I just became a first time chicken owner yesterday and these lavender orpingtons are just too cute and sweet. It's been a long time coming and I can't believe I finally own chickens of my own. So neat! Thanks for sharing!
Shes a good looking hen lol. I had 2 lavender orpington roosters and they were so well tempered. Loved scratches but grew quite large. Basically small turkeys. Meet me at the coupe door every afternoon!
we have 2 -7 month old LO hens. Had them since they were chicks and they were raised with a flock of 12 other chicks. They are both very gentle and like being around us, but will absolutely not allow us to pick them up. Ironically, when I'm sitting in a chair in their run, they will jump onto my knee but the instant I try to pet them, they run for the hills. Weird. The rest of our flock are very social and like being held.
How big are your nests for her? How far up of ground? I got 9 hens 1 rooster 🐓. They aren't uses to me always been a runner aways lol I've never had that issue. I wanna let them out to free range but worried they won't go back in seeing they run from us still lol any tips and pointers woukd be awesome.
This might help as far as nesting boxes go.www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2015/11/all-about-chicken-coop-nesting-boxes.html And they'll go back to the coop at dusk on their own.
Ah violet is lovely 💕💕 I am having trouble with one of my buff Orpingtons. Harriette is just over 2 years old and has become very aggressive with the other hens. So much so that I have had to seperate her from the flock. It started when she went broody but the eggs didn’t hatch. Another hen hatched 3 chicks and this set Harriette off. She would attack the mother hen (peanut). I put her in her own house and now she is not broody anymore. After a week on her own, I tried to intergrate her back into the flock but she attacked four other hens. Our poor rooster tried to sort things out but was overwhelmed with it all and gave up. What can I do with Harriette.? Does she need to be rehomed?
@@FreshEggsDaily Hello Lisa, since some time has passed and we have moved house. I’m really happy to report that Harriette has returned to her lovely self and has regained her place in the flock without drama lol 💕
My girlfriend has a hen Lavender Orpington named Quicksilver after the superhero/Avenger in comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, cause she's fast like him. She's very shy and doesn't really like to engage haha.
Thank you!@@FreshEggsDaily So I brought a couple lavenders home today along with a couple others from a local breeder and they all seem a bit compromised on closer inspection. I found red mites on one of the lavenders and a couple alarming bald patches underneath all that fluffy tail. Do you have another video on how you treat mice and lice on chickens? I understand lavenders are particularly prone to this.
@zg2803 ugh. I'm not a fan of acquiring adult birds for this very reason. I always start with chicks only. I don't have a video. There's info on my blog, but definitely let that breeder know you're very unhappy with the condition of the birds...they should never have sold you chickens with mites! www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2013/02/mites-how-to-prevent-them-and-treat.html
Our lavender orpington is violet as well, we hope. We started thinking she was a he because of the comb and wattles looking different than our buff orpington. But she looks exactly like your violet so I am hoping she is a she at 16weeks.
Me and my husband would like to buy these birds. We’re just concerned the rooster may be too loud for our neighbors. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Could we have hens alone ? We don’t want to do anything against natural laws. Thanks !
Hens are perfect by themselves and will lay eggs just fine, all roosters do is fertilize the eggs. If you don't want babies, don't get a rooster! This is a great time to get chicks, hope you find what you're looking for!
@@FreshEggsDaily - Well, I had to forfeit my 1st order. Having eye surgery: Cataracts removed and too much stress getting garden planted, chicks raised. Long story short, my little brood is finally here. 5 Lavender, 4 Chocolate and 1 Buff. The chocolate are very bossy (1 week older might be why, they're bigger) the Lavender and Buff are so sweet. Thanks for sharing your sweet Violet with us.
I just ordered my lavender orphingtons cant wait to raise them!!!
Oh yay! You'll love them.
I got 4 that are 2 months old now they are great, friendly, quiet and they look so cool

No but she needs to be re-added as if she's a new flock member. www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2012/04/adding-to-established-flock-pullet.html?m=1

I'm going to buy some lavender orpington hens that are 2 years old. Would they normally still lay for a while?
Yes they should. At least for a few more years.

I can’t find this color in Thailand . It’s a rare and beautiful color ❤️👍✨❤️🐓🐔🌿✨
It sure is. We love them.
Do you have any recommendations on where to purchase Lavenders like your violet?
I use Meyer Hatchery for my chicks.
I have both genders of lavender orphington
My name is violet 😂
I love that.
This is a joke😂🤣
Um...okay..
