This is like the best tutorial ever thank you so much.
Didn't expected to see you here
Damn & you been making amazing beats for 5 years lol so I needa take notes on this. Do you have any other videos you suggest bro?
I love that you shared this and made it simple when I know it probably took so long to figure it all out. I've actually always been working this out for myself but you unlocked the matrix for me!! You could have kept this to yourself and the beat is🔥🔥🔥🔥 grateful🙌
I respect this beat a lot
I have never done something like this - being a guitarist in a band, I usually compose music on my guitar and then work it through with the band. But this video legit inspired me to give this a shot because I really enjoyed the process and the way you outlined it. Thanks a bunch for it!
Wow this a very powerful gem!!! Next step is to set up my whole library categorize in this setting.. Thank u so much game changer for my workflow
I was reading something when I started watching this... Missed the whole tutorial but put my headphones on right before that bass jumped in. You killed this dude
daaaaaamn this beat was so unexpectedly good
i use mixed in key because i used to dj a lot.
Really essential tool for my production workflow. I can recommend it
Dude... plz keep making vids. You're the only legit guy on here explaining shit... and im even on Logic... still... thank you
I feel like such a beginner. I don't know music theory so my only guide is what sounds good to my ear.
Same here bro i hear something good ill work with it i dont know too much about this
Good to know I'm not the only one. I want to learn music theory though because I think it would simplify and shorten the music-making process to a large degree. Right now, I just find myself listening to stuff over and over again, tweaking note after note. It can be really slow. With a knowledge of theory, I might know what theoretically would sound good instead of playing this guessing game with notes.
Rick Schmidt my nigga torrent music theory for dummies. shit is boring af hence no one wants to learn it but makes making music 100x easier
Thanks for sharing this! Sounds good. 👌
Go to music theory dot com. A lot of great free information and practice
this was cold man, it really helps
OMG!!! This is freakin genius! I always wanted to know and understand the "relative" scales. This not only made it simple, but you also provided tools I could now implement as it adds emotion as the track transitions!!! Great job
Smart Guys!!!
Why i love being in the loop. you said a few things I didn't know and a few things I didn't put together. Nice Track! Now to use it.
I used it right away. I make many records with songwriters, and singers this harmonic mixing will help with matching the keys of already produced tracks. with their favorite keys to sing in. 90% of users are still in the beginning stage. or just beat making this is advanced producer stuff. thats why I like technology because we can all share to help each other.
Cool video sir.
Made me realise I need to study my music theory. But this video was a great help.
Cheers
This is one of those tut's thats simply pure Gold for producers.
This is a great tool for producers who struggle finding the keys however it's always good to learn music theory and be able to do this by working out the scale or key.
+MG The Future How do you recommend someone go about learning music theory? Like any resources (books, videos, websites) or tips that you wish you had when you first started would be helpful.
Genius playing samples and songs like chords and creating a progression
Dayuuuuuuuum. This video is a masterpiece in simplicity, technique, and informative...and right to the point!
This is great information for musicians in putting their playlists together. Great technique - Thanks!!!
One of the best explanations. Keep the videos comin man. That was very useful. You should be a full time music teacher.
great video man. Excellently crafted
yoooooo MG is music Jesus
He sounds so excited
akrazie hilarious 😂
This is brilliant! It really never occured to me to look at sample keys as chords and then building progressions off of that. It really makes sense - you get the same sense of unresolved/resolved play. Thank you for the KeyFinder tip as well. I now have they key of over 20k samples! Way quicker than loading a tuner into Ableton and analyzing each by hand.
"Rand Scullard" good looks. Exactly what I've been looking for.
Outstanding video. I've used Mixed in Key so many times in the last year to find keys of music. I've been using with my dj programs but it's dope for so many other uses. I also downloaded the KeyFinder program, just to try it out. Also - and this is strictly my opinion - but it's videos and tutorials like these that open minds further...because today's technology can take us above and beyond anything that we could ever imagine. If you love sampling then this is another way for someone to make their workflow smoother and more efficient. You also mentioned how Ableton and Maschine use's "scales" manipulation within the program...can you elaborate on that?
Thanks bro.
Perfect info! And for all you guys who don’t know music theory yet take the 5 hours to do so. Then I recommend making songs in all the major key signatures. It’ll make it stick a bit better.
yo this was so informative!!!! the most well spent 13 minutes of my week! brilliant bridge, great work!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge - so simple and so smooth. Great!
dsmn fine information, I had just discovered key finder 2 weeks back for a track I was working on. I'm looking forward to subscribing to your site based on the strength of this truly valuable tutorial. thx.
Damn I had no idea you could have keyfinder tag all your samples like that...thats a gamechanger for real! Appreciate you bro!
This is fantastic. Thanks for a great tutorial.
Ur super cool at teaching. Like how u in what notes go use. I'm a learn how to use notes. But if u got a great ear and don't slack on ur work it's virtually not necessary to find the key of a sample. I think u did a great job as far as ear...well that's the key to a great song.
Impressive... Amazing... Outstanding... Give you a ten out of five.
Nice work man. I mentioned the KeyFinder tool and linked to this video in a recent upload. I wasn't too familiar with the best programs/plugins to automatically detect the key, but this gave me an option to recommend. Salute
Awesome vid and that beat was crazy
Great Video! A lot of this is basic music theory and composition, But applied to sample based music these concepts are powerful and musical...
Man music is so beautiful... I've been producing hip hop for a little more than a year now and it only gets better the longer I produce
yo this is dope!
WOWOOWOWOWOW!!! 🔥🔥🔥 is a incredible explanation! Respect!
Amazing tutorial, brother. You should add the links in the description to put the icing on this cake though.
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks
Nice vid - thank you for the knowledge
Great Vid ....thanks for all your work.
Blew my mind! Great video!
thank you I come from playing instruments so navigating thru the technology has been my biggest hurdle to hop over, it's over now I'ma be sample flipping like crazy now
+MG The Future man key finder won't work for my computer for some reason, I'ma try and download it again, but I just might have to pay for the mixed in key
Damn on the site he said specifically he's not releasing key finder for Windows anymore and not too email him about it haha... But I might have a way to get mixed in key for free. Thanks for the advice anyway
really needed this, thx
Thank you for creating and sharing
Awesome video! Thank you!
Such a great tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks man that Interactive circle of 5ths is dope
Good work fam. You're shedding a lot of light to heads that might not have that "Hip hop DNA" as +CanvassBlack said. It can only help put better tracks out there.

By God, this is good. I started clapping at the end of this video.
“R2D2 from Jurassic 5...”
I think you mean RJD2 and the DJ’s in J5 are Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark
Glad to see an artist in this genre using some actual music theory knowledge. This video was intriguing. Thumbs up to music theory. Thumbs down to Kanye
Thanks, man
Good shit man. Thanks for the tools as well
This was a great video though because I don't know music theory fr so this kind of explained some of the stuff I do off ear in my beats, hopefully now I'll be able to do it on demand instead of having to guess and test with the samples
This is epic, thank you sir...You just made my life a lot easier :) :)
This is a great tutorial. Thanks! (not spam)
Thanks for your effort and time. It wasn't as clear as it could've been. Specify more clearly, that transposing samples is just a current trend and the circle of fifths is music theory that works for only some beatmakers and that the first rap beat makers had probably never heard of the circle of fifths.
this is perfect thanks so much!!!!
DOPE THANKS MAN
very well explain love the fact that u put the theory in most videos leave that out I guess cause they don't know it!!!
Dope beat... Damn!
Kanyes first album was sick
THIS IS AWESOME
