Re cutaways, the other annoying thing Sky does is when you're watching Villa as the first live Sunday game, they cut away because Man City have arrived at Arsenal or some such fixture that is kicking off at 4pm, I want to watch Villa, not somebody I don't support getting off a coach etc!
Think it is great how balanced all the views and opinions are, plus never letting yourselves get carried away with all the negative hype of other comments. UTV
A competitive right back upgrade, ready for both CL and PL SHOULD have been the priority in the summer. We are asking Konsa to do the jobs of Cash and Carlos, aswell as his own role. RB and CB roles are very different now in this era. Once upon a time they were similar, not now though. Asking one of your best to cover 1/2 others is bad management. Would you ask Trent to play CB? Or Ruben Diaz play full back? Would Haaland be asked to play LW and create for the other City forward men? Would Saka play LB nowadays? We instead choose to spend £40m on a LB last summer, who isnt starting in the PL regularly now or then. While moving out Moreno on loan to a rival. Anyone using FFP and PSR as excuses now(like the finger pointing at the referees after every poor result), have the blinkers on. Villa have bookkeepers and accountants. They know on the 1st day of each transfer window, what their limit is on spending. Unfortunately this summer the over spending and gambling caught up with those who truly hold the purse strings behind the scenes. So i understand any perceived impatience from the fans or viewers. Any fan being asked to pay close to £100 per ticket has the right to speak their mind. Selling two of your best, most creative players from last season in DL and MD, and then asking for the supporters to pay more is where the vocal fans voice their distain, with this hypocrisy. Coutinho, Dendoncker etc still on our books. Im hearing we might be bring out a 4th kit aswell, for the 1st time in our PL history. If you're buying young, potential players at bargain rates, then they have to get minutes at some point, before they will develop and grow. They must be allowed to get experience in the top competitions in the world. They have to get use to the big games and nights at Villa Park, or away against the very best in the world. Just lost 4 games where these potential players should be getting 90 minutes under their belts. Never mind the draws that came before. I hope the big money signings from the last window work out and progress. But the supporters have constant reminders. Diaby sold after 1 year. Dougie's price was very low. Buendia sat on the bench and cant get a start. Carlos has never truly been good enough to start regularly. Juventus + Chelsea will be fascinating games. If we are resorting to Carlos at CB, Konsa at RB and Digne at LB, i believe those results will show, the balance is off. Im sure Arne Slot said before the Liverpool game, Villa dont change the way they play. This season, with so many new faces, is this true? Can opposition managers kinda guess 90% of our starting line up and formation, due to having so little experience and legs in reserve? Something has to change sooner rather than later. Massive holes infront of the keeper need plugging, in more ways than one.
You both mention/allude to this in this discussion but I've said a few times that one of Unai's best achievements is raising our belief in the team; in getting us lot, who've been watching Villa for years, to genuinely expect us to win every game. The current disappointment, negativity and over analysis of "what's gone wrong" is proof of that. Yes the levels have dropped over the last month but the competition is also getting better. No worries! 10 games gone and Forrest are 5th! Calm down! It's a marathon not a sprint
Dan, enjoying the content I did spot you yesterday in Tesco but you appeared to be a man on a mission pushing the pushchair at 100 mph towards the bread! UTV👍
All the top teams are dropping pts, and those top teams are also the ones with the most internationals, which we’ve had a lot of recently, and it’s unsettled the whole league
Mental fatigue - 2 years of high intensity. That mental fatigue is reason for mistakes which have cost goals. Very competitive year so far too and very tight. Forest and others will drop off as year goes on post Xmas. Just focus on 2 points a game and will be there-there a-bouts
But the people who write ”Bailey is not a professional football player” just want to provoke and upset. The best thing is just to ignore this comments! Mat Kendrick is so good! Cheers from Sweden
Yes one season wonder that’s Leon and you’ll see, 4 seasons in and one good isn’t good enough, that’s my imo so don’t have a meltdown, swap him with Frimpong that would be nice you can’t keep on not having a good winger in the club if we want to challenge top four!
Our finances must've been very tight in the summer transfer window with our net spend of £0 with the sales covering the buys,Gertruider went to Leipzig for €23 million apparently & in today's market that's not such a big fee,i guess we must be still paying for the mistakes made in the past & we had to comply with 2 sets of regulations & not just the premier leagues FFP/PSR rules,we also had to meet UEFA'S rules for playing in Europe which are worse than the rules in English football & are due to get tighter next season with the amount spent on players + their wages going down from 80% to 70% in European competitions & the premier leagues rules might be changed to follow suit with UEFA'S regulations aswell. Things might be tight for a while in our recruitment at Villa.
We a strong team, this just a drop in form.! Villa has the team and manager to come back strong. If we have a great run in CL and finish top 6-4 that's amazing and we on route to do that Not sure about these pointless international breaks.
This quote from the Guardian during the Greece game: "90 min +1: Rogers dribbles down the left, enters the box, thinks about shooting, thinks too long about shooting, and the chance has gone." Yup, that's our Morgan this season.
