- Its like music to my ears . Aviation lovers will understand me ! This Old Boeing 727 produced one of the best Jet noises during landing. Spectators at Farnborough airshow 2018 were shocked ! The Beast from Oil Spill response switched on her powerful reverse thrust after touching down and creates beautiful sound .

Gave the struts a right workout.
From a retired 727 pilot:
Those target type reversers would really stop the old sled. You could back it up, or back out of a gate with them. And we used to do that when JetA was cheap.
The best part of this video is the touchdown. All tail engined planes have the same problem, from a RJ to a MD11. The main gear has to be WAY back behind the wing so it can’t set on its butt on the ground.
Watch carefully… you will see the flare start late. The nose sorta goes up, but the main gear REALLY goes down which increases the downward vector of the gear into the pavement. This results in a KFB landing.
KFB is a commonly used term used by airline pilots, KA FUCKING BOOM !!!
The most common adage for the B727 was, “below 50’ AGL, there is just one more passenger” - the pilot.
I saw a '27 using the thrust reversers to back out of a gate once without having to be pushed back by ground equipment. I didn't know they ever did that at a U.S. airport before I saw it. It worked well enough. I think it was at TUL.
Is that a super 27? Was looking at the side engines.
From an ATPL Student to a retired 727 Pilot, man, I wish I was born 20 years earlier. Probably won`t get the chance to fly one of these anymore. Much respect for you Sir. I really admire the "old" guys that flew beasts like this. In times where the Control Columns were connected to the control surfaces via cable pulley systems. Good old days.
I was on board for one of those back outs it’s spooky because it goes forward a little bit first.
My Husband as a little kid was in the cockpit of one of theses a few times along with a 707.In the 60s the Stewardess would take you up there.Captains used too walk through and greet you even have a cup of coffee and a smoke while taking to Passengers.
Love that characteristic whine. Like watching a 1960s movie with actual production sound.
Yes, personality like the Vulcans that you can id a long way off...
Superb Media Content Creator: Yes, very much like that. I have to defer to the videos on YT for for what the Vulcan sounds like as I only saw one on static display at McGuire AFB in the '60s at an airshow which my father had taken me to see. Did get to watch a Harrier 'Jump Jet' (as it was billed at that show) in action that time. Dad and I saw/heard many 727s at Philly International and JFK. I remember the "Yellow Bird" markings on the Northeast Airlines aircraft.
Most of the airliners I flew in back in the 70s and 80s were 727s, absolutely beautiful airplane!😀
What a beast. I will always love the 727. Those sweet JT8D engines give me goosebumps.
I was an aircraft fueler in the early 1990's at Philadelphia International Airport. Fueled B727's for
Northwest, Delta, American, DHL, and FedEx. These planes loved to burn loads of fuel and use good lengths of runway on takeoff especially during summer in a 100 degree heat wave. Pretty fast bird
along with noise as and exhaust smoke trail.
Yes Sir had lots of them at SJC in the late 80's. I was contracted out to Delta, TWA, Alaska, and old Emery Worldwide. Those and the Old MD-80's with the same JT8D engines were everywhere.....
Flew on a repurchased Pan Am 727 from Sanford to a Midwest regional airport in 2001. Was blown away by the takeoff power. The pilot described it perfectly...
The Corvette of the sky.
Great video! The 727 will always be my favourite plane of all time. I really miss flying on them. They were loud and proud!
I love the noise from them
Who ever invented the reverse thrust is a genius
Name of the reverse thrust: target reverse thrust
Planes who use it: Embraer 145XR, GLF4 , GLF5, Fokker 100, 727-200, Learjet 45, Cessna 550 citation
(More planes unless they guess more aircrafts.)
This same plane is currently my wallpaper. I really love the 727.
Oh, thank you very much, I would love it!
It's not easy to find pics of a Boeing 727 in high resolution. Since this G-OSRA has been displayed in Farnborough I got a few good ones, but indeed, I would love to have a few more. Do you want me my email address?
