    Thanks for this video. You have saved a lot of people a lot of time. As you say, it's insane that these good machines some with virtually no documentation so thanks again. BTW, you can control spindle speed dorectoly from your G code. You have 8 possible speed, (S) presets in the handset which you can program to whatever spindle speed you want. Say you want to run a 12000 mm/min, make that, say S2, and specify 12000 in your G code. As long as the handset has that speed allocated to an S number, it will follow the Gcode.. Thanks again.

      Are you able to change speeds via your pendant, or only via G-code? I haven’t been able to get either to work. I've set G Code Setup > S Read = ReadS, configured the values for Machine Setup > Spindle Setup to allow 8 different speeds, but adjusting the spindle "gear" (as RichAuto calls it) either via the pendant (using ON/OFF + Z+/Z-) or via G-Code (i.e. M03 S12000) still has absolutely no effect on the actual spindle speed. When running the program, the controller correctly detects the speed indicated in the G-code and displays S3 (which is what I have set for 12000 rpm), but the spindle itself reaches 22500 rpm (since I have the VFD set to 375), and the difference is clearly audible.

      @@Sentientfx1 okay, thanks. I’m going to have to keep digging then, because I’ve tried G-code that’s generated from Fusion 360 as well as hand-written G-code where the spindle speed matches one of the values configured in the pendant, and while the pendant recognizes the speed by displaying the appropriate spindle setting (e.g. S3), the VFD either never gets the message or ignores it.

    I love my IQ that I purchased from Laguna's "Outlet" store for $5K shipped. It was listed for $6.5K, so I got a deal. Turns out though, the bearings in the spindle and the X-Axis bearings were worn out (trade show demo machine), but Laguna technical support stepped right up and set me a replacement brand new spindle and all four brand new replacement bearings for the X-Axis along with instructions to a 4 x 8 CNC that showed how to replace the bearings, but the principle is the same for the IQ.
    NOTE TO EVERYONE: If you are carving 3D files, transfer the file from the thumb drive to the internal controler memory and run the file from the controller. Why you ask? The thumb drive cannot keep up with the required read speed of a thumb drive (no matter what brand of thumb drive). From experience, I runied three projects when the spindle tookoff in the positive x-axis and carved a 4-inch long x 1-inch deep grove in my 3D carving that was approximately 50% complete and 7 hours of wasted carve time! Wade: My I suggest you make a video that shows how to transfer and load a file into the controller memmory, as the process is not covered in either of the two Laguna manuals.
    Best - Michael

      Thanks for the Input Michael. I never thought of running Gcode from the internal memory yet as I haven't had any issues. I'll keep it in mind for the future. I used to run a Fadal mill back in the day and we had to DNC larger files to the machine and they were limited to 9600 baud. We could definitely tell a speed difference back then although they never crashed the machine. I just might make a video on this.

    • @sendguns
      @sendguns 3 года назад +1

      @@WadeMade Hi Wade: Yes, tech support told me about the transfer/read issue when using a thumb drive. As long as you are carving 2D items you have nothing to worry about the read rate. Also, you may or may not know, but the maximum capacity of a thumb drive the hand-held controller will read 8MB. Anything larger in capacity will result in an error or a can't read (don't remember the exact wordage). Lastly, I can't determine if I can create folders on the internal memory of the controller. Maybe you or someone else sharper than me with an IQ can chime in on this last item.

    Appreciate the video and all of the advice. I am literally using my Laguna IQ for the first time and I cannot figure out why the puck is not zeroing out Z axis properly. Every time I touch off the puck, the spindle run height is at least an inch or more higher than the work piece. I have abandoned the puck and am just lowering the spindle to the point of touching the work piece and setting Z0 manually. I did go in and tried to set the C.A.D. thickness to the actual puck height of approx 25mm. But that just added even more height to the Z zero when touching off. Any thoughts on how to fix?

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  11 месяцев назад

      I'm sorry to hear your having trouble. I haven't been on my machine in a while but maybe there was a software version change. When you entered the thickness in the C.A.D. thickness on the setting page did you enter a positive or negative number? Whatever you entered I'd try the opposite. But when you go to test it keep an eye on the height so you don't accidentally plunge anything or notice any weird behavior. Maybe hold the puck in the air for the first test. Also make sure you enter the thickness in millimeters. I hope that helps.

