You better hope this isnt the turning of the tide...next years Michigan team offensively is gonna be way better than this years team. Michigan has some stud wideouts and a great freshmen runningback.
Very true as to what Matt W. said. Matt wouldn't have made the tackles that he did at Ohio State if it weren't for his defensive lineman doing their job. Keeping offensive lineman from getting to Matt allowed him and all the other linebackers to make plays. Just ask Ken Dorsey of Miami.

At Ohio State, Alabama, & Clemson, if you miss out on the playoffs, you failed. That short-list ebs and flows a bit over time, and Clemson may be being replaced by Georgia, and Oklahoma, before Riley left, was almost in that rarified air as well. But, if you are a top 5 program in the country, yes, 10-2 and not making the playoffs, is failure. Success or Failure. It’s binary. No moral victories. Nothing in between. You show up in the final four, your season was a success. If you don’t, you failed.
@@zerodarkthirty703 Let's wait to this weekend because Alabama could be bumped and should be with as a 2 lose team and too many close games against weak teams. Notre Dame and Oklahoma State are much more deserving. Besides this is college and the only true winners are the seniors who get on NFL teams next year. A lot of Buckeyes players will be just fine cashing their multimillion dollar signing bonuses. Ying - Yang. It's all good if it doesn't kill you.
I hope OSU thinks this is just a blip on the radar. Remember, streaks run in cycles. Michigan just got what they have been missing the last 10 years against OSU...CONFIDENCE. Quick question, Did Whilhelm have NFL success. Can't seem to find him.
I have to agree with Marlon. The Buckeyes' defense has to mirror the attitude of its head coach. You can't be the aggressor offensively and passive on defense. The DC also has to call timely defensive stunts and blitzes. I never felt like our defense has outsmarted offense all year, especially in the second half of games. That was evident when team would score on us in the second half all year. You can't castrate your athletes and expect them just make plays.
Disgusting how we played this past weekend. With that being said. This is a very young team interesting to see where we go from here. Win lose or draw I will always represent The Ohio State University. Go bucks Sliver bullets get back on 🔥🔥 offense stay on schedule. Buckeyes against the 🌍 🌎.
“Slip away”… they never had it. They were absolutely dominated and Michigan didn’t even need to play a perfect game. Thank god Ronnie Bell wasn’t even playing, it probably would have been worse.
Nah. The first half was close and Michigan had got every bounce to go their way. The second half was when the defense just sh** the bed and the offense couldn't keep up without a run game (thanks to tackles playing guard). The OSU roster is leaps and bounds better than Michigans so next year will be different