I think our fan base are funny at times, highlight what Matt said, we're playing in two leagues, like we done in the early 80s so the pressures are enormous. When we return there be a gaggle of us fighting for the top 4 place, won't be easy, some teams are playing good football, we just need to knuckle down and concentrate 👍🙂
Aston Villas style of play has evolved & is not the same as last season like last season wasn't the same as Emery's 1st season,Pep does it at City so i would imagine its to make us less predictable,we're not playing with such a high line this season & i'd have thought any football fan with decent eyesight & a basic knowledge of football can see that every season our system has changed. Anyone that is questioning Unai Emery as our manager after a few bad results should remember how far we've come since he arrived at Villa & how shitty in comparison it was beforehand, it's never going to be plain sailing all the time & only 2 years into the process, patience is needed & a reality check..... up the mighty Villa!!! 🤫
With regard to transfers. I feel like letting Diaby go was a mistake. Even if he wanted to leave, we should have at least asked for more money than we paid for him.
Regarding the high line being deeper this season do you think Unai is trying to get a head start on the new rules coming in?. So next season when people (like Spurs) will probably be getting done by playing the high line we will have the system bedded in.Is it short term pain for long-term gain?.Under the new rules getting an clear offside is going to be very difficult.Or maybe I'm completely wrong and we've just gotten lazy with our high line?.
People need to calm down with all of this talk about our summer being a failure etc etc. I think we're in a place of privilege and we've been very spoilt the last couple of seasons. This has led to us behaving like spoilt brats. Is this season a failure? No. Is it going as we all wanted it to? Probably not, but we've had incredible moments that we can build on. Keep the faith, keep supporting the team.
why not go back to bogarde RB, LB either Digne or maatsen depending on the game and home or away with konsa and torress as CB pairings. Onana, Tielemans and mcginn in midfield with Rogers, Bailey and Watkins up top or potentiall put watkins left with Duran and either rogers or bailey on the wing.
a problem we have now is that we've gone from luiz and kamara who could do both sides of the game really well to tielemans and onana who are the complete opposite in my opinion, tielemans has been better this season defensively and onana is ok going forwards but i think they would both suit a 3 man midfield more so we've gone from two players who are perfect for the system to two players that are still adapting. luiz and kamara were also probably better at protecting the ball and bypassing a press too, tielemans is a great passer but i think he's easier to press than luiz or kamara and i really don't think onana is good under pressure at all, he gives the ball away far too often and its a big problem for us this season. it means we're worse at playing out from the back so the attacking players get the ball slower and less often than last season which also affects players like bailey and watkins who need the ball as soon as possible as they both need space to play their game i think this 11 in a 433 would just suit the players way better than 442 but i would worry about playing that way if kamara isnt fit because onana as a single dm would not be ideal, i actually think this formation would suit philogene and bailey far more as well as duran gk: martinez rb: konsa rcb: carlos lcb: torres lb: maatsen dm: kamara rcm: onana lcm: tielemans rw: bailey cf: watkins lw: rogers we are in a position now where i think emery needs to find a solution in his squad somewhere like a formation change or switching players positions around or something like that because it feels like we've been found out tactically and can't cope with it, i've only really been impressed this season with how we were finding results despite not performing well so the general performance levels have been a problem all season that i think duran has basically single handedly covered up until the last few weeks. what worries me is that the problems i'm seeing are the same kinds of problems we had at the end of last season but we had injuries and fatigue to use as excuses but there isn't an excuse like that this season what i expect to see is that emery will be stubborn with he setup and we try to sign someone in the window to fix the problem instead of finding a solution because any solution would compromise his vision of how he wants us to play, which is fair but i don't think it's ideal if we want to have a good season this year
also if we need to sell someone you would hope you could get some money for buendia but if you get rid of any sentimentality the obvious option in terms of moving someone on that people would want to buy is mcginn. the reason i say that is that if we want to continue with this system i don't think mcginn has a role in the 11, he isn't good as a 10, doesn't play well in a 2 man midfield or out wide and i think we could get good money for him, he's always felt like a player emery is shoehorning into the team because he's the captain and has a relationship with the fans and not because he's the best fit on the pitch
@lemmingsftw2480 Ollie Watkins would bring the cash, plenty of the bigger clubs want him & from our point of view he's almost 30 & it would be the best time to sell & do another mini rebuild. Personally the players I'd sell are obviously Coutihno,Dendoncker. But current players you'd have to put Mcginn,Watkins,Mings,Buendia,Carlos,Digne. Not saying we should but these would be the best for money in,psr etc
Really disappointed in what seems like a pretty significant section of the fan base for their pathetic overreaction to the last few weeks. We are 8th in the champions league, level on points with arsenal in the prem. Grow up and learn to control you spiralling emotions you children
I can't disagree with you guys....I think we got too goo too easy - Brugge apart they were results we may well have expected BUT - we did 'overwin/overperform' early season - many players seem to have lost drive and confidence...Bailey first but thankfully he seems to have 'pulled his socks half way up'..agree?
Bailey has been low on form and confidence for 3 out of he's form seasons, him playing well is the exception not the rule. We love to take sporadic good performances as evidence of a player being amazing, he is good 1 in 8 games which isn't good enough
Spurs have just lost two in three against Ipswich and palace. Come see me when we are doing that. We don’t do that. But of perspective. We are losing to Liverpool and spurs away. We are 8th in the champions league. We shouldn’t even be there! We are virtually 3rd in prem. calm your arses down. We have 28 games to go. You win nothing and lose nothing in November. Enjoy the international break and support the lads after. Up the villa
"We had to sell Douglas Luiz" no. We had to sell a player to meet PSR. They chose to sell Dougie. Which is looking a completely stupid decision. Also onana 50 million, no wonder Everton fans were rejoicing

Luv it when matts on. Always find myself, agreeing with everything he says. Maybe that's my age, in my early 40s😂.
I thought Bailey played better against Liverpool, he hardly lost control of the ball compared to previous games.
