendation with this video and were not let down by the quality of the food.
Looks great! I live in New England..here (unfortunately) very few fish places do it English style (batter dipped); most use crumb coating. There is one place (Old English in Woonsocket RI-its been there since 1910 or so-they use the batter, but no "mushy peas". All the best from Waltham MA USA!
Nice review. “A little bit of freedom” with the fish. Keep up the great work. Always enjoy watching 😊
Good old Blackpool! Probably one of the most unpretentious places on the planet. Remember going on the donkeys on Blackpool beach. My mouth was watering so much looking at that plate of fish & chips. I don’t know how you had the willpower to patiently review it instead of munching the lot in minutes!!!! The restaurant will be really happy with your review I’m sure!
could have not said it better
Going to the donkeys? I married one...just joking.
Almost 10pm here in Australia, I'm off to bed, but will watch in the morning. I LOVE fish and chips! The Aussies think it strange to put vinegar on chips!
What ... do they even put salt on it lol
And it's not malt vinegar, it's white!! 😱
@@lindavis224 ??
Do you have malt viniger in Australia
I got a funny look from Aussies when i asked for a flake in an ice cream. No culture at all. Uk has Walls, Australia has Peters. They also have Woolworths, but not the same, more like morrisons.
At 2:25, it’s not a milk jar, it’s a milk bottle.
It looks so good, right down to the cup of tea.
Visited in July and had the exact same table and server as you. I thought the fish and chips were fantastic, shame you didn’t have the curry sauce with it as that was truly amazing. I’d never had curry sauce with the spice and heat of that before, it made the perfect accompaniment. For me it’s a 10/10 the perfect example of traditional English fish and chip style cuisine.
Yes but I try to have same meal in each place I go to give it a fair rating
@@WalkWithMeTim ahh yeah of course, makes sense
Curry sauce with fish and chips is wonderful!!!!!!😋😋
Thing is, it isn't a curry sauce as its more of a chilli sauce with curry. I'm a local and stopped ordering it. I fact we've stopped going n use Cottage Chippy instead. YF has gone down lately. I've used yf from being a kid and it's such a shame.
Can definitely vouch for the Curry Sauce... 👍
Went to this fish and chip shop a few weeks ago and it was amazing even my daughter is quite fussy with food she had fish and chips and ate the lot thank you so much for this review 😊
That is awesome!
Bispham Kitchen in Blackpool is actually amazing for fish and chips and for anything on their menu, to be honest. It’s absolutely gorgeous food in a lovely atmosphere. They have one in Cleveleys too, but I’ve only ever tried the Bispham one. It is so worth a try, I think you’d love their mushy peas.
I come from Southport and currently living in Australia, I miss British fish and chips and your RUclips channel is just what I need and want to watch, keep up the good work. 😊
Awesome! Thank you! hope you subscribed .. did you see my tour of Southport
@@WalkWithMeTim I sure did and already subscribed
@@Lfclfclfclfcpnepnepne5 my darling dtr lives in Perth when I visited I made her my 'Grannies ' home made chips with beef dripping which was a crazy price to buy but worth it, I fed it to the birds b4 I left🎉,yummy !
My mum worked there a short while in 1968 I was 7 on a Saturday fish and chips from there...then we moved to bispham...pieces in Fleetwood are lovely...not been Yorkshire fisheries for about 15 years..will definitely visit next time iam up ...from Northampton
you should it was great!
Me and my boyfriend are going there on Saturday because he hasn't been and it's been a long time for me since I last went and I do miss their fish and chips immensely.
Went there and it was fantastic I loved it I had the same dish as you Tim I had it at 12:30 ish and I didn't eat again until after 9p.m.
Thanks Tim, excellent review, we visited Yorkshire Fisheries last month, we had take out, agree with your comments about the chips, the batter on our fish had turned soggy by the time we got to the seafront, our fault I guess, we also had a slice of their house steak & kidney pie, they reheat it in a microwave, the pastry was terrible, ended up in the garbage, we'll have to try dining in if we go again.
Oh noooo but the batter wow
The like I gave was for the plate she brought with fish and chips out of this world. And the crunch of the batter! (And for Tim too of course)
lol
Thanks for the video. Did you finish your f & c though ?
Always visit the Yorkshire fisheries when in Blackpool. The food is always spot on.Thanks for doing this review Tim 👍
agree! its the best!
Thanks for your Blackpool Fish and Cip review you did last year Tim,I must say it looks very nice. Were as you like cod I would go for haddock without tartare sauce as I don't like it.Thanks for the video.