Sometimes, when the program is started, the speed of advance of the machine does not respect the speeds of the Gcode despite the correct configuration of the DSP. It happens randomly. The speed of the machine is too high and burns the wood. If I restart the program a second time, the machine still does not respect the speed of the Gcode. @@tchaotchaokit3463 Hi Julien I've tried to post this response twice now and for some reason, youtube is not allowing it. So the post you used to create the gcode in fusion? Is that a richauto post? It does look very much like that one. There is a Laguna post in fusion you might want to test. It's very different from the rich auto post. I checked your code file and while I can't find anything wrong with it, it's not opening in my ncviewer program correctly. It's missing parts of the geometry. I'm uncertain if this is an issue with the viewer I'm using or your file. I've seen odd things happen to CNC machines when there are rounding errors in the gcode files and that might explain why it's not opening correctly. Lastly please double check your setting in your menu, auto pro, gcode is set to readF and not ignore F. I know I've asked, but that is the only setting that affects this. I was thinking it could be a modality issue but I highly doubt that. I'd suggest a simple program test, maybe a 10" square with a one inch plunge in Z with feedrates of 2540 for x,y and 254 for Z. This will be easy to diagnose if the feedrates are working or not. You might want to test with the post you used above and the laguna post and see if that one fixes your issue. If that doesn't work you might have a defective controller.

      So I tried searching the internet for Richauto and Fastgrid and didn't have any luck. My suggestion would be to test it. You can write a program that plunges 3" with the Z plunge speed at 10ipm in vectric. Make sure to set the tool height higher than 3 inches off the table. If Fastgrid is the same as Fallspeed and you set the Fastgrid to 1 in the control, your speed should read 254mm, then try and set it to .1 And run it, it should then read 25.4mm. The video on the shapeoko I saw mentioned it runs on nema 23 motors. I'm pretty sure Laguna claims the IQ are nema 34. But I wouldn't let the motor size sway you. The Laguna IQ can't really take advantage of the speeds a nema 34 motor can achieve, whether it be the motion design or the controller itself the machine needs to be slowed down from the factory to keep it from missing steps. After that it works perfect and is a solid machine. Stepcraft is another company that makes even a 4'x8' machine that runs on nema 23 motors, albeit with a different motion system. Broinwood has one and makes some amazing wood inlayed cutting boards. But you should know he started his business on a similar machine as the IQ, so that's equally as good. Good luck!!

But you'll still need a mach 3 license, a PC to control it, plus a USB smooth stepper device and a handheld router to mount to it. It's not near as good as what your looking at but it might get you started.

    I'm looking for info on how to change the Z limit, I changed to a lower spoil board and a few of my shorter tools won't reach.

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  3 года назад +2

      I'll take a look at the settings once I get back on the machine. You may be limited to the Z-axis length though. But for a temporary fix, you could always try and use a quick change collet like a muscle chuck. That ought to extend your Z lower some. You'll lose some of the Z+ height but if you need it to get a little lower it might do the job?

      If your talking about adding on I doubt it's possible. But if your talking replacing the Rich auto control I wouldn't be surprised if it's possible but I can't tell you for certain or not. If it is, I'm betting you'd have to start from scratch with your calibration settings. I've yet to see someone convert to Mach 3. But I wouldn't doubt there are people out there who have.

      Hi Sherly, I've never actually set up stepper motors from scratch using this control. In the past, I did come across some documentation regarding this. If I locate it again I'll be sure to post it here. Do you happen to know if your machine has 1-pulse or 2-pulse motors currently?

    thanks a lot, you have post two realy interesting videos for DSP users,
    I have DSP B18 (4axes simultaneous) and I find nothing else als those chinese stuff, ok, what important ist what Wademade post. I have seen tath in Fusion about postprocess there is the Richauto who make a code in .nc (ok with the 3axes), there is also a generic chinese Ledio in .mmg (must take the 4 axes but I have not yet succeeded better than 3 axis with this one and there is te Laguna in .PRG? Laguna propose for the 4 axis to use a other axe, ok sorry you do not have those question, I look forwards, watever if you have something to post about wat make sense to prepare behind the computer specialy for DSP about postprocessor other something else, I will be very interested, have a nice time

      Thanks for answer. If you do not, I have allready an other chalenge ;-) is it possible to read the complete name of a file before start it? and an other question (not important) how do you write a welcome message on the DSP? (I have seen one but do not rember wehre)

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  3 года назад +1

      @@franmo662 I don't think this is exactly what you are looking for, but you can view your gcode on the control. The first line would be the complete name of the file usually depending on what post you are using. But you can find that info here ruclips.net/video/fDrOJ-1CE4g/видео.html As far as a startup welcome message I'd have to look into that. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way.