Sweet old, loud, Kerosene guzzler! Bought back memories flying on 727's between PIT and San Diego on USAir back in the 80's,,,
I loved that airplane. I was in the foreign service in the 70's and 80's and everywhere I went there was a 727. A true workhorse around the world.
Still the most beautiful airplane ever built!
like more the Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle...(and the nose from the Caravelle is a heritage from the Dehavilland Comet)
There holer was a great first airplane for many pilots.
Back when you had to fly sideways as F/E before upgrading.
Early 70's, dad would load us in the Pontiac station wagon and head out to Weir Cook (Indianapolis International) and we would sit for hours watching 727s, DC9s, 707s take off. I loved listening to the whine of the 727 engines, then the thunder as the applied take off power.
My favorite airliner when I was flying TWA.
Robert Cieslak keep it under .85 much, lol
Teedub was a great airline.
Northwest 747 400 .
Back in the sixties we used to ride in the PSA 727s, San Jose to San Diego round trip, for $77.00. I really liked those planes; first jet plane ride I had ever taken. We often boarded by the drop down stairs between the engines in the tail. Magical.
Yes PSA had a price war going on with TWA back then where it was $66.00 from LA too SF.
I probably loaded you up in SJC. I loved PSA and then US Air bought us out.
@@kevinbraden798 Thank you (50 years later).
DB Cooper loved those drop down stairs too. This was my favorite A/C in the 70s.
@@johns4655 Was that case ever really solved?
I remember watching the DHL 727 coming into land in Barbados, and the noise from the thirst reversers was deafening!!!
Flew on many 727s back in the day and you really felt when they threw those thrust reversers in!
Such a sexy jet. The paint scheme looked awesome
Just a beautiful aircraft from the past.
Just about every flight I was on in the 70's, was a 727.
That landing was really hard! Lovely JT8D's-- Classic engines making awesome noise :)
Canadian Plane Spotter the plane didn't feel a thing. tougher than Nunavut ice!
It was a firm landing on a short runway, not a hard landing.
First flight ever for me was a 727 in 1975. I was served a steak dinner in economy on a 1 hour flight.
*_The sound coming from these engines are a beautiful melody! Nice footage! Congratulations!_*
*_This aircraft markable my childhood!_*
727 when you see it
I miss this sound.
I remember when I was a kid back in the 1970s, Eastern Airlines 727s had the word Whisperjet on the tail. But they were the so loud!
Dave Tello Probably dubbed “Whisperjet” because if you were lucky enough to be located in the front half of the fuselage, you didn’t hear as much noise during the cruise regime of the flight, as the engines were right at the back of the airliner. For passengers at the back though, it was certainly deafening. I’ve had that “pleasure” on the TU-154 - I was once seated literally by the rear engines. Fortunately, they WERE music to my ears too!
@@datathunderstorm oh I remember. I flew on several 727s and DC-9s with my family when I was a kid. I just think the irony of Whisperjet is amusing. Especially compared to the jets of today. Back then the new "Jumbo Jets" were even quieter.
I think they were called whisper jets because they were using the then new bypass turbofan jt8d as to the older straight pipe jt3d at the time.
Hard to tell, but that looked like a flap 40 landing. Gorgeous plane.
Miss those loud engines. I'm only old enough to have seen these operating for UPS and Fed Ex... wish I was old enough to experience them pre-hush kit days
I saw this gal go over our house on her way into Farnborough earlier this year, was a truly fantastic sight. I've flown on a 727 when I was a child to Cyprus, a great experience.
I think that the shocks are more shocked then the spectators ;-)
Only flew the 727 once, around Christmas in the late 90s (maybe 98). I still remember the Christmas tinsel strung on the bulkheads - and the gently whirring fuel flow meters on the engineer's panel! The yokes moved by themselves on autopilot which fascinated me. Can't remember the airline
I love the old trijet planes
mis palabras no son suficientes para expresar la adrenalina que me produce esos sonidos
I love the B727s and the classic JT8Ds - they were loud and meant business.
