I got an AM5 back in august, and it is brilliant. I connect the mount to the asi via wifi, so it gets rid of another cable, and I power my asi from the mount. I use a redcat51 and 533MC Pro, and guiding is always around the 0.47” mark and the only reason it creeps up is when the high clouds roll in.
Awesome video, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to upgrade your mount and HC software on the AM5 separate ZWO software program which is different from the ASIAIR software program. You can also double check your home position there too. Clear skies to all
I had a quick look at this and fortunately it’s all up to date. I’ve not found anything yet on how to calibrate the home position similar to the spirit level approach used for traditional mounts.
An AM5 mount buddy! Congrats on purchasing a great mount. I’ve only used it a couple of times now and love it. Can’t wait to go to dark sky sites with it. Good luck with your imaging.
Great video, Thank you! I am also newly an AM5 owner and used it with my 6" newtonian just a few times. I don't see many people who use it with similar setups, but you. That's why your thoughts and experiences were very important for me, thanks for the videos. Btw, I believe that you didn't mention about the periodic error of your mount. Can you tell what the max and min periodic errors are? Clear skies!
It really is sooooo portable. I was setting it up this evening and I realised that because it was really low the view was obscured by a bush. So, I just picked up the whole lot and moved it back a couple of meters. Definitely never could have done that with the eq6-r pro!
Thanks Luke. This mount and tripod is a dream to use, particularly as I cannot have an observatory and need to move around the garden depending on what I'm imaging. Too many trees! :D I loved just carrying the whole setup inside at the end of the night. Just like you used to with a lot less effort on my part.
@@Si-fp2ij well, I’ve not been able to use it for a good few months due to no opportunity for astrophotography so it makes for a beautiful piece of standing art in the house. I’m hoping to get out on some clear winter nights now though.
I really like what I’ve seen so far with the AM5. My biggest concern is PA with no internal scope fixed on the mount. When you are able, could you cover this ( pro or con) during your first operational video? Thanks.
So, for this you will need to use the main scope for polar alignment. The ASIAIR supports this as default and is very effective. I think Nina or Sharpcap supports this type of polar alignment too. It’s definitely not an issue for me from this point as I’ve not used the polar scope on my other mounts for about 18 months. No more bending down. :)
I’m looking forward to doing a video after 6 months to share a more detailed view on things but for now it’s looking good for the mount but cloudy outside.
I got out with it last night. Hopefully I’ll have a video to share this week. I did have guiding issues but I might have a reason why. Also, the guiding was pretty good.
Thank you for sharing that. Thinking about it years ago I remember buying something similar for my landscape photography setup which was for that purpose. I put the Jackery in it tonight to try off grid Astro. :) thanks Karl.
I think you've doomed us all for clouds lol. good luck with the first light I'd love something like that for portability but I can't see it happening for a long time yet.
@@astrojourneyuk ive been trying to reset the home point but it will not allow more than 5° offset when calibrating home point but ive found out it is ok to remove the 4 centre bolts in the saddle so i can set the saddle clamp bolts to be on the left while holding a heavy ota with my right hand.
It's on my list. Have fun and enjoy!
So far this evening it’s a dream to use. The polar alignment controls are so smooth. 😍

I didn’t realise you can connect the ASIAIR to the AM5 using Wi-Fi. Do you need the hand controller connected though?

Looks very nice, looking forward to seeing your images with it kit
Hopefully the first one coming this weekend.
Thanks for the video - it helped me connect my Redcat 51 to my new AM5. Should finally be clear tomorrow night so I can try it out.

I feel envious! Good luck mate. Hope this will be awesome!
Thank you. Given your RUclips name this definitely won’t fit the budget side. It’s expensive but so far seems worth it. Well, relatively anyway. 😂😂😂
@@astrojourneyuk haha yeah! Astro On Budget is such a contradiction in terms. :D

Nice video. Looking forward to more videos on this mount
Hopefully coming over the next few weeks.

I’m not jealous at all haha
Thanks Shak. Yeah, I might regret it when the clouds roll in and I'm still paying it off. :D
@@astrojourneyuk haha only money mate. Looks like a clear sky tomorrow anyway so hopefully you get to try it out 👍🏼
Here’s hoping!
Nice simple instruction...thank you!
Thank you. Also, have you bought one or looking to get one?

The 'hammock' can be used to add additional weight to the tripod for stability

It certainly feels super portable. The plan this year is to try more dark sky sites and this will help.
Thank you for the video. What is the diameter of the top of the tripod? The black plate including the little squares over the legs?
Oh I measured the tripod but didn’t read your instructions. 🙈😂 The internal diameter is 8.5cm the base plate (attached to the mount) is 8.48cm…
The diameter of the top of the tripod including the squares is 13.09cm
@@astrojourneyuk Thank you!
8:35 you said 5.5 kilo is that mount + tripod or just the mount? thank you!
The mount is 5kg and the tripod is carbon fibre and a bit of metal. I forget now but it’s certainly around 5.5kg.
@@astrojourneyuk For a few weeks, i have the AM5 now 🙂
@Daniel_DP83 have you had a chance to use it yet? I hope so.
I need the saddle clamp knobs on the left, reset home point? or have to unbolt saddle?
Sorry, I don’t quite understand your question. Can you elaborate further please?

I’m afraid I don’t know how to do that. 😢 I hope you find out and maybe you can share it here?
@@astrojourneyuk yes you can just un bolt the saddle, flip 180 and re=bolt.
Great, thanks.
Does it work also with NINA?
It should do because they have ASCOM drivers available and it should then work like any other ASCOM mount.
