I was in the Ninth Grade this year when all these great albums came out!..i bought most of the ones mentioned and my friends had the ones i didnt...my life's goal was to be a hippie and a musician...i only accomplished the hippie part well, but did play in a few bands in high school and college...greatest times ever!
I love Jimi. But its always kinda sad to me that the rest of the band is so little talked about. Their first album has not only introduced Jimi, but also Noel and Mitch to the wide audience. Love them equally and may they all rest in peace 🧡❤️
I turned 12 in Feb. 1967! What a time for great music! I played many of these albums, especially Hendrix, about 6db below the threshold of pain. At least till my Dad came home from work and yelled, "Turn that shit down!" 🤣🤣
I was a teen in 1967 and it is nostalgic to be reminded of the month-by-month timing of album releases. I can remember many times having a hard time deciding which album to buy next - St. Peppers, Are You Experienced, The Doors, . . . There was so much to choose from.
Whenever I think of "Psychedelic" sound; particularly guitar; I flash back to the first time I heard "Dance the Night Away" (Cream) from the LP, "Disraeli Gears." Eric Clapton's lilting soaring 12-string guitar and hauntingly beautiful vocals took me to a place that no mind-expanding drug ever could -- then or now.
I was 11 in 67. Between my older sister by 2 years; as well as friends, we owned all the LPs mentioned. I remember all the magazine covers from our families, as well. It was an absolutely magical time to be a kid or young adult. Unless of course they happened to have landed in Vietnam and we knew quite a few of those, too. I wish the kids of today could have experienced such a wonderful time in the entertainment world. You’ve done another great job, here. Thanks again;)
Wow that was great - thanks for such a brilliant video! The thing that struck me most was how productive bands were in that era. Some huge names releasing two or even three albums in a year. These days it seems to take bands an age to put out any new stuff. It’s like you can tell it’s a leap year because we have an Olympics and Adele releases a new album - mind you she probably needs the time to find two other people who’ll let her use their fingers to work out what the title should be. Anyway, thanks again for a cool trip down memory lane. 🤘

A top 10 all-time 3 Velvet Underground - Banana album. 4 Are You Experienced - The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Revolutionary. Any other year it would be first. 5 The Doors - The Doors By far their best album. A great one. What a year. 6 Axis: Bold As Love - Jimi Hendrix Experience. Little Wing is fav. The Move join Jimi on You Got Me Floating. 7 The Who Sell Out - The Who This is their best album. I never am impressed with Concept Albums. They can be forced, coerced, compelled, constrained, and obligated to crap. Well not Ziggy Stardust, just generalizing. But I just like the songs on The Who Sell Out. 8 Mr. Fantasy - Traffic 9 Reach Out - 4 Tops 10. Really surprised and disappointed in your focus on Eric Clapton when talking about Cream and Disraeli Gears. The heart of the band was Jack Bruce who largely wrote the songs and sang the leads. Relatively speaking, Clapton was the band’s guitarist. It’s well documented that Bruce was directed to take a back seat to Clapton who the record company felt would present a better image from a marketing perspective. Justifiably, Bruce never got over this.

Turned 11 in July of 1967 and remember my mother letting me skip school to go with her hairdresser to Sears to see Leonard Nimoy signing his album, and yes it was pretty bad.
Always a great presentation and for me at least, since I was 13 years old back then, a nice trip back down memory lane. Yeah...I'm older than dirt.....;0)
Thanks, GH. That was great. Appreciate a bit of historical context, too. What strikes me about music from this era is that it is the first time popular music really becomes timeless. Most pop music from the early ‘60’s and prior very much sounds “of its era” and frankly dated. In contrast, many of the albums from this year would still be relevant if released today.
Maaaannn, we can't isolate just 1 year. IMO, 1957-1986 was the best period of popular music in human history(all genres). But, Especially 67ish-77ish. Funny, Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc... have maintained a multi-generational following ever since the 1950s.
Wasn't "Majesties" accused as being a "Peppers' cover art/concept ripoff (both released 1967 coincidence)? If not correct me---it was really obvious at the time,please. Bonzo Dog Band put out "Matching Tie & Handkerchief" sometime with actually 2 grooves cut into 1 side of the album. You'd drop the needle and it would have 2 possible grooves to catch. First time I thought I was drunk. Thank God I was.What a trick I'd play on my friends. I also didn't realize 3 of my fav 25 albums of all time were from 1967. Bowie's first( then called "Images 66'-68' "(dance hall style but incredibly musically diverse---in an extremely talented way) and the "The Doors" debut and "Strange Days." "When The Music's Over"---wow---and "The End"---the only filter was the editor. If I had 26 albums to choose, for all-time, I'd add Bowie's "Space Oddity". Your intro was cool and inviting---but the cultural,non-musical references were a little long and sometimes irrelevant. Constructive criticism for a great content creator that always keeps me comin' back. In a nutshell---super stuff! Peace & love!
Great retrospective of 1967's landmark LP's. One correction : The photo of Spanky and Our Gang's album cover was actually their third album , not their first.
Mostly excellent survey! However, I must point out two errors: (1) The Spanky and our Gang cover you display is their THIRD LP, not their first; and (2) Jim Morrison was busted in New Haven for heckling the police, after he had been maced backstage before the show, He was indicted for indecent exposure (allegedly} during the infamous Miami show on March 1, 1969.
Glad to see the love for Strange Days by the Doors! Imo, this is their best album. And the video of the title track is really good. Also glad to see Axis: Bold As Love get mentioned. It was the first album I had be the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and while I think Electric Ladyland was the band's best, Axis stands up well on it's own. Jimi was very talented but one aspect of his talent that I think gets overlooked is his lyrics. To me, Axis was the pinnacle of Jimi as a lyricist. Jimi is arguably the best rock guitarist ever, but Mitch Mitchell was excellent on drums and bassist Noel Redding was also very talented. They worked together REALLY well. But how can you mention Neil Innes and Monty Python without mentioning the biggest band of the 60s the Rutles? Who can forget their Sgt. Rutter's Only Dart Club Band and Tragical History Tour as well as hits like Piggy in the Middle and All You Need is Lunch?

