- The top 10 Star Wars movies of all time shows the timeline of highest grossing Star Wars movies from the year 1977 to 2021. In this video, the list ranks the Star Wars movies by best in grossing using the comparison Bar Chart Race graph. It is a visual representation of data which highlights the top 10 Star Wars movies. Note that the number represents the worldwide Box-office gross in dollars and the list is not adjusted for inflation.
Star Wars is an American epic space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the eponymous 1977 film and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. In 2020, its total value was estimated at US$70 billion, and it is currently the fifth-highest-grossing media franchise of all time.
The original film (Star Wars), retroactively subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), was followed by the sequels Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), forming the original Star Wars trilogy. Lucas later returned to filmmaking to direct a prequel trilogy, consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). In 2012, Lucas sold his production company to Disney, relinquishing his ownership of the franchise. The subsequently produced sequel trilogy consists of Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
All nine films of the "Skywalker saga" were nominated for Academy Awards, with wins going to the first two releases. Together with the theatrical live action "anthology" films Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018), the combined box office revenue of the films equated to over US$10 billion, which makes it the second-highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

You should have made it adjusted for inflation.
Overwise it's just unfair.
Well starwars after 5 years made like 620 million, as most of those dollars were made in 1977, inflation would make it at 2.2 billion. The force awakens made a little over 2 billion between 2015 and 2020. I did not adjust for 2015 inflation but I'm sure it is minimal. Episode IV wins!! (At least in my book 🥳)
And I'm sure ticket prices factor in somehow from like $2-5 to $12 or more today.
To sum up: Adjusting for inflation means A New Hope would be the 2nd highest grossing film of all time making more than endgame but slightly less than Avatar
@@CommunistFBI you know I also think that Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would also be up there among the highest grossing films if it was adjusted for inflation
@@CommunistFBI If you adjusted for inflation, the highest grossing movie of all time is Gone with the Wind
*Unfair?*
Take a seat, young Schipper.
Back in the 70s and 80s, money was worth more, so the OT is probably higher then it says it is #StarWars
It’s adjusted for inflation
@@themanwhowouldbebrick nah
@@themanwhowouldbebrick It says in the description it's not, and it's also obviously not. Go put the revenue from the '77/'78 box office in an inflation adjuster. It made $221m (US domestic only), which is a billion dollars in today's money. That doesn't include the rerelease in '80 or '83, or the '97 SE, or any of the worldwide numbers.

Adjusted for inflation (estimates not including SE release, only 77-85 releases) (average ticket prices also increased since the OT and PT, so sold even more tickets than it appears)
ANH $2.308bn (beats VII, VIII and IX)
ESB $1.363bn (beats VIII and IX)

If you look at the number of tickets. The only movie that out-sold Star Wars A New Hope in the number of tickets was Gone with the wind.
A new hope was a cultural reset. It was in theaters for a year
I’m so glad that even though the clone wars movie sucked and so did the first few seasons of the show they still made more and made one of the best pieces of Star Wars content.
The first “few” seasons (seasons 1 and 2 I assume) did not suck at all. They had individual bad episodes but overall were really really good. What are you on?
Yeah seasons 1 and 2 are underrated. Yes, 3-6 are better but they're really good too
@@thecollector4332 The last time I rewatched TCW, I really had to stay strong during the first two seasons, because they were so boring for the most part. There were individual good episodes but for me that didn't make up for all the boring and straight up bad episodes. Season 3 also had individual boring episodes but was overall good. And seasons 4-7 were good. Not every episode but most episodes were at least good or even great.
But that's why I think that Rebels was overall better. The first season of Rebels had its problems and a few boring episodes but I was still very entertained for the most part. Season 2 was very good with almost nothing I could complain about and seasons 3 and 4 were amazing. I loved every single episode.

Disney did great with the sequels and Rouge one and solo
Despite clone wars started off low, over the years it have evolved into a legendary level series for star wars franchise.
To get this truly accurate you kinda need to factor in how the worth of currency massively changed since the 1970s to the modern day to see which was truly the most popular, but not bad 😁
But in our hearts we know that the sequels should have made less money than the clone wars
Episode 7 wasn't that bad, Episode 7 is good on my opinnion, the shit was that they changed director and made a mess making episode 8 bad and episode 9 with the previous director in charge made the director not know what to do and did something rushed and made a terrible ending

If the Sequel Trilogy was hated so much, WHY DID THE FIRST FILM IN THAT TRILOGY HAVE THE HIGH GROUND?!?
@Ranvijay Arora Supreme Leader Snoke?
Its simply because of the backstory. Everyone wanted to know how it ends. I watched ep. 8 and 9 at the cinema. And it Was terrible.
First of all there should be inflation for the older movies and the plot of the trilogy was forced and rushed
Because more people knows of it now, people then knew but they didn't at the same time. Besides when everyone thought that it could be great everyone bought tickets and wanted to see its ending.... I was dome after TLJ.

Every trilogy's first movie is the highest in it's own trilogy
Ep. 3 is my fav❤
This should’ve been measured by ticket sells not $ bc the inflation and dollar worth was extremely different for the original trilogy, even the during the sequels in early 2000’s money was worth way more
Every movie star war exept for VI be like: Imposible, how?!?
I agree, I call bull on the fact that rogue one is top 5
I love how after the Forse Awakens all other prequels dropped in sales.
Do you mean the sequels? And if yes, that's normal. The same happened with the prequels. Episode 1 was definitely the most successful prequel movie and the other two movies didn't really come close to that. The same with the Originals. People go to see the new movie because it's hyped. People waited for many years to get a new movie. Even if they've never seen another Star Wars movie before, they'll still watch it. But why should they see the movies after that if they didn't really care for the first one in general and just saw I because of the hype.

I'd like to point out that minimum wage is very high now and movie ticket prices are higher than they used to be.