727's has to be the most wonderfull airplane designed
Boeing 707 y 727, the best and most great planes made.... never will be repeated.
Bounced landing.
Old style reverse buckets.
0:59 What a beautiful sound, jets never cease to make me feel excited.
Im agree with you
They got that one stopped fast. Not a lot of runway there but that's why they designed a 727.
Rookie pilot, that was pretty hard landing and bounce
I grew up next to London Heathrow Airport and didn’t think twice about aircraft noise until I started working airside. The only aircraft that made you look up and take notice was Concorde. Such a beautiful aircraft. I was fortunate to fly to Edinburgh on BAC 1-11 and also Trident 3’s as well as old B737’s...glorious !
My all time favorite airliner!
Except that it's jet noise is beautiful, she is one of the best airplane ever ... but I already wrote it before. Thanks TF , for sharing.
727 is a quiet a/c ...... those JT8’s without a hush kit are brutal.
Holy shit I’m 16 but I love the 727 my father used to fly one.
The last three tiny airplanes will rule the world, I feel that deep inside.
It would be nosier on take off.
You should hear a BAC 111 on take off. Makes a distinctive sound as it comes nearer and a thunderous roar as it flies overhead. You can hear it long after it passes. We used to live just southeast of the airport in Manila and as a kid I loved that sound.
Used to get 111's in at Southend all the time when i was little, the Spey engines used to make a right noise :)
When I lived in Lagos, Nigeria, in the late 70s / early 80s, there was a small local budget airline (Okada?) who used to fly BAC-111s on domestic routes out of Murtala Mohammed Airport every day. Despite living about 12 miles from the airport (as the crow flies), you could literally hear those Rolls Royce Speys at full thrust, propelling the BAC-111s down the runway and into the air. They used to come screaming directly over my house too....and yes, they only got louder and louder on approach until they screamed overhead like a Banshee - before rumbling away into the distance. Often, you could still hear the rumble of those twin Speys as long as 5 minutes after it had screamed overhead. Sounded like rolling thunder in the distance. And don’t get me started on the thin trail of exhaust those engines left behind too!
I remember when i was at school and a 111 took off right in the middle of one of the teachers telling us off, i was trying not to laugh listening to the teacher rasing his voice trying to be heard over the 111's Spey's xD
I grew up about 10 mi northwest of EMA and without seeing it you could always tell when one of British Midland's 1-11s departed on Rwy 09. Their 707 produced a similar effect. For pure sound though, you need to go military: I've never heard anything louder than a Vulcan QRA departure or as dramatic as Lightnings doing QRA departures.
@@joshlawson5436 I remember them at Southend too ,the good old days
Seems like the newer high bypass ratio engines are much quieter than the older torpedo shaped jet engines. I'm no engineer. Last flight was on an older MD-88 and was near the tail where the engines mounted and it was way louder than and newer model plane I've been on. Some of this was due to proximity to engines vs under the wing of course. It was great to drown out the commotion of this family with loud and obnoxious kids.
They call this plane the loudest plane for a reason.
These planes are awesome!
This is such a stylish classic jet...Just listen to those engines roar!
I predict that in 50 years time spectators at an air show will marvel at the noise level of some old B787 or A350 as it comes in for a majestic landing.
Im agree with you . Well said !
I lived very near the departure climb and turn of Midway Airports 31C before noise abatement procedures and laws. Many 727s, DC9s and 737-200s would pass through very loud. Nothing like today.
So enjoyably LOUD after landing! Then the cool turbine sound when taxiing. One of a kind bird!
I miss badass planes.
Would've been loud if it had all 3 original P&W JT8D-15 engines.
Yeah its insanely loud sound because of that powerful reverse thrust
Landing was a bit harsh, but was definitely a great demonstration of the strength and durability of such a beautiful, legendary aircraft.
