What you explain in this video, Madeline, is all that I have experienced in the last five years. Self train with no support with instant accountability with little tolerance.

Oy! What industry are you in?

I am in the private/contract security business. It's commonly very low margin and high volume with atrocious personnel experiences.

I was fortunate enough to work under a boss who saw talent in her employees. When she saw an interest, and when she saw a need, she would present it to that person. For instance, I love to train other employees. She saw my passion for teaching and helping people out. She also saw the need of having a primary preceptor at the clinic. As a result, she made me the primary preceptor for many years until she left. When I was given that responsibility, I not only got to do what I loved, but I also had the opportunity to give new employees a very thorough orientation. However, my boss “made room” for that! It was a win-win 😊
I feel that good leaders will not only see talent and see a need, but will also support that person to make sure that they get what they need.

First two minutes, you covered my biggest problem trying to get a better job. I’ve applied for jobs, where I have at least 60% of their “wish list” but I keep getting declined an interview, or an offer even if I get the interview. Only things I seem able to land are more of the same type of job. It’s depressing.
I’ve been in the physical security industry for over 7 years, and trying to move in to the compliance. I’m good at it, but no one is letting me prove it. ☹️

Wow this is so relatable and even the words you used Madeline "unrealistic expectations" is the exact same thing I said to a company I was interviewing with when they asked why I left my last similar role. Thanks so much for sharing!

Interesting, I got exactly in such role recently. Hope after I finish my study, they'll let me gain experience with new platform.

That was a genius edit 🎉 hiring people but then not helping them .. then cut to “Amazon“ boxes with the voiceover“so they bring in talent..” i feel seen.

The crowd consists mainly of egoistic and selfish animals and zombies (not humans) - independently of age, education, skills and income. When I was leaving a project manager position I had been teaching my successor everything for a month and she adored me.

This is exactly what I was thinking about lately. Where I apply for for an entry level job they ask for 5 years of experience which is ridiculous

Literally got put on a PIP and fired because of a lack of training for the specific company and managers didn’t train me at all. One executive literally told me “you don’t seem to be getting it”

Preach I have the exact same story. It's just awful! They don't want to train or help you get used to the role "they just need you to get on with and get the work done"

I have seen this with other teams. They would hire someone, not train them, and then proceed to use them as a scapegoat for any issue in their group. Disappointing to know that it is so common.

This really helped pull back the curtain on more details of the hiring process with respect to training. It's always a very daunting step for both the candidate and the hiring manager, and now I understand better from the employer's perspective why onboarding is such a nightmare.

Hi ! I was interested in changing roles and going into HR. I discovered very quickly that my experience in several people facing fields and two degrees in psychology rendered me unqualified for most advanced positions. Not sure what to do.