Thanks for posting! My mum would take me and my siblings on a steam train from Thornton in the mid sixties for shopping and Yorkshire fisheries! I went back there in the early 2000s and was just not good! I’m glad they’ve given it a makeover, will definitely be popping in thanks to your recommendation! On a side note, the old Victorian train station, Blackpool North, was one of the finest I’d ever seen and was horrified to see it pulled down in the seventies! In my eye, it was as beautiful as st pancreas!
Wow yes I know
Enjoyed this vid. The fish and chips looked delicious. Going down for a few days in May so I will give it a try.. Thanks. 👍
Depending where you are try the cottage chippy. As a local we've swapped from yf to this one 😉
Thank you. Recently moved to Blackpool. I'll certainly check out Y.F.
you should!
Hiya Tim, hope you are well? Those F&C looked very good indeed. One day (hopefully soon I will go to Blackpool and give that place a go! You seem to be a fan of the town as it appears you have been there many times. Where are you from originally as I struggle to suss your accent out. East Anglia perhaps?
Yes east anglia lol
Looked really, really good Tim, worth trying out methinks. I have another for you in Blackpool to try. It's near the Pleasure Beach. Called Bentley's Fish and Chips - 131 Bond St, Blackpool FY4 1HG. Be careful with parking in the area, a mix of permit holders parking, limited time of 1 hour. I've been here three times now including introducing a friend, and he loved it, as do I. Its "eat in" or "takeaway". Opted to eat in, lovely food, make a good cup of tea too, lots of condiments on table, toilets too.
Agree Neil; have been to Bentleys year after year and always excellent F&C! Very nice folk too!
Hmm, maybe you'd like some sort of pea paste? Or maybe purée? If you're ok with liquids, Portuguese/Brazilians seem to have a lot of blended pea-based soups 🙂
I love looking at old photos.
Me too
I've eaten at Yorkshire Fisheries several time before and it's always been superb. However, I can't believe you ruined the taste of that delicious batter by smothering it in tartar sauce😣😣😣
I take it you are not a fan of the TARTA! ;-)
@@WalkWithMeTim it’s ok but I prefer ketchup with fish and chips.
@@FishyCam noooooooo
@@WalkWithMeTim your obviously a southerner 🤣🤣🤣
Everybody has different tastes lol live and let live 👍
This has made us so hungry 😫 😋 brilliant channel 👏 x
Yay! Thank you!
Loving the fish and chip review videos, best ones I’ve been to are Tunny Club in Scarborough and there’s one one the beachfront which opens into the fun fair at Mablethorpe too.
sounds good .. ill have a look
Nice little food review 👍🏻
To be honest when I cook my mushy peas I add butter salt and vinegar
Don’t knock it it’s lush 👍🏻
Cheers Tim , loved it 🥳🥳
Good tip! yes butter a must!
Add bit of mint, works well
I add black pepper and vinegar, yummy!!!!!😋
Mushy peas, drowned in malt vinegar..mmmmmmm.
Hi Tim Wow looks Yummy. Always put milk in after water for the best cuppa. I have to say no to spreading Tartar sauce all over the fish though Tim . Great review thanks for sharing with us. Love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
You should try it Tracey
@@WalkWithMeTim Not sure on that one . Maybe a little on the plate ☺☺ Xxx
Hello Tim! First visit to your channel. And I thought visiting Harry Ramsdens on the sea front the other week was off the charts. I honestly enjoyed every mouthful from there. Couldn’t have put a higher score than a 10 easy.
To the Yorkshire Fisheries I have never visited it. I agree about the chips being a little pale which is a shame. I’d have to add a curry sauce on aswell as mushy peas. I don’t mind how they come as long as there is some taste to them. Bread n butter gotta make a butty when get it. Good idea about tartare sauce in bottle like that. Loved the tiny milk bottle too so cute 💕 give it a 9 too
lol Thanks Sara! hope you subscribed too ;-)
It did look lovely Tim,although I love soggy batter..I know I'm in the minority, but for some reason crispy batter plays havoc with the burb department, and i love brown chips too 😂..and yes mushy peas should deffo be mushy.. have you tried Sainsbury's frozen microwave mushy peas ? They are real mushy🎉
Yorkshire fisheries, London gents, that street is very well travelled.
The secret to good fish x chips is fresh oil not left over from day before .
Love your vids and you always make me hungry i will try this chippy next time i am in blackpool keep the good vids coming
sorry lol
Hi there, there are 2 great fish and chip restaurants in Tynemouth iwhich is 10 miles outside of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The first one is called Marshalls and the second one is called Longsands. Hope that you can get to them soon
Looked a lovely portion, made me wish I gone to Southend today lol
lol
I really like your enthusiasm when you talk on your videos 😍 keep up the good work and I am sure you will have too many subscribers finally 👍
You can never have too many 😂
Tim, what camera & mic are you using?? I’m impressed with the very high quality which adds to the viewing experience! Colour balance is spot on and consistent throughout! I used to be pro photographer.