Looking at the results of the five B10 common opponents between the Buckeyes and TTUN (Rutgers, Nebraska, PSU, Indiana, MSU), the Buckeyes won more convincingly in every case (emphatically so for MSU). TTUN had to come from behind late in the games against Nebraska and PSU, and they lost to MSU. Given those outcomes, I am dumbfounded by what happened in Ann Arbor. Even if there were some defensive and offensive scheme issues by the Buckeyes, that doesn't explain the total domination. It looked like the Buckeyes were shell-shocked while the TTUN simply wanted it far more. Was the perfect storm.
Precisely! This game was won by the team that wanted it more and was more determined to win. So, it looks like team preparedness and motivation. It is not a recruiting or personnel issue. We have the personnel. Our players are higher ranked across the board. It reminds me of our win over Miami in the 2002 National Championship. They were the more talented team, but OSU WANTED it more and played our game. Voila! Go Bicks!
Previous games and common opponents don't matter. It's about who performs on the field during The Game. Analytics doesn't win games, players and coaches do.
It's a failed season even if you our 10 - 2 because everything was on the line . Big 10 champion 🏆 and possibly a national championship game . And will never have the offensive receivers that we had this year ever a gain
Ohio St world is going to lose their minds if they lose at home next year...lol...then it's back to back and going back to Ann Arbor...and the pressure REALLY builds:) Given THAT...the pressure is obviously already here for Ohio St...lol
Damn, you people are soft. One loss and you need to see a psychiatrist . Michigan lost 10 in a row and got killed the last two times. This is sports. You win some and you lose some.
You have no memory my man. For 5 straight years Harbaugh was strongly criticized for those teams and he made changes that paid off. Ryan Day saw the same game all Buckeyes saw. A team that didn't just come up short on the scoreboard, but got beat on the LOS. That indicates no heart. No heart to block. No heart to occupy the A gap and tackle. Just watching Haskins drag guys down the field time after time. Is he a Heisman candidate? Should be after this game.
Crikey! A very very very young team had a very very very bad day. I played only high school football, but I remember that some days things just fall the wrong way. OSU had a sick QB and a blizzard and a thousand small things adding up to a nasty loss. Nine out of ten games OSU wins. One freak day and one loss does not mean we have to burn down the stadium and all those in a 100 mile radius.
We have had a problem with the defense since two years ago against Clemson our defense needs major repair they need to get a great defenseive cordnator
That's the thing: The last two Clemson games we were definitely very physical with much of the same personnel. The physicality is there, the need to figure out why they couldn't find it in themselves last Saturday or this entire season. Peach Bowl vs. Alabama if they get murdered b by Georgia? Or will they get the Sugar-tie in?
2 years in a row the defense/defensive staff have cost OSU a Natty, '20 season was a wash from covid but we got the same results this year and it never once improved. The answer to the defense isn't on staff, he better go get a DC and change things around real fast, lose to scUM 2 years in a row and you will lose the fanbase. We're OSU for f*cks sake, we should be able to hand pick 95% of the DC's in America, NFL or NCAA. This is a premier spot, top 3 program.
I'll take a shot at the Natty anyday....I laughed my ass off when Matt said he's glad OSU is going to the Rose Bowl rather than getting their ass handed to them again by Bama or Georgia in the playoff....Michigan is in the playoff with a chance to win it all and any self-respecting Buckeye should wish they could be there too....when your goal is to compete for the Natty the Rose Bowl. is just a consolation prize..and Day should have used the word embarassed because that "blind squirrel" kicked his team's ass in every facet of the game....not facing reality ain't going to fix what's broke but whatever floats your boat

