I ran all the games in the park the last year (1989) and lived in a trailer under the comet... if I close my eyes I can still hear the screams, shakes, & rattles. Out of respect to history I stood and watched every piece of that wonderful park sold on auction day (including the comet) with more then 1 tear in my eye... and to be honest I must admit I have some memorabilia that never made it to auction.
Whenever anyone asked 'did u take the last ride?' I always laugh & say, no. I never even rode it' Didn't have to... how many can say the lived under it lol. That park was one of a kind and I miss it to this day :o( Thanks for the video.
Losing the Former Crystal Beach Amusement Park was truly a Sad Day in all of the Niagara Region.. Unlike the Cyclone being Replace by the Comet, The Crystal Beach Amusement Park was never Replaced…
It was Herb Schmeck who designed it. It's on the front cover of "The Forgotten Legacy", it's a book available from ACE, based on all the coasters that Herb Schmeck designed.
The placement by the lakefront made it even more spectacular. That first drop with the lake at your right side, unmatched!

He talks as if the ride is gone forever, but as he said, it still functions at The Great Escape, in Lake George, NY.
I'll never forget going on the comet when I was 9 years old. I went on with my moms friend and my reaction was pure panic like someone being murdered
what ?? didnt really explain how the placing of the ride was the parks downfall ????
James T. Mitchell? According to RCDB, Herb Shmeck was the designer.