That means a lot thank you! I do work hard on them , you can see there is a link in the description ;-)
@@WalkWithMeTim I tried the link Tim, so was this on the Canon or the Insta? Rode mic’s are good, always seem very crisp & clear!
Great video Tim, I love Blackpool. Have you tried Notriannis ice-cream in Blackpool? The best ice-cream in Blackpool! ❤️
people keep saying that
Yvonne, as a local I disagree, bonds is better and the best is wallings 🤤
I haven't had my Breakfast yet ,and this watching you eating Fish and chips, Mildenhall Estate fish and chips ,Bury St Edmunds Suffolk, west Suffolk
Looks really nice Tim ,not seen a bad review,on utube ,did you film it afternoon when pouring down ,but least no seagulls after you ,remember Whitby lol🤗
no next day when the sun was out .. could you not tell lol
Been going to this place for over twenty years, never had anything other than fantastic food and service
Hello Tim just watched your video of best fish and chips, I go to whitby every year and on the way up I go through a place called Malton,I stop at a fish and chip restaurant/ takeaway called thompsons best haddock ever, I stop on the way up and on the way back, looking forward to may.
Sat in quiet a few times over the years it's just superb .
agree
Think I'll need to take a trip to Blackpool soon and try that top secret batter! Thanks for the excellent review.
If you ever make it as far north as Largs on the Ayrshire coast then Fishworks is my vote for best chippy in the UK. Tastes amazing.
fireworks .. wow sounds intresting
Yep agree with you there. Have been to Largs and Blackpool restaurants respectively, both are excellent. Regards from Irvine.
Fish and Fritz, Weymouth Dorset
Great video tim .you try whereby whaler in guiseley near leeds 😊
Hi Tim ! hope you wouldn’t mind me asking , but where do you get the music for your videos from?
Epidemic sound ;-)
@@WalkWithMeTim thanks so much Tim!
Chips look stunning. As i said in live chat .. the logo top right looks awesome. Wish i could pull the fish and chips out the screen lol .. even though i dont eat fish.
Lucky you did not find the hidden MediaCity button hidden in the chip shop
The 9/10 popping up made me jump too lol.
LOL yes I love that batter was amazing!
@@WalkWithMeTim The batter is always the best .. but i prefer it on a Jumbo sausage as never had a fish in my life lol
Off to try out this place this week on our annual trip to the illuminations - I have high hopes after watching this 😋
blue dolphin are gorgeous Hastings or the fish hut in old town
thanks Emma
Tim what are you doing to me looks wonderful making me hungry and it's only 6 in the morning. And bread and butter too. Amazing.
Ha ha I had this at 11am lol
That crunch of the batter is torture when you can't get your hands on it Tim.
Pea purée is what it sounds like what you like as a pose to mushy mate, I’m in Blackpool tomorrow will give the place a go myself.
the batter is amazing! tell them I sent you .. who knows I might get a discount lol
We ate here, took a while to find it. It was tipping down with rain but we found the staff very welcoming and the food was lovely.
Yes do more chippies Tim. Best one near me is Jones Newport 0:05 Mon. They cook in Beef fat. I loved the Whitby one and makes me wanna move to Whitby lol. How nice they looked in chef hats. Thanks for sharing :))
Wow worth trying out then a nice change of video as well really did enjoy watching till the next one 😎
Glad to hear it!
Hi hi June
Thank you Tim. I’m going to Blackpool tomorrow so I’m going to try that ❤
Hey Tim love the channel. Do you know if the annual fireworks at the seashore in Yarmouth are on this year? Thanks
Not sure David .. not seen anything about it
@@WalkWithMeTim thanks Tim, yeah we normally head up for that weekend every year. Not a problem we will find plenty to do there anyways. Thanks
You say you like pepper on chips. Fair enough. But where it really becomes magical is on MUSHY PEAS…
I can recommend Lilly's in Blackpool. Lovely chunky white fish. Also their homemade steak pie is amazing, full of chunks of tender beef.
Will be there soon got few places to try basic don't like eating in public but that place looks cool
To soften a butter pat, hold it in the palm of your hand for a minute or two.