Losing Olave and Wilson is a blow, no question. The silver lining though is you get some young guys who are supremely talented back. The OL loses guys but I have never been sold on the idea that Studwara is the best OL coach OSU can have. The defensive staff needs to be looked at and changes were likely to happen had we won. The way we lost makes it clear that there needs to be a deep and complete review and changes need to be installed.
*uck that silver bullet shit it never worked, to stop the run play a 4-4-3 defense load the box, they weren't a deep pass threat their tight ends did the most damage, we knew this going into the game. But nobody changed the scheme, we need a great DC because Ryan Day is an offensive minded head coach, somebody like Monte Kiffin, was for Tampa Bay back in the day.
We had no O line or D line show up for this game 😤 and the problem was still there like in week 2 against Oregon Ryyn Day you need new coaches go get offinceive cordnator and defenseive cordnator from the NFL AND MONEY SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM TO GO AND GET THEM
I love Washington but he has to go. When Mattison left TTUN there LBs where awful under Washington. When Mattison retired from OSU the LBs where lost, confused filling wrong gaps double filling gaps ect thats on Washington......
As a Michigan fan I must say my respect for Buckeye fans and analysts (at least those on RUclips) has increased greatly after this game. They've almost all taken it in stride, given U of M credit and look to the future to win next year. Obviously I'd love to see a return to the John Cooper era of this rivalry where Michigan was dominant, but I think a new 10 Year War environment would be awesome for this rivalry where the games are pretty much split evenly. It would be great for both schools I think and for the Big Ten as a whole. I do hate OSU but at least they're in the Big Ten; that's sort of why I've always hated Notre Dame (those arrogant pricks) more. Anyway, watch out for Utah, I watched the two games of theirs against Oregon and they look legit and they're peaking. Dear god, did I just in a round about way express that I want OSU to win the Rose Bowl?! I think I did. And I will admit I was actually rooting (and kind of getting into it during the game) for OSU vs Miami in the title game in the 2002/2003 season and when they beat Arizona St in the Rose Bowl after the '96 season. As I say to my dad, "The Buckeyes maybe bastards (sorry) but they're Big Ten bastards, not arrogant independent shamrock bastards."
A HEALTHY offensive line should have been Miller at center, Munford at LT, Paris at RG, Matt Jones at LG and NPF at right tackle. Munford is not a guard, and D. Jones was not a right tackle. Too soft and slow ... Wypler filled in at center pretty solid, esp. for a redshirt freshman. Donovan Jackson will be a starter next year, and NPF just lost his opportunity to get drafted in the first three rounds, minimum, based on last Saturday. He will be back in '22. The video showing Munford literally getting road-graded by "Aids" Hutchinson was startling. For a redshirt freshman, Stroud was incredible under those circumstances. D-linemen have to get much bigger, 300-plus pounds in the middle, and OSU needs some man-child, physical, fast, beasts at LB. They are out there...
The problem on defense for the Buckeyes is certainly not a 1 yr fix. The same issues against Michigan may very well show themselves in next years game. This could get out of hand for Day!
For whatever reason they couldn’t find any consistency this year. Especially with the running game. And the way they called the running game. I hate to dog on the freshman running back but if he didn’t hit at 80 yard home run he wasn’t consistently getting the little yards that we needed to make first downs
Of course the games we struggled in and lost we couldn’t get pressure on the quarterback nor provide our own protection and running attack with our offensive line
We did not win LOS on both sides of the ball. That says it all. The name of "Jon Heacock" was mentioned. He is the brother of Jim, who was D.C. at OSU for so long under Tressel. He is over 60, which may be an issue. Anyway, we need brilliant minds now on the defensive staff plus beasts for players. BTW: I like Matt's comment about the blind squirrel getting a nut sometimes. Some coaches win one rivalry game and they think they have channeled Woody Hayes!
Michigan plays a 3-4 so they have 3 defensive tackles (DT), whereas we play a 4-3 or a 4-2 with only 2 DTs. So in our scheme the DTs have to be better players (having only 2 guys instead of 3). It's also easier for Michigan to stop the run up front and bring pressure since they use a 5 man front, whereas we try to do the same with only 4.
That's not exactly how that works. A 3-4 and a 4-3 puts the same amount of defenders in the box when in their base sets. Both defenses have the same amount of guys in the box. Go back and look at Michigans alignment compared to OSU's... They're essentially the same thing
@@dilldowschwagginz2674 same numbers yes. But in a 3-4 that "7th man" is a DT, whereas in a 4-3 it's a LB (or in Ohio State's case it's a S in Ronnie Hickman). It's obvious that a 3-4 is better equipped to get in the gaps, disrupt the offensive blocking and attack the opposing teams center, because there's 5 men on the line as opposed to 4. Also, in a 4-3, you allow teams to combo block your DTs, if that's what they want to do, hoping the LBs shoot the gaps and make plays. There's no guaranteed one-on-one matchup. Unfortunately, for Ohio State the LB play right now is not good enough, it's not physical and it's not fast and they don't blitz enough.
Matt, Alabama looked like total butt vs auburn. Let's not glorify their pathetic performance against a barely bowl eligible team. That old school defense worked at times but look what Urban's Florida did to it in the title game... That was far more embarrassing than what happened last Saturday. Let's keep it real
Why cant our defense just adapt to the style they are playing against. Why are you playing 2 linebackers and a safety in the box? Makes no sense. I could have coached a better game
move on from it .... a loss is a loss, fix it or re live it. Spring will work on the run game with Henderson, acclimate the new WR crew start JTT and Sawyer on the ends, CJ Hicks and Gabe Powers coming in. this will be a more complete team next year
How come Ryan Day and Co. recruit excellent QBs and Wide Receivers but for 3 years now could not recruit excellent Defensive Backs, Safeties, Linebackers, Edge Rushers, and reliable OLs?!!! Why can't they coach up their current Offensive and Defensive players?! If they lack talent on Defense, why can't they use the Transfer Portal to get some badly needed Defensive players?!
I believe we need our old defense ways tough mostly a 4-3 defense unless it's a passing team then maybe a 3-4 but either way our defense use to be our thing Our strength and I'd like to see that more Ohio State old ways playing defense the silver bullets as they would say let's show Xichigan next year who we truly are build our defense to win games just with our defense let alone our powerful offense they are young and I can't wait to see what they do next year I can't wait OH

Ryan Day and his crew lost 3 critical games during the past 12 months; first humiliated by Alabama in the National Championship game in January, then unexpectedly lost to an undermanned Oregon at home in September, and now lost to Michigan on the road. That is 3 MAJOR losses in 12 months. That is in effect twice losing a chance to win a National Championship, losing a chance to win a 5th Conference Championship, and perhaps robbing his QB CJ Stroud of a chance to win a Heisman trophy. I am saying, poor coaching has been the major problem for the Buckeyes team this season, since the bad loss to Alabama in the National Championship game

