Yeah. I literally broke down in tears while watching. I feel a tremendous weight lifted off my chest. Yes I am willing to go the distance. We got this premeds.
You got this!! I'm always here cheering you on. Thanks for watching. :)
I needed this. I’m breaking down in tears, I went to the nursing route and once I’m done, I’m going back to study for the mcat again
Nursing is a great profession if THAT is your dream. If med school is your dream then use your nursing experience to enhance your journey but don't stop there. YES to resuming your MCAT studies when ready
Wow, you are awesome! I needed to hear this. I decree and declare that the MCAT will NOT stop me from achieving my goal of becoming a medical doctor!
Glad this came at the right time and amen! The MCAT will NOT stop you because you will NOT stop!
You've got this!
Thank you so much Leah, what an inspirational message. I came across your channel today while looking for help with organic chemistry. Today, in particular, I needed to see this video because I was feeling helpless and I was asking myself if I am wasting my time. I am studying for the Irish GAMSAT and I have very little time left (the exam is in less than 3 weeks' time). All the odds are against me - the struggle of coming from a non-science background, non-native speaker, timing, age, life getting in the way and making it nearly impossible to concentrate and find the time to study - but... for some reason I keep going, and your words were very encouraging. Thank you, I will follow you and recommend your videos!
So happy that I helped you find the strength to keep pushing for your dream!
I wasn’t smart enough, but resilient. At the end of the day is how much you want to be a doctor. Excellent video!
exactly!!!!! congrats on not giving up
I wish we had RUclips 35yrs ago! We did not have influencers like you at the time when I was asking the same question. I think my career path and trajectory would have been so different. Now that I am wiser, you are so RIGHT...it is how stubborn you are and not just how "smart" you are. I do use that line with my students now. Thanks for this and other videos!
You are so welcome! RUclips has definitely changed the layout.
Thank you so much I needed this kick in the back side! Thank you Leah there are times when my tank is so low I need a refill and this was the refill I needed. You’re awesome!
You're so welcome, and great to hear from you!
I needed this! Thank you for being you and sharing this with us who are on this path! It’s tough, but it’s all about the journey not the destination
You're so very welcome! I'm glad it resonated with you. Never let anything stand in the way of your dream!
Thank you so so so much Leah, perfect timing 🤗😁
You're so welcome! Glad it came at the right time for you!
Thank you so much for this video, Leah! I really needed this😊
You're very welcome!! I'm glad it resonated with you because the premed journey is NOT easy.
You can do it!!
Thank you.
So so timely.
You are so welcome!
You've got a good head on your shoulder Leah. I really appreciated this talk, thank you for putting your thinking process out there. Introspection and talking to yourself is invaluable :)
You're very welcome and thank you for the kind words :)
This video is so encouraging. It's the first time I ever subscribe to a channel on RUclips. Thank you so much I needed that. I am going to listen to this video every day.
Oh wow, I'm so honored to be the first channel you've subscribed to, and I'm happy to hear how much this video specifically is encouraging you!
I really needed this I’m crying so much and not feeling good enough to take this being a cognitive psychology and neuroscience major . Physics is so hard to go over I hope to make it into med school , I was in a Caribbean school and left last month because I felt like I wanted more. Thank you for this video
95% of my students find physics to be the most difficult MCAT science. That's ok, just work as hard as you need to understand it and never give up! If you want it badly enough you WILL GET THERE!!
Thanks for this 💙🙏🏻
You're very welcome
You taught the topics easily and quite comprehensively.
Thank you
Got the right advice at right time ♥️. Thankyou ma'am ☺️
You're very welcome! So happy that this came at the right time for you
I love you Leah thank you for this message. One thing I am is definitely stubborn enough to do it
You're so welcome, I'm glad it resonated with you!
Thank you for this video, it came at the perfect time. I’m taking the MCAT for the third time in a couple of weeks and my practice scores have not been great. It’s been making me question myself and my abilities. But this was a kick that I needed.
Wow, thanks for watching! If your practice scores haven't been meeting your target, why not take a step back and re-evaluate? First, stop and watch this video: ruclips.net/video/O8jTntsGHjk/видео.html
Then, I'd love to speak with you more about your upcoming test and goals! Feel free to reach out to me through my website at Leah4sci.com/contact
My mentor who is a retired neurologist used to say all Drs are great at memorization and some are smart as well.
So true! Keep that in mind on your journey.
This test has been a mental block for me for going on a decade now. I'm about to enroll in your self study MCAT study hall and finally get this out of the way to apply this cycle. You are a breath of fresh air!!!!
So excited to know that I've helped you along the way and I'm honored to work with you in the Study Hall!
thank you. I really needed this.
You're so welcome!
You are the best!!
Thank you so much! :)
I love her positivity
Thank you! I challenge you to see it as more than just 'positivity'. I challenge you to use this to challenge yourself to NEVER give up when there are goals to be reached.
I’m willing to do whatever it takes!!