Or lift the tea cup, place the wrapped butter on the saucer and then rest the tea cup on top of the packet. Don't let go of the teacup though. Wait 30 seconds and check if the butter is soft enough for you. Repeat until the butter is how you want it.
good tip
ha ha I did that turned to water lol
Always add milk to tea, but add the milk before pouring water in instant coffee - unless water has cooled after boiling.
lol
No, tea first then the milk.
@@Clavinovaman No it doesn’t.
@@Clavinovaman Like I said I always put the milk in last.
@@danielledewitt1 If you read my post properly, you will see that you add milk TO TEA!!! That means you add milk once the tea is made. For coffee, you add add the milk BEFORE you pour the water.
So I have no idea why you are suggesting a disagreement, when you agree all along.?
*_Read and understand people's comments before replying would be my advice._*
im with you when it comes to hot chips... i love crunchy on the outside and soft fluffy inside. that batter is like how my local fish n chip shop cooks the fish. we dont have Cod out here in Australia, our main fish at fish and chip shops is Flake (which is shark) but it looks just like your cod over in UK. my local fish n chips shop does the same amazing crunchy batter, he told me the secret is to not have it too thick, it must be kinda runny to make it crispy and hot fat. i hate a thick flat batter thats like 1/2 inch thick coating a piece of fish. ... i feel like fish n chips now, but its late at night here.. haha
if I watch this in the morning im ready for some
Hi Tim. Glad you enjoyed your meal. Marie
So good
I do love mixing "batter bits" into my peas and/ or beans! Try it Tim!!
I suddenly feel hungry. That looks AMAZING!!
Lol
That fish looked so appetizing!
Proper fish n chips is the thing I'm most looking forward to , moving back to Uk. ( sad eh? Lol )
not at all! its a uk thing!
You had my mouth watering with this video, those fish and chips looked amazing, have noted this place for a future visit. Top tip, add a bit of mint sauce to the mushy peas, yum!! I like my mushy peas just like in the video and not as a watery slurry. The best I've had was in Skegness near that huge car park on the sea front, I think they fried in dripping but not sure, 10/10 though for me and not a fan of fish with skin!!
not sure about mint sauce tho
@@WalkWithMeTim Don't knock it until you try it..😉
@@darkvader7231 they do that I yarmouth I must give it a try
@@WalkWithMeTim it's delicious but then again, I'm a stickler for mint sauce😋

I had the best fish and chips I've ever had here about 18 months ago. I had a takeaway, served from the small hatch.
The chips were amazing - they reminded me of perfectly roasted potatoes. I'm not a mushy peas or tartar man though - brown sauce for me!
I'm going to Blackpool in December tim end of December so I'm heading for this place, the Yorkshire fisheries. Thank you tim 😊
Go there everytime im in blackpool and they never disappoint. Also the washington pub across the road is good, very reasonably priced and good selection of beers
Great Vid Tim that fish looked really tasty

Hey Tim,
I know it’s not at the Coast, but if your ever in Sheffield you should really try Frymasters. You need to go at lunch time thou.
Very highly rated in the area and consistently winning top Fish and Chips shop awards.
I find them very hard to beat.
👍
thanks Dave .. it doesn't have to be at the coast so ill have. look
@@WalkWithMeTim Oh nice one. It’s a simple restaurant in between the City centre and Meadowhall.
I believe that they have a long family history in Fish and Chips.
Portions are not massive but neither are their prices.
But taste wise hard to beat 👌

That's 25/30 from me.
I don't like when you get served your tea way before the meal and the tea ends up cold.
yes I have to agree.. why do they do that
It's made with soda water, which is a true Yorkshire batter ingredient.
I'm already a great fan and regular user. Yorkshire Fisheries definitly Best chippie in Blackpool.

My goodness that meal looks fabulous 👍 thanks lovely video
Thank you 😋
Mother Hubbards is a Yorkshire based fish n chip shop reopening including London
ooohhhhhh
Yes
The people who say milk first in tea, ignore them the have no idea what there talking about and I'll tell you why, the molecular construction of tea leaves means the infusing of the tea only works properly with absolute boiling water, as soon as you add milk the infusion stops so adding milk first would be counteractive for the result your after, even leaving the kettle a minute or 2 after it's boiled means you won't get the best results so unless your milk is also boiling don't add it untill it's infused
However if your a coffee fan and you drink instant coffee or what's called espresso in the Americas that comes in a jar don't add absolute boiling water it will scorch the coffee and make it taste bitter, with coffee after the kettle has boiled leave it for a minute or 2, and with coffee you can add milk or creamer before hand
There ya go and now ya know😆
wow thats always a big debate about tea and coffee and milf first
@@WalkWithMeTim I know, just saying scientifically that's the way it should be made to get the best results