This will happen again next season if the run game is one dimensional and the Defense is ignored by another pass happy offensive guru.
If you watched his press conferences Day knows all about the rivalry and is fully committed to beating TTUN. I agree that the play calling was horrible, but also keep in mind that the team is very young. Our defense was exposed BIG TIME, because of the talent level of our competitors we were able to hide our weaknesses. TTUN wanted it more and they exposed every weakness we have. CJ is very young and his nerves got the best of him. Defensive play calling and coaching is horrible, but firing the DC mid season only hurts the team. Day did everything he could with the coaching talent he had. Guarantee it’ll be a new staff next season and our boys will be on a mission. Just my personal opinion
We just have to admit bottom line we screwed the pooch! TUN had a better game plan and were laying in wait for us. We can only pray that this is an upset weekend coming with the main one being Iowa beating TUN. Wishful thinking but maybe the committee would consider one or two of the 2 loss teams in the playoffs.

Any chance Day goes to NFL (Chicago) and Fickle comes back to OSU? Am I wrong thinking that Larry Johnson got passed over at PSU when Franklin came, and now when Day used dumb and dumber as our D coordinator's and he passed over Larry Johnson?
You better hope this isnt the turning of the tide...next years Michigan team offensively is gonna be way better than this years team. Michigan has some stud wideouts and a great freshmen runningback.
Stopping the run has been a problem starting with the Minnesota game
Smh the whole world can see how we lost, except our coaching staff they did nothing to stop the bleeding and we bled to death on the field.
They Game never got away from the Buckeyes,,, they got out coached and got their asses kicked for 60 minutes!!!!!
Stop the penaltys at bad times. Ttun wanted it more. This is a problem with recruiting nationaly they don't have the passion for the game.
Exactly why Larry Johnson needs to retire
@@michaelholley1361 Larry Johnson can not teach effort! If the guys don't want it more then the o-lineman that are blocking them then they get pushed out of the way, which is what happened! Bad, just BAD!
@Buckguy 1 isn't the scheme on the coaches? I'd rather not watch that game ever again either.

2 lows this season. Oregon and Michigan. Hard for me to see 10-2 as a failure.
Lost the two hardest games. That's failing.

That short-list ebs and flows a bit over time, and Clemson may be being replaced by Georgia, and Oklahoma, before Riley left, was almost in that rarified air as well.
But, if you are a top 5 program in the country, yes, 10-2 and not making the playoffs, is failure.

Marlon Kerner was an outstanding kick blocker. He was very fast off the edge and he had great timing. I remember the FG he blocked against Wisconsin in 1993 to preserve that tie.

Michigan played Nebraska and PSU on the road; y'all got em at home. Same reason why comparing Maryland and PSU this past year was silly

Ohio St world is going to lose their minds if they lose at home next year...lol...then it's back to back and going back to Ann Arbor...and the pressure REALLY builds:) Given THAT...the pressure is obviously already here for Ohio St...lol
They need to embrace the pressure and use it as fuel. Thank you for the idea.

As a Michigan fan, I wish we had a Colonel Sanders to do a podcast for us.
Michigan 🏈 fans ❤️ fry buckeyes
So Kelly goes to LSU, does Freeman go with him? Or. Is he available?
The problem on defense for the Buckeyes is certainly not a 1 yr fix. The same issues against Michigan may very well show themselves in next years game. This could get out of hand for Day!
Why no Tyleke Williams?
What did they look like against Georgia?
Why cant our defense just adapt to the style they are playing against. Why are you playing 2 linebackers and a safety in the box? Makes no sense. I could have coached a better game
@Cassidy Johnson lmao that's pretty funny. Most consistent and winningest program the last 50 years.
move on from it .... a loss is a loss, fix it or re live it.

A lot of false bravado and phony enthusiasm was easy to see. Xichigan outcoached Ohio St and pushed them around and called them soft. A finesse team will not win the championship this year or any other. A team with toughness and a dog level Defense will win it all. This will happen again next season if the run game is one dimensional and the Defense is ignored by another pass happy offensive guru.
But Day was under Meyer, who lived this rivalry. I think Day is well aware of this means. And I think Day is sick over this just like we are
@@lindzbreezyoh Exactly
agree on that latter oart. totally disagree on that former part. what ages ate you living in?!
