I had the original back in the 80's. Must have been slightly different because I remember the fallen at-at rested neatly on the base. I loved playing with it. Thanks for the video
I wish they still sold kits like this. I'd love some Clone Wars era ones. I remember another one that was inside Echo Base, and had a Rebel Transport plus the Falcon.
I also had the rebel base. Weirdly many years later my folks found a plastic bag ‘time capsule’ squeezed under a floorboard in my bedroom with among things, a snowspeeder from the kit inside. It was returned to its hidey hole for a few more decades to pass! It’s a great kit!
Fantastic work Ian, looks like a fair amount of squinting was done! I have one tucked away to do, it looks like a fun kit, we were lucky enough to get to the locations in Norway earlier in the year, which prompted me to get the kit.
Thank you for this. In the US, the original 1/156 dioramas were released in 1981 by manufacturer MPC and you could buy one for around US$5. In the UK, these were available from AirFix, albeit a year later. Much smaller than the micro-machine playsets. I was 10 with the sets 1983 Christmas presents and I spent hours on them. Back then, there was no Lego Star Wars toys. The first (and certainly most popular set) was concerned with the actual battle, the other focused on the interior of the rebel base....I never painted them. You could recreate the shot snow speeder scene. These were great sets.
Thanks, yeah I loved my Jabba throne room back in 1983 and treated it more like a toy playset than a model. I always wanted the Raiders of the Lost Ark set but sadly never got it :( I've had a love of diorama kits my whole life.
Have the exact same hoth set and the rebel base one the falcon and rebel transport are the stand outs the figures are the same with the exception of rebel pilots and characters
Is it in scale with the micro machine star wars ? Thats great work ,need a Vader in snow flanked and some snow speeders that's brilliant my mate had Jaba throne put it in a fish tank to display
It is slightly smaller than micro machines. We had this kit when I was a kid and a large collection of micro machines. I would mix them back then, but the ships from the kit were a wee bit smaller.

There may be a sweet spot where the fallen ATAT lies better but can't find it myself :) Thanks for the kind comments

They were great kits, I have just purchased the Rebel Base kit so a video should be up soon on that one :)

I love the idea of hiding random collectibles around for future generations to find :)
Currently I‘m working on this one. Was very expensive, but so far makes a lot of fun.
It's worth putting some effort in and is a great basis for a nice diorama. Still pondering on opening and making my Jabba throne room

It's a fun build but very small details. Wish they made stuff like this now
I had this kit as a kid, and played with it unpainted :)
Yeah when I was a kid I never painted my kits either, they were super fun to build then became toys until their inevitable death by air rifle

The cost of these diorama kits seems to have gone through the roof sadly.

You do get 3 snowspeeders but I forgot to show them :)

How tall are the AT-ATs in cm?
They are about 5cm tall
Correction just measured them 9 to 10cm
