As an English teacher, I usually teach homophones - sea and see - or homographs - read and read (past tense). But this group of words is the same spelling but different meanings - equally or more important for new English learners! 🤔
Marks 1 one is , how much we get in test and 2 one is , marking the attendance. And one more is mouse 1 one is , an animal 2 one is, mouse used in computers 🖥.
Hi! The word you described is spelled slightly different, notice here - BREAK (e.g. a coffee break [noun] or to cause something to break [verb], e.g. break a window). The word BRAKE [a noun] a device that makes a vehicle stop (My bicycle has no brakes on.) or [a verb] to make a vehicle go slower or stop (e.g. Please, brake gently on icy roads!). Hope that helps! 😄👍 And thank you for your comments!
Hi @tahaferoz9184, beat is a good example, however it doesn't mean to lose someone. Beat = to do better than someone, to hit something/one repeatedly, to be extremely tired, and so on... 😀👏 so a great example overall! Thanks
This is a good question. The word homograph means "same writing" (in latin) and it's worth mentioning that the word homophone means "same sound". Homonyms however combine both of them so it is the same writing, same pronunciation and, off course, different meaning. In conclusion, you could say that every homonym is also a homograph. This is all explained in another video: ruclips.net/video/rhY9kuReOdA/видео.html Hope that helps.
Do you know any other homonyms? 😃Share in the comments below 😃😉
