  • This video shows you how to use Google Maps for scouting and hunting. By using Google Maps you can put way-points on our hunting areas using your computer at home and you also can use your smartphone while walking in the woods if you have a signal and data.

    Sean, I use topo's all the time for my bowhunting seasons here in KY. Glad to see others utilize them as well. Nice video, you have a great place to hunt. My name is Sean and I'm born and raised in Pittsburgh! Go Steelers

      Thanks Sean. Yeah, the Steelers pulled it out in the end today. God bless you.

    Sean, this is awesome! I m gonna start playing w it right away. I wish I could know this last deer season in Maine mountains where no coverage at all. Thxs!!

      That is great. I'm so glad you liked it. Also, hunting in Maine with no coverage might be a good situation for a handheld GPS. Here is how I use mine if you want to watch it - ruclips.net/video/JECXJmmbQJA/видео.html
      Good luck out there and God bless you!

    Good work, Sean. Definitely appreciate the highlight of the icons you click. Great for mobile screens in particular. I use Back Country Navigator from Crittermap. It's pretty good, but I hope they improve the interface.

    Sean can u do a video about what to look for on maps and try to explain what certain vegetation or kinds of trees look like what an area would look like that deer perfer? Alot of people are looking at maps in flat regions like delaware and its a big green blur.
    Topos aren’t truelt helpful in flat regions so whst should we look for ?
    Thanks

      Thank you for taking the time to read and answer everyone’s questions. Just imagine how many times the LORD has to do the same with prayer and never falters. Our Heavenly Father must be exhausted hearing and guiding us to seek the answers we need. Guess that’s why he has folks like you to help. GOD bless.

    Great video, I would use a screen recorder program so you get better video of the app and don't have to hold a phone and camcorder. Loved the video.

    Which one you're using just Google maps or Google go map

    This may be a foolish question, but if I'm marking points on Google maps, aren't I marking those points for anyone searching that area on Google map? I'm looking to make a digital map of a friends hunting property for him. Ideally there would marked points for every stand, so that when we are hunting we can assign a stand to individual hunters and they can utilize the map to locate the stands.

      @seansoutdoors  Год назад +1

      It's only linked to your account so the only people who might see them are people you intentionally share them with. That's why you don't see thousands of people's saved waypoints when you open Google maps

    Great vid Sean! Have you checked out Scout Look Hunting? It is a free app and I like it because it gives me the scent cone for each of my stands. I typically check my fixed stand location's scent cones before deciding which one I want to hunt the day before. I will also try the google maps you showed if I get the chance.

      I haven't used that particular app, but have used others, and every weather mapping app or program or any weather source I have ever used has never given me useful wind directions. Living in the mountain simply causes constant swirls so there seems to be no reliable predicting source out there that actually helps you plan a hunt in the mountains where i live and hunt. Any hunter in my area will probably testify to this. That was one of the other nice things about my Iowa hunt last fall. The wind was actually the direction that was predicted and it was usually blowing hard enough to keep your scent away from the deer if you chose you stand location properly. It was such a nice relief!

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures can definitely attest to the disconnect between the weather news and what's happening in the hollows I hunt. In fact, I have learned to plan for the opposite wind direction than what is reported or forecast.

    Sean,nice job as always and very informative. How does GOOGLE maps compare to On X maps which has both I phone & GPS chips for Garin?
    Also battery life seems to be an issue with either of my I phones.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 лет назад

      I carry a battery pack for recharging my phone while hunting. It does die pretty fast. I have not tried the On X maps as of yet.

      @@seansoutdoors can you mark several locations ? or just one at a time?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 лет назад

      @@catboat4228 If you are using the unit, just one at a time, if you are using Basecamp on the computer, you can mark a whole bunch is a matter of seconds.

    Sean, Google Maps versus Garmin Montana 680t? Which do you recommend?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 лет назад

      I prefer Garmin because it’s a little more accurate so I can often find my tree in the dark when I’m going hunting. Google maps only puts you in the area
