I like the older look. I wish the S was a tad bigger, but it’s by no means a deal Breaker. His buck could’ve been a little beefier, but the amount of accessories seem to make up for it. Might get 2 to keep mint in the box.
I'm still getting this figure, of course, because I love Superman. It's just so disappointing, because the tailoring of this suit doesn't look well put together. It's like they were rushing to get the figures done and tried to ship them as fast as they could. What's going on with those red belt loops? What's up with the cape tucks at the shoulders? That looks horrible. The abdomen seems to be too short for Superman. I think he needs to borrow Reeve's abdomen joint to appear normal. I mean, Superman's torso is practically shorter than Mezco Wolverine's torso.
@@BATBOMB82 I think this suit looks good this way. Any tighter would probably look too ill fitting, imo, cuz we would see all the joint seams everywhere. My biggest problem is the way the cape is stitched at the top and another problem is the thick black border around the S emblem. I just wish they used the same kind of S emblem that Beast Kingdom used for their classic Superman.
Once you get over the terrible bait and switch between the promo art S and the one he actually comes with, I think he'll shine best in a "Classic" only display, with Shazam, Dr Fate, Golden Age Batman etc... But along side the rest of the Mezco JL, he looks out of place because they all have sculpted logos and other similar aesthetics that this figure is missing. So for that, the original Mezco Superman will always have a place in my collection. I feel that the new Classic Spider-Man and Green Goblin are gonna have the same problem.
You know what I think it is? I think people will never be completely happy with these old school classic looks on these figures. We're spoiled with highly detailed Mezco figures so when we get ones like this Superman, it's jarring and we all think it looks cheap.
I originally though one of the punch effects was a bonus ice breath which could peg into one of the open mouths, it would of been an easy win. Thanks for the quick and detailed review as usual !!!
Congrats on your latest Mezco One:12 review, Anthony! Great review--thanks for your breakdown and thoughts. If Mez decided to do the new heads-with-neckpegs to allow more head articulation with the light-up sculpts, I can get behind the decision, even though the easy pop-off would annoy me as well. But that light-up sculpt is pretty wicked.
Wow, something you pointed out, I think we haven't seen a company do supes with an Ice breath effect I think def worth pointing. Still I'm glad this fig is out since it's one of the few supes figs with eye laser effects and a SMILING FACE lol
Fantastic review, to be honest , i liked yours more than D Amazing’s review, also I think that the entire Mezco Superman collection are cool. Great work 😊
The thing is this. This Superman is dope no doubt about it. BUT the suit looks cheap and that’s crazy because I own the BMS the return of the king figure and it looks so clean and classy. I love mezco but 3rd party companies are easily beating them man. I canceled my preorder for this one.
I definitely don't think the suit looks cheap. It definitely doesn't feel cheap. I think the problem is it feels a little too baggy on him. I think if it formed better to the body, it would look so much better.
@@BATBOMB82 Exactly! There will always be a slight issue with actual clothing on figures. Plus, on a 1/12, scale, fabric can be tricky to adjust to a small articulated figure. I'm soooo close getting this Sups! I think your review, compared to others, was the most straight forward addressing any elephants in the room, which a greatly appreciate! This figure has its cons, but the pros def outweigh any of that! Cheers
People used to say Mezco were over priced Mego's and I'd always argue that they were wrong...I'll have to concede in the case of this one. Cool accessories though.
This style of head sculpt with the ball peg attached was an excellent choice because you don’t lose articulation with the light up function. It’s too bad you’re having issues with the heads, though. Mine work perfectly and are snug so, maybe it’s a “mileage may vary” thing. I bet you could heat the neck up and squeeze it a bit, then cool it down to make it a bit more snug. Good luck!
You're not, I saw/heard it too lol. For a second I thought I fell asleep on the first part but then I'm like "Wait a minute, didn't you JUST SAY THAT " 😂 Probably small editing error.
