The Green Man is a pub and road junction on High Road, Leytonstone, London. The pub has been rebranded as part of the O'Neill's chain. The current 1920s building replaced an earlier public house, close to the original site; which was built around 1668 and mentioned by Daniel Defoe.
John, before the M25 we would drive through London to visit Essex and I well remember that bus garage - happy memories

I grew up in Leytonstone and upon returning from uni, I lived in snaresbrook, Winstead, Woodford, South Woodford, Laughton and chigwell.... now I live in NZ. so thank you for your lovely walks and tales.. I truly love watching your videos, bringing back so many treasured memories.
Plus there's lots of lovely libraries around there.

Living in Woodford, I’ve occasionally deliberately taken the “wrong train” around the loop to look out the windows. Always wanted to walk around here but never have done for some stupid reason! Love your videos 😀
Fascinating! This popped up by complete chance. I lived in Grange Hill behind the long gone Manor Hall and watched the trains from the footbridge you crossed way back in the ‘60s on those Sunday afternoons with my mum. Drove her mad, only one train every half an hour! She only passed last April at age 93. Great memories 🥰
@John Rogers - I just noticed this! Late but I hope this is interesting to you. May of London (the gun shop) at 20:25 used to be on Queen's Road in Buckhurst Hill and was owned by Ron May. He was also a cycle shop (which is how I knew him) and my Dad also used May's shop for all sorts of country and sporting items too. I'm talking of the late 1960's.

The "golden triangle" (and I find it a particularly obnoxious name) is Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell. I'm from South Woodford but used to live in Buckhurst Hill. We used to have these trashy free magazines that referenced the term constantly posted through our letterbox, full of photos of fake tanned people at awful nightclubs like Faces in Gants Hill. The "bling" that you mention is usually rather tacky in the area.

I did that in my uni years....not by choice but on a strict budget. I used to go clubbing at the Green Man Pub. I really enjoyed your upload sir. I lived in snaresbrook and south woodford ,woodford, and even newbury park. Its changed alot thanks. Take care and please make more.

Hadn't realised the spacing between 'under' and 'ground' on that Top Wanstead roundel before. You've an eye for what to look out for! Redbridge station railings (5:20), views from Limes Farm estate (14:37), that one tall, pebble-dashed house at 18:48... and my house was just out of shot at 21:20 :)
Wow, you're right. The roundel does have a spacing, and the sign does not. Never noticed that before. In proofreading, I call that a spacing mistake rather than a spelling mistake. Ha ha. Thanks for your eagle-eyed comment.
Portal to another world leads to WWII factory on the central line, that was where they lowered the machine equipment down.

When I lived in the area there used to be a foot tunnel underneath the railway between Barkingside and Fairlop. Not sure if it's still there or not but was a great place to hide out from the teachers at our school! Nice use of tilt shift btw!

it was called Fairlop High back then.
I would love to see more of your adventures in Essex, perhaps on the Fenchurch Line or Liverpool street to Southend Victoria line around Shenfield etc as there are lots of green areas.
great suggestion Julie - last Feb I walked from Benfleet to Thorpe Bay along the estuary - but I'd love to strike off inland
@@JohnRogersWalks Your Benfleet to Thorpe Bay walk was one of the first ones I saw of yours as I live in Leigh myself and grew up in Benfleet although Stratford born. I subscribed from that point after sharing it to a Southend facebook group

Good question- it's actually the last track listed in the description because somehow during export Final Cut moved the end of the final track to the start of the video. How that happened is still a mystery- but I use Premiere now

John Rogers I would recommend following the old canal feeder from Ruislip Lido down to the Grand Union in Yeading, interesting walk, some nice untouched brown field sites around Ickenham near the A40.

Northolt is an unusual place, there is the remains of a small ancient stream in "old Northolt" which I always found interesting.
Newbury Park bus station reminds me of Uxbridge underground station with it high concrete vaulted roofs.

How long did this walk take you in real time ?
I can't remember to be honest - but at a guess I'd say about 8 hours to complete the loop back to Leytonstone
@@JohnRogersWalks that's too long but thank you for the video , I plan on doing Hainault to Woodford as that is a better walk with more green space
Does Roding Valley station have faregates?
That's a good question - there are exits on each platform and from memory there aren't fare gates on the side you see in the video here - but I could be wrong

Everyday is silent and grey on the loop
Have you taken central line from Stratford to hainauly via Woodford runs a few times peak times I did it by mistake when a bit tired and hainault via woodford rather than hainault via Newbury Park it's quite a long way round !@
Barkingside is one of my favourite station as it looks
Like a country branch line station which of course it was, and long viaduct approaching Fairlop is quite a feat of engineering.