YES! First step is a commitment to not giving up, second step: figuring out the plan that will help you reach your goals
Thanks :')
You're welcome!
I am so playing this for my students
Love it! What/where do you teach?
I ask myself this too often
And... how do you feel about the answer now? How do you feel about your goals?
I needed this. I am stubborn hahaha.
Stubborn is GOOD!! Stubborn means you will NOT GIVE UP!
yes
Yes...what?
yes no dought
You've got this!
Oh Yeshhh, here comes a guy who plans to become a doctor after getting his ASCP blood bank board certification. I needed this. Here we come, Med School! 😎
You've got this!! :)
Love this entire video….except the “well why don’t you consider nursing”. Nursing model and physician model are very different, apples and oranges and in this context, it sounds as tho nursing is “lesser” rather than “different” As a BSN who went back to school and done with pre-reqs and signed up for MCAT (and struggling, but so what!), that one particular part of this video left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.
I totally understand where you’re coming from, but it seemed like she gave an example of an advisor saying that an individual should try nursing instead of being a doctor. It it unfortunate that nursing is viewed as lesser rather than different.
i feel like you didn’t listen to the video
Heidi, I apologize if the message in this video wasn't clear. I think nursing is a wonderful profession and I personally have quite a few nurse friends. If nursing is your goal then it's a wonderful profession.
Nursing in the context of this video is different in that unfortunately many advisors tend to tell their students 'if you are not good enough for medical school go into nursing'. The advisors see it as a 'consolation prize' not understanding that it is an entirely different profession. I'd never knock on nurses!! After all the procedures I've gone through it's the NURSES who were always by my side taking care of me in recovery, both physically and emotionally. They work so hard and are often so under appreciated.
Tiarra: EXACTLY!!
Don’t agree with this.
You do have to be smart to get into medical school.
Just confront yourself.
I’m “neurodivergent” learner with a high IQ.
You will struggle in medical school once you’ve gotten in if you haven’t taken a post-bacc before enrolling (you should be scoring 160 or so on the nbme practice exams before starting medical school if you struggled to pass the MCAT).
How about we agree to disagree?
This is not just my opinion, this is based on working with many many students, many of whom are of 'average intelligence' but worked really hard. These students are now thriving in med school, residency and beyond. Can't argue with the facts
I can't agree to disagree. Too important (sorry).
your arguments come from self-reporting, and that self-reporting comes from an unreliable source (the medical students themselves).
I get to see what actually happens to them.
This is actually where I have added experience, not fewer facts, but a more robust understanding (if anything).
Take my advice people, I am not saying that Leah isn't well-meaning, but this is your life and you should know what you're getting into financially and psycho-socially.
Having said that when you do struggle AND MAKE IT won't that be nice? I have full confidence that you won't need to be a normal learner to succeed in ACTUAL medicine (only academia / USMLE testing).
For some people their struggle ends with a lot of debt and nothing to show for their efforts when their student loans are denied on the basis of low scores.
If what I am saying doesn't deter you, then you'll make it eventually, but you should hear the truth about the long road ahead.
@@adamkatz6532 I'm wondering if your experience is from another country? Most students in the US matriculate into med school without a postbacc and certainly most (if not all) are not taking any practice NBME exams before entering. Also, being approved for student loans is not contingent on obtaining a certain score on an exam.
@@antyp.6271 you're actually misunderstanding me, which is totally fine.
RE:if your experience is from another country?
My experience is in the USA.
RE:student loans is not contingent on obtaining a certain score on an exam
Many american medical schools require their students to pass something called a CBSE which is a USMLE step 1 equivalency exam. It is what medical schools use to "trim the fat" and raise their average USMLE step 1 scores to compete for applicants on subsequent years.
My school instituted a course wherein passing the CBSE was tantamount to passing the entire semester.
Failing that course meant repeating a year of medical school and jeopardized many student's student loan circumstances.
This happened, and you should know about it.
RE: Most students... [attend] without a postbacc and certainly most [dont take nbme's first]
I am not suggesting that it is common for anyone to take an NBME before attending medical school.
I am saying that those of us who struggle with standardized testing(as is the case for me), should highly consider a timeline such as this:
(1)pass the MCAT
(2)attend an effective post-bacc program (designed specifically to prepare you for material you would see on the step 1 exam)
(3) obtain a score of 150 or so on a retired NBME exam
a 150 is NOT a passing a score.
the difference between a 150 and a 194 (passing) level of medical knowledge is enormous.
ENJOY medical school, take it out in small bites.
your career will be long and arduous without a solid foundation.
In this way you will KNOW that you are unlikely to lose your loans.
Tbh yall I’ve met some dumb ass doctors that definitely should not have been in that field. So if THEY can do it, so can you loves. You’re all okay
I guess that's one way to look at it
Good riddance ..
Where all my stubbornness gone?
that's what you need to figure out ;)
Toxic video
I'm sorry you feel that way, it certainly isn't meant to be. What caused that feeling for you?
