- The LPG demand in the UK is shrinking, there are less outlets to fill up from and major fuel stations are removing their LPG pumps. What's going on and how can you avoid getting caught out?
This is the 2nd version of this story due to being forced to remove the previous video after legal efforts were made to block it. Find out the full details yourself by reading the information linked below, this is not really new news, but a lot of people still don't know what's going on so I wanted to share the info to make people aware.

John, like the majority of commenters on here, I also appreciate all the hard work that goes into making excellent and informative videos. I've been a follower for years and hope this doesn't make you stop - please don't!!🤞
Don’t give up John. I can’t afford a camper, so I live my dreams of van life through youtuder’s especially your channel. I look forward to your vlogs and wish you did more. I am a taxi driver, I’ve met thousands of people and can say most people can be nasty at times. That’s just a fact that will never change. IGNORE THEM. 😊
Hi John, Many thanks for raising the awareness of this issue. Those with a vested interest in the survival of forecourt LPG (which includes those who produce refillable tanks and the manufacturers/builders that incorporate them into their vans) should focus their efforts on campaigning to improve its availability rather than attempting to silence those who are informing us about its sad demise. As an Autosleeper owner with an underslung LPG tank I have been concerned for a while about the difficulty in obtaining LPG and what I am going to do in the future. It concerns me that so many new vans from large companies are being sold with underslung tanks as a "feature" to naive consumers who are not aware of this. About time something was done !
Carry on John I found your video very helpful its a woory about gas for the leisure industry
Hi John. It was a pleasure to meet you at NEC and it is really upsetting to hear about your experiences of the last few days. We really hope you will be able to ignore the idiots out there and appreciate that 99.99% of your viewers are not like that.
Don't loose the faith John, you're bigger, than listening to the weasels in our world. You're contribution is invaluable and respected.
You can never please everybody John. I for one appreciate your informative videos, and respect your knowledge. I have spent many hours watching and learning from your vast experience with electrics, and more recently, your unique van build. Don't be a sheep, keep treading your own path, and thank you for your content so far ....
Hi John. Personally I want to thank you for making us aware of what's happening. I actually gave up on LPG a year or so back due to supply issues. I have one independent supplier about a mile away who's about to close down, the next one is about 20 miles away. I've now gone lithium and solar with an induction hob for cooking, Costly to set up - yes but I'm now completely self sufficient. Maybe the answer is not to rely on forecourts but to encourage some of the larger dealers and camp sites to provide LPG fill points, after all they will have a captive market. There will be more than a few LPG storage tanks and pumps available as the forecourts abandon them. It might even convince me to dig out the refillable bottles again. Guess we just have to wait and see !
I totally agree with you, I have been saying for ages that the larger campsites should look at installing LPG refill points. Im sure if the big clubs did a survey the majority of both caravan and motorhome owners would say yes.
Take no notice of people that are jealous of your channel, your doing a great job keeping people up to date with the latest problems in the motorhome community,if some are unhappy, they can unsubscribe!!! Keep up the good work, and remember that we're subscribed to your channel, because we are interested, and enjoy your content.Derek.
Sorry you've had a tough few days John. Please keep up the informative videos if you can, we've learnt a lot from watching you, both van info and travels.
John, you are a valued contributor to the motor homing and vanning community and I always look forward to watching your balanced and well researched posts. Sadly, some are hell bent on spreading their bigoted opinions onto others as they see it as unfair that they are miserable whilst others are happy. Bugger them all, carry on what you’re doing and rise above it.
I’ve had a similar experience on an Owners Club where I spoke of the removal of LPG availability within garage forcourts and I too received a load of abuse one of which stated it was ‘false news’ and taken from ‘unreliable sources’….hmmm, my ‘unreliable sources’ include the ONS and Shell UK.
People just seem to be in denial as it’s going to be all gone before too long. Perhaps not commercially but certainly for Joe Public….Simples.
Strange that people think it’s not going on, even stranger when the messenger gets more grief than the companies causing the problem 🤬
John, you have contributed immensely on so many topics to our "community"; the snotty stupid people haven't. There are hundreds of people who are cleverer, smarter and better informed thanks to you sharing your knowledge and experiences. Just rise above the sh1te Bud.
In the past vlog, I mentioned putting the cat among the pigeons. My van is currently getting built, It's costing me ££££. I want information like yours, which allows me to make informed decisions about my long-term vanlife plans. Without healthy debates and discussions, I might make the wrong decisions.
