If you need to get inside the printer to remive jams or fallen objects, it is very simple. Just 4 screws need to be remo ed to get inside the printer.

I wish you had shown how to remove the carriage. One common problem with MX490 series (MX494) is error code 5011 which is due to carriage restricted movement. Hard reset is not a lasting solution as in many cases, after hard reset and followed by shutdown, on switching on the printer, again error 5011 shows up. One needs to attend to the carriage restricted movement issue to solve it and hence if you could have shown the carriage removal process, it could have helped many users. I wish you do a short video as a follow-up on this suggestion. Thanks.
Error 5011 usually just needs a cleaning or attaching the timing encoder strip in the back of carriage into the correct position.
@@303electronics Well when inspite of cleaning the encoder strip does not remove the perpetual 5011, one needs to remove the carriage and clean the sliding clips and associated parts. The steel tray edge can be cleaned without the carriage removal but unless the sliding clips are not cleaned properly, one is likely to encounter the 5011 perpetually. Hence, my wish.
will this be similiar to canan mx 350? I need to figure out how to take it apart
A black ribbon came out near the ink cartridges when I opened it and there was also some grey foam that seemed to fit alone the horizontal side of printer. Is this normal mx492?
So my printer doesn't seem to be feeding correctly. the prints come out out of register? I see the tractor feed rollers and have cleaner them with alcohol but it didn't help. Any other ideas? Also what is the the long foam strip along the cartridge track for? Is it replaceable? I had to super glue mine back in place after a paper jam tore it out.
Can you do a disassembly on an ip4700 pixma? I'm trying to access the circuit board and can't figure out the process. Thanks!
Good video, was hoping to figure out where this spring I have goes, my printer jammed and when i went to take the paper out and little tiny spring came along, now my printer wont feed paper, and im sure they spring that came out is the culprit. If you have any idea, that would be awesome!
Hi. Pull out the tray and you will see the pick up roller. The srinh most likely goes under the roller assembly.
@@303electronics Yea I just dont know where at to connect it too, I wish you RUclips supported pictures so you can see the roller assembly. I can 1 spring attached to a roller but can't seem to find the hooks to attach the other roller.
@@303electronics www.reddit.com/r/printerrepair/comments/jd2h7p/tiny_little_spring/ here is the image I posted. Hopefully this might help.
@303 Electronics. Fast question. I brought this printer about 4 yrs ago. Used the ink all up till none left it came with. I left the ink carts in there till this day now. Thinking of buying new ink. Before I do was there maybe any damage done? Meaning them empty carts left in there dried up...
Hi. The cartridges on this printer model come with ink nozzles. So even if the ink dried up on the old cartridges, when you replace ink, it will work very good and no cleaning will be necessary. You should be all good!
@@303electronics thanks for time. Sounds good. One last thing I been wondering about on this printer. Do I need both carts in to print. Or lets say I don't want to spend a arm on ink. I just want to use black. If I put only 1 in ( black ) will it print or tell me put color in also?
What are the parts called that hold the ink cartridges? Mine are missing and I can't insert my ink cartridges
The printer will print fine and copy from the flat scanner but will not feed from the document feed on the top. It beeps when paper is put in place but the only message is ‘place document on platen’. Is it savable or junk….I just bought new ink a couple weeks ago so I will continue to use it for printing until the ink runs out.
There are rollers that pick up paper from the feeder. The rollers accumulate ink and paper dusk with time. Clean the rollers with alcohol swabs or paper towel and windex or similar cleaner. Sometimes warm water helps too. Don't spray liquid at the roller, just towel or napkin.
any advice for error B203??
I just constantly get the error code 5100. I’ve tried everything!
I have Pima mx492 printer and for some it’s printer buttons doesn’t work except the power button. Any advice??
Hi. Could the buttons be stuck?
Where to put the small spring? I think it's beside the scanner lamp
There are a few springs. Usuallu you will see a hook for spring or a cross shaped plastic spring holder
how can we put the stripe with the spring back in again
Yeah , I saw that lil conical spring fell out from scanner but I don't know where it goes ?
Hello, could you tell me what parts of this printer need to be repaired for the error 6801? I've tried the reset and it's not working :( I can't understand what part is in need of repair as the error code is in Japanese? I have refilled the original ink cartridges with a syringe and ink i purchased to save on cost. Hoping I didn't break the printer by doing this. It did work after i did that, but all of a sudden it has stopped working?
Thanks :)
Hi. There may be ink build up around the cartridge rest area. Also, see if there is some cleaning to be done in the back of the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge goes. Especially all contacts. If you remove the cartridges does the error go away? If so, on of the cartridges may be damaged or fried.
Any "Canon Pixma MX490 RE-assembly" videos? 😬😉
I do not have one yet. I suggest taking pictures when you disconnect or remove something on the printer so you know what goes where. A lot of times these types of printers won't be too hard to put back. I will see what I have in shop and if I do have a similar, I will try to make a video.
How do you put it together
I do not have a video on how to put it together, but if you are fixing something, I recommend taking pictures of the process so you know what goes where. The point of this video is to show which screws and clips hold what to get access to certain parts.
good video but how can i get the service tool for this printer
I use a regular Philips head screwdriver.
How can I use the MX492 as a scanner without any ink cartridges?
That's not going to be possible. I'm sorry. Have a great weekend.
@@303electronics Thanks for the quick response. Sheer corporate greed. I will be hesitant to buy any Canon product.
I have the mx490 I plug it in and turn it on and it goes to the error solid orange nothing comes up on the LCD screen so I do not know what's wrong with it? my husband thinks it needs to be cleaned by an air can and it will work. I don't think that's the problem!!! any one have an idea???
Hi. First thing to check would be the ink cartridges. Remove them and if there is any ink on the back of the cartridge, clean it and clean the inside of the printer ink carrier where the cartridge goes. Let me know if anything changes.
is it possible to replace the glass?
I think it is possible, but I've never tried it
So there is an error message for 6000. What does that mean?
Hi did you figure it out? I’m having the same issue
My key pad won't work is it worth fixing
Hi. You may try removing the contrl panel and see if everything is connected properly on the panel and to the panel. I'm not sure if it is worth fixing. If it costs you extra money to buy parts, it may not be.
My printer turns on and acts like it’s going to print without feeding paper and turns off. Keeps doing this for hours if I let it. Also the screen stays on “canon” not copy 1 etc so I can’t even turn it on or off
Husband changes the black cartridge and now mine does the same thing. It acts like it’s going to print and shuts off and back on. The “canon” stays on the screen. Tried reset to factory defaults it won’t even do that. Guess it’s going in the trash and I purchase a new one. We are living in a throw away world.
Hi. I'm sorry you are having trouble with the printer. Make sure all packaging is removed from cartridge. If you put your old cartridge in, does it do that? If not, it is most likely a faulty cartridge.
Try removing cartridges and cleaning contact areas on the back or cartridge or printhead.
This printer is a piece of shit!! I have hardly used it since I got it. I tried taking it apart to see if there was something visibly wrong with it. I tried 2 other print cartridges and nothing. It's not printing anything. I've looked at other forums tried different things. It's just a piece of walmart shit!! The only thing good about it is that the screws are all the same. That's about it. Well, I guess I am never buying canon again. Cool vid..thanks for the instructions.