Ain’t nothing like that sound
I don't think there is a hush kit on that old 727. Sure brings back memories.
My first commercial flight was on a 727 in June of 1985 while headed to Basic Training in South Carolina. CVG to ATL to Columbia. I remember the engines being extremely loud during takeoff. Piedmont Airlines.
Is the pilot a Ryanair guy? That landing was a bit rough.
That reverse thrust power is epic
I love the reverse thrust on those JT8D engines!!!
An absolute beauty!!!
My favorite aircraft of all time... thanks for the show... I remember the thrill of being aboard one as they backed it out on the reversers one time... it is missed...
I don't know about the noise but a great approach to finals.
Can only be a 72😍.
That was the sexiest hard and bounce landing ever! Beautiful and awesome plane! Nice catch.
Nice good old thrust reversers :)
:)
The Bread was too buttery so it bounced.
I was hoping for a T&G!
Jeffrey J you would get one if this was 1978.
Fantastic short field performance. 727-100 was built for this. -200maybe
those old 727s were louder than Hell. during Santa Ana winds in the 1960s, these beasts would end up taking off over my house near Lockheed Airport and rattling the windows.
Clam shell thrust reversers, JT8 engines , first aircraft I worked on at American Airlines.......
I forgot about those old "cartoon like" thrust reversers... LOL
I actually saw that exact plane with that oil company livery on an airfield tour. It was in their main hangar. Later they took it out for an engine test (didn't get to see that part sadly), but we couldn't take pictures of the plane for some privacy reasons.
Awesome sound.I so miss these Tri-Jets
I miss these planes. Used to go to a lookout at seatac to watch them land.
Fantastic footage and jet engine sound !
When Concorde took off from Heathrow, it would be followed by the symphony of umpteen car alarms going off in the car park, because of the noise and vibration...!
Just a magnificent airplane
It's a great disappointment to me that I never got to fly in a 727, but at least I managed to get a good look inside that very aircraft at Farnborough and have a chat with the crew. Nice guys. Had a good laugh about chemtrails too!
TopFelya Just joking about how nonsensical it all is. They said they got some 'Chemtrail Pilot' caps made as a joke, but they're not allowed to wear them in public (too many nutcases around).
What a Impressive Landing....
Keep Up Mate 😀😀
Thanks, will do!
Chuck Finley, they are loud yes. But they aren't that noisy... I've been around many 727s growing up... They are no louder than the more modern commercial aircraft today.. .
Guess the bumpy landing was more shocking than the sound xD
Jesus Christ how did people in the airports back then cope with all the noise
old but gold
Super 27. Lovely bird.
Great jet sound!
WOW awesome engine music!!
Best sounding ever cant beet it
Well said mate !
Since most commercial jets now use high bypass turbofans their jet thrust noise is insulated by the fan thrust. Stand behind one of them and then compare the noise of an 80,000 lbf engine to a 20,000 lbf older engine.
My last assignment working security at Hartsfield international back in the 90s I was part of the security detail assigned to NWA Atlanta Technical operations center the maintenance base for 727, DC 9. The last part of the shift you were assigned to the East Gate entry control point close to the ramp where final engine testing was done prior to return of service until you got used to it there was nothing more unnerving then sitting in a prefab building at the gate and watch it start to vibrate during the engine test 34000 lb of thrust up close and personal is a lot of noise even with ear protection those were the days I miss them even now
Two landings for the price of one.
Jet noise?? Old aircraft flightline mechanic say, "Ugh! Jet Noise Good!" Reverse thrusters at full throttle.
Nice landing Foster Brooks ...
Absolutely perfect!
I love this Boeing model too ! Thank you for watching mate
Love the B727
Amazing!!
@@topfelya you welcome, thanks for upload this material.
It looks as if engines No. 1 and 3 are replaced by JT8D-200 (known from the MD-80).
