Its cool that you have sections for each song, makes it easy to digest. The Last Barron is one of the best songs i've ever heard.

I always interpreted the fact that the protagonist explained to rasputin that he’s going to die because he was from the future. And because of that that’s how he knew the escape was gonna end in his death

It was totally sweet when you became a little emotional while summarizing the album at the end of the video. I'm sure if anyone who had anything to do with the making of this album were to see your understanding of it and then your response to it would be absolutely astonished.

I just a big sap lol:) Thank you though. Every member of Mastodon has suffered tragedies and I think it's definitely a part of what makes their music so incredible.

Take this with a grain of salt cause I can´t find the interview, but somewhere is the explanation behind Karelia. From what I can remember it was inspired by them visiting a church in Karelia and heard the local legend about a ghost that resided there.
    "Wrathful ones nine eyes gaze
    Holding skulls
    Filled and laced
    With human blood"
These were all descriptions of the ghost and it´s way of murdering people if I´m not mistaken. Will try to dig up the interview and provide a link :)

The Last Baron is one of my favourite Mastadon songs. It was cool to see the whole story and context explained.
Without looking into it, or any of the story of the album, my interpretation was that it was about some being whose role was to decide whether the world should be saved or destroyed. And this being had to go on a journey throughout the world over several years to properly judge us and make a decision.

It’s one of my all time favorites too. I love your interpretation! I’ll have to listen to it with that idea in mind.

Dude! Fellow ex-Southern Oregonian and huge Mastodon head here. I found your concept album vids referenced from @ThePunkRockMBA and I am digging the hell out of them! I love boring my friends to death talking about Mastodon's concept albums, so it's really fantastic to see some at-length interpretations with researched insights. Leviathan is my favorite overall Mastodon album, but the amount of genuine personal reflection and grief in Crack the Skye, and the tie-ins from Russian history/mysticism, puts it in a category all of its own. I learned so much from this video. Very excited to queue up the Emperor of Sand Explained next, then it's on to Opeth...

Hello fellow Oregonian!! Nice to meet someone else from the Pacific Northwest.
Many thinks to Finn for sending people here! Mastodon concepts are some of my favorite storylines as they always tie in the raw emotion of their personal experience to each album.
      Enjoy the Opeth videos!

@@JJMetalhead One of my favorite pieces of Mastodon trivia is that in 2004 they played a live show at the record store in Medford that got almost every spare cent I had in high school, Musichead. I hadn't lived there since 1999 and didn't even find out about this until years after it happened, but I can't imagine just how amazing it would have been to see a Remission/Leviathan era live set in such a tiny venue, and in Medford of all places?!?

@@Flaatbed No way! That's amazing. It would have been great to see. I love how wholesome all the guys in Mastodon are.

Love this break down, but "Crack the Skye song" is for Brann's Sister. We all know it. "Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one, Her Spirit's too strong" I asked him, it's mostly about his sister.

  • @MrGrim-ib4ix

Is it he? They say "her" in the title track don't they?

    • @JJMetalhead
      @JJMetalhead  3 года назад +2

It depends on how you look at it. I think the “her” in the title track refers to Skye which was Dailor’s sister. Skye is not necessarily the protagonist of the story, though if you want to think of it as told from her perspective you can.
