Cruz slept with Patrick even though he knew he was his son's friend ( and someone he had feelings for ), and did everything he could to make Ivan choose Ari over Patrick. He treated Patrick like air after they kissed, he was not ready to tell anyone about the fact that he might be gay ( or bi). He didn't treat him any better than Ivan did.
Ivan told Patrick that they wouldn't be a couple because he's not gay, but they could still be friends. Nevertheless, his feelings for Patrick were strong enough that he told his father about his feelings. I know he hurt Patrick by meeting Ari, but let's look at it from his perspective - Ari was the person he loved before Patrick, the girl
