Good video great points... got my grainfather last week and brewed my first batch (Citra DIPA at est 1.070 at 17.5 lbs or 7.9 kg grain) and only hit 1.065 and my efficiency was 66%... hence why I have been reading and found your videos. Probably should have started with a more reasonable beer but WTH... I think your videos will help and again I agree with you on why I care, its more to hit my numbers than anything as an extra pound of grain is nothing to fret over typically.

Timothy Shipley Hi Tim thanks for the comment. Yes that's quite a big grain bill so being just 5 points off your OG is pretty good so early in your GF career. As you get your process nailed your brewhouse efficiency will improve from this good start. Once you have a feel for the efficiency you're likely to get with different sized grain bills you can adjust your recipe accordingly.

I did my first "reiterated mash" a few days ago....a bit of a pain, but it's allowed me to develop the large fermenter gravity (> 1.084) without having to pack the grain basket with 18+ lbs of grain. Two 12.5 lb mashes is much easier to deal with!

Thanks Alex I have read about that technique but not tried it yet. Sounds really interesting though - a future video project perhaps!
