i got coloplast bags given to me by the hospital but they where like the salt bags where they where a 2 piece sticker instead of circle clip. i currently use hollister 2 piece but with pre cut wafers which reduces the prep time and relieves so much pressure off me for cutting the right size. i also prefer velcro ends just because i have heard so many stories of clips breaking at very inconvenient times. i find velcro feels more secure to me.
Informative info about one vs two piece bags. Stiffness of the flange was particularly helpful.
I had a colostomy for about 6 months during cancer treatment. I only ever used the Hollister 2 piece non-drainable and I never had any issues. There were definitely close calls and some embarrassing noises but I felt the most comfortable in that specific bag.

only been with my bag about 2 months. hAving a hard time adjusting. I'm very self conscience about the odor. I tried essence oils. It worked!
Mariam I can only imagine how hard it must be. Being a woman we are always concerned about our appearance and personal hygiene. The stress probably causes flare ups with your disease.
For me just having IBS stress causes pain.
Easy for me to say but please try not to worry. If the waste is in the bag can you notice odor?
I am 4 months post op. Amazon has odor and lubricants to use inside your bag, much cheaper!
Amazon sells the Ostomy deodorant 8 oz bottle which last forever!

Why don't they just use a small plastic valve which you can unscrew from the bag to realease the gas? it would reduce alot of risk of spilling. I'm about to meet a surgeron to discuss my ilestomy operation in a week.
Hi Maggie, I watch your videos and but I am a new sub. I really light your hair lighter. It shoes your pretty eyes and compliments your skin. You do such a good job explaining all things related to these diseases. I have had my ileostomy since May of 2015 and I always learn from you. You are genuine and caring and we are better for it... I hope you are doing better. :-))
I thought the filters were for "burping". I just recently got home from the hospital and they gave me 2-piece bags which was a good thing since I also have upper digestive issues with gas problems so I'd be in trouble if I couldn't let out excess gas from my bag once in a while. My hope is that the filter helps it not to smell so horribly when you do let gas from the bag.
DegenerateProduction The filter will indeed eliminate odor. The thing about filters though is that they usually clog after the first day of wearing it

I prefer 2 piece for the purpose of seeing the placement of the flange over my stoma. Even still though there's been a few times where i put it on wrong and had too much skin showing on one side and the flange was too close or on the stoma at the other
I have never burped a bag from anywhere except the bottom. I use the Mio bags and they are the best I have ever used. Great system and I use the 2 piece system

Think that Convatec one piece is a colostomy bag if I remember it right from my old job in a medical warehouse where ostomy supplies was one of the big things we sent out. From what I’ve heard it seems colostomy patients don’t have as much output as an ileostomy patient has, so someone with very little output may be getting away with a one piece colostomy bag if they only need to change bag once per day or every couple of days. Just thinking out loud here lol

I have had ostomies forever and never heard of some of these companies. Its amazing that they dont let us know the options we have out there sometimes. Is it possible that some of the ones you covered are not available in all areas?

If you use opsite tape on waffer and cut it from the hole of stoma then this hack will reduce the problem of leakage at about 70 to 80%. I use 2 opsite with one waffer.

You can ‘burp’ the bag by lifting up the bag and opening the drain part slowly and letting air out. Unsnapping away from the flange seems somewhat more of a mess waiting to happen
Funny because I feel the same about that method! I've tried the lifting method and wind up dropping the end of the bag! Whatever works for you is awesome!