I hit puberty, decided I was going to move to California and live in a commune.I did too after high school. I drove my Pinto till the engine blew up in AZ. In 1973. Found a place called Wheelers Ranch above San Fransisco . Lasted a few months there that summer, then started College that fall and I’m still here 50 years later.California turned out to be everything I hope it would be at 13 in 1967, only too crowded now.
Great video, congratulations on your research. I have to mention Love - Forever Changes (November 1967)which is often credited as one of, if not the greatest psychedelic album of all time.
In 1967 rock'n'roll became rock and wasn't just background music to dance to, but something people would sit down and actively listen to. The lyrics became more socially conscious, cerebral and poetic, as the actual music was more eclectic & complex. Then, people writing songs weren't just trying to sell shlock to the masses. There was a genuinely a great spirit behind it all that I wish would come back.
67 was a great year. Sgt. Pepper, Are you Experienced, Magical Mystery Tour, Axis Bold as Love, Surrealistic Pillow. And the Hits - Light My Fire, The Letter, Happy Together, Kind of a Drag, Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie, Soul Man, Ruby Tuesday, Higher and Higher, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Gimme Some Lovin, Brown Eyed Girl, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Somebody to Love, I Can See for Miles... One of the best years ever.
This was great ! I was 10 then so while i was aware of everything, since i was the youngest of 4 kids, i just went along for the ride. I look back now and it's like everything went from black and white to technicolor. What a year !
1967 I started my second combat tour in Vietnam. Went on to a third in 1968. The music of the day kept us going and got us through some very tough times. The music and those tightly rolled little doobies got us though. This music is still in my soul. Simper Fi.

It adds much weight to the mindset of all those artist's and their incredibly creative musiic..1967 was truly explosive in modern music of that time...and Monterey....I was a wee three but I even knew it was explosive. The 1 LP you left Out was Forever Changes by Love which was Released in Nov 1967 Which became 1 of the Top 40 LPs of All Time in Rolling Stone & a Personal Favorite of Mine.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I myself turned 18 in November of 1967 and I right dab right in the middle of the psychedelic musical movement being a musician myself and playing in clubs in the day. Seems I spent most of my time in my junior and senior year in high school having to prevent myself from being killed or kicked out of school for my shoulder length hair that I had to actually go to court and get a court order to not have to cut it for high school because my job was playing music and cutting my hair would have prevented that. Don't forget that anything longer than your hair touching your ears or collar in High School was totally prohibited. Most guys had military type hair cuts back then and me having long hair in Texas put a very large target on my back! These days anything goes but back then in the United States, especially in the mid to late 60s, folks didn't accept long hair on men period, which having it made it literally dangerous to go in public but the girls loved it! Let's say my love life back then was pretty awesome! The reason I'm telling this story is that young men today have the freedom to have long hair or not and can choose to look just about any way you want, please don't take this freedom for granite. We had to go through a lot of crap to finally got this freedom that all the young folks these days take for granite. It was a battle that took years to obtain and there was a high price to pay! I had to go to the hospital more than once for getting beat up for my long locks.

Hearing the Sergeant Pepper album on the 1th of June 1967 on Dutch radio was unforgettable and life-changing. I was 16.

The 1 LP you left Out was Forever Changes by Love which was Released in Nov 1967 Which became 1 of the Top 40 LPs of All Time in Rolling Stone & a Personal Favorite of Mine.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I myself turned 18 in November of 1967 and I right dab right in the middle of the psychedelic musical movement being a musician myself and playing in clubs in the day. Seems I spent most of my time in my junior and senior year in high school having to prevent myself from being killed or kicked out of school for my shoulder length hair that I had to actually go to court and get a court order to not have to cut it for high school because my job was playing music and cutting my hair would have prevented that. Don't forget that anything longer than your hair touching your ears or collar in High School was totally prohibited. Most guys had military type hair cuts back then and me having long hair in Texas put a very large target on my back! These days anything goes but back then in the United States, especially in the mid to late 60s, folks didn't accept long hair on men period, which having it made it literally dangerous to go in public but the girls loved it! Let's say my love life back then was pretty awesome! The reason I'm telling this story is that young men today have the freedom to have long hair or not and can choose to look just about any way you want, please don't take this freedom for granite. We had to go through a lot of crap to finally got this freedom that all the young folks these days take for granite. It was a battle that took years to obtain and there was a high price to pay! I had to go to the hospital more than once for getting beat up for my long locks.