First off, THANK YOU for putting him next to the classic Batman and Shazam! Seen lots o people complain about his height while putting him next to bigger figures, but against the more comic accurate figures he looks perfect! As for the figure, I’m with everyone else in being disappointed by the costume. I personally dont think the outrage would even be that bad if the outline ver was what they showed first, but them advertising and selling you on a completely different design is just scummy if not outright swindling. At least tony mei and other third party costume makers are gonna be eating good lol.
The only reason I would get it is for the headsculpts, this version of superman is just short and lacking that larger than life shelf presence you expect for such an iconic character plus his too close to the reeve body and if you got that version just get the headsculpts......oh you can't do that because they switched the head peg design, wished they didn't underline the S making it cartoony instead of looking stitched, will have to pass, if the price was under a hundred maybe buy but over $120 plus shipping, just no.
They should probably connect the cape to the body inside not the actual custom What I would have definitely liked was if they made his chest magnetic and have bullet ricochet effects like the first one The way they made the trunk's makes the torso look tiny although I think it's just ok just how the trunk's come up
I feel like this more "classic" look feels out of place with some of the other DC Mezco figs I have like John Stewart and the Sovereign/Supreme Knight batman figs. They have a more "realistic" techy look to their costumes. This version of Supes might look good with the Ascending Knight from Mez... but IMO this superman looks great next to the Mezco Golden Age Batman. They both have the vibrant classic looking costumes. They both seem a little older - middle age-ish looking. I'm glad you put those two together in the size comparison. Thats probably how I'll display them. Thanks for another great review!
Mine arrived right as I hit play on this video. After a quick look, there are definitely some issues. I hate how the cape attaches. It just looks bad. Same with the Reeve Superman. The black outline on the “S” is ok only because of the yellow one on the cape. The heads stay on well though. The neck needed a taper at the top because there’s a massive gap in some poses. Overall, I’d give it a 7 of 10 because of the head sculpts and accessories. The new peg system threw me because I had plans to head swap with the Reeve Superman. I just don’t like the outfit when compared with the promo shots. Similar but very different in bad ways.
@@BATBOMB82 yes... but what the option? having the one with led with the ballpeg, and the others with the socket and a ballpeg to share them? this way its easier
I think U got paint issue on belt and emblem is printed quite not straight to the collar. Also little blue strings on cape burns my ayes 😅 you have very good camera bro 👊thanks for explaining so much details how things work.
Those blue threads on the cape can't be right. Every other video or picture I've seen doesn't have them. Mezco's quality control is suffering right now. If I were you I would contact them and request a replacement. Love your reviews by the way. Keep on keeping on!!!! Thanks for what you do.
The thread on the cape is supposed to be tucked into the shoulders of the collar. But it won't stay no matter how hard I try. So it should be hidden but it's not on mine.
I think for a classic superman the dimensions are good on figure and costume. The blue stitching on the cape is annoying, and mine had extra wire and cloth bunched up at the ends like it's poking him in the neck. The head sculpt doesn't stay in very well either.
I just cant with mine. Ugh the cape doesn’t stay and you can see the bulge of the cape on his chest. Luckily I have a few spare Superman bodies and swapped them out. Probably just toss this one.
I wish I could say this was the perfect Superman to complete my Mezco Justice League lineup, but obviously it’s not perfect. Hoping Keaton Batman turns out better
I think it depends what version of the Justice league you're looking for. I'll be posing pictures soon with all the classic looking JL figures from Mezco. I think he works great with them.
Smaller than Batman, Shazam and even Aquaman! Stumpy proportions with long neck and small chest instead of the barrel chested Superman from the promos Tiny T Shirt S Shield and black border crayon Not a bad figure but a very badly missed opportunity and why couldn’t they just stick with what they had show before? Even the Reeves Superman looks better than this one and definitely more proportionate
My one and only gripe is that he’s slightly too short, but he looks 1000% better than the first Superman they made lol
The accessories alone make it worth it. Wish the S was as big as the prototype, but I can easily say this a much better figure than the last one.
I like the older look.

If even Batbomb has some issues with this figure, and Batbomb Really likes Mezco figures, it's time to go back to the drawing board.
I still enjoy it honestly. But I think people need to acknowledge that it's OK to like something that still has flaws.