Keep up the great work John.
I'm also going through a build and I opted for underslung LPG, now I'm not so sure...
I'm lucky that in my area I have 4 sites that sell LPG that are not petrol stations. The one I use mostly, use a tag system that allows 24hr access. Plus I have a big enough tank that I fill up every few months. And I am full time too. Good info 👍
That’s a great service option, maybe an idea for others to do the same 👍🏻
Thanks for your factual updates John. Those of us it affects are appreciative. Screw those who give the abuse for whatever reason. 😡
Thanks for the information John. Unfortunately some people don't want to hear things they don't like, even when it is true. Hang in there, your information is valued by the majority of us.
Well done John keep up the good work you do,i don’t often comment but I feel you’ve had a bad deal, please please please don’t let them get under your skin remember there are more with you than against you thanks for all you do.😊
Thank you John for the research you have done on this topic. I simply don't understand why you have received grief, to the point of a legal threat, for summarising what is a verifiable fact. Thank you for persisting and putting your neck on the line.
My thought is the industry is trying to hide the facts, me reminding people of what’s coming means less sales for them.
Trying to hide the facts from all interested parties; working on the principle that the fewer people that know, the fewer concerns will be raised until its too late and the axe falls
Hi John, I’m so sorry to hear your getting grief for making factual vlogs about LPG, I think you’re right the reason could be that the industry are trying to hide facts, please don’t let them stop you from doing what you’re great at the vast majority of us would miss your informative vlogs. I’m really concerned about this, we’re in the process of selling up to go fulltime in a motorhome, we will be upgrading from our camper van to a larger a class motorhome and would be relying on LPG for our heating and cooking, we watched a great vlog from Jon of Life Beyond Bricks on how much cheaper refillable gas is over electric, I have no idea what we’ll do if we can’t get LPG.
Keep the good work up
What happened to free speech
Hi John, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please don’t quit YT Your views and news on van building, motorhomes and especially the gadgets brings so much value to many many people !!!!
Hi John I’ve been following your channel for a long time now and your information and knowledge have been invaluable. Please don’t let the idiots stop you making such good honest, intelligent, well researched content !! You’ve been and still are a great help to the vast majority of this community, good sound guidance and advice. Give you self time to process this unpleasant event, we all need time. It’s impossible to eliminate the idiots but thankfully I’m sure they are a small pathetic minority. Stay positive onwards and upwards!!
John under no circumstances you give up putting out these videos! your conveying good information, we met you and Mandy on Sunday at NEC, you are thoroughly nice people, forget the idiots who criticise don’t give into them you have a voice as does everyone else, yours is the one worth listening to, Ian and Sharon 👍
Hi John, it's a great shame people don't pause for a moment and digest information before taking their anger about this, and other, events out on the messenger. Anyone with their eyes half open will have already picked up on the discussion about changes to LPG availability from 2 years ago.
I'm absolutely happy to be part of a generous discussion about my leisure activities, especially when people bring serious issues to the community, and provide verifiable links to build on my knowledge if they have them.
Threats of court action from a salesman are for the birds, idiots in motion mostly. Denying the facts would never get very far in court. RUclips trolls are usually just angry about their own inadequacies, and perpetuate their predicaments by not attempting to master the skills of critical thinking. We should pity them.
As for the rest of us, I welcome the information you and others freely give out and I'm sure I've directly benefited on more than one occasion. So, don't be downhearted John, you have a massive following and most love what you and Mandy bring to this happy space.
Press on John, you and Mandy are doing alright. 👏 👏👏 👋
Great video as per John !
Keep going 99.9% will always support you guys this is what family does 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻# legend
Thank you 🙌
Hi John, really sorry to hear you've had a load of hassle on your last video - we appreciate what you do and have learned lots and admire all of the great videos you've produced. Thank you - please don't give up - it's really helpful and great and everyone should do their own validation anyway on how anything applies to them and their specific circumstances and how it would impact them individually - the gift of google!
All the best, David & Rachel 👍
Like most on here John, I am so sorry you’ve had to endure this kind of behaviour. Please don’t let the minority ruin it for the majority to whom you have always been most helpful and informative.
Hi John, whilst the information you provided wasn’t music to my ears after splashing out on a refillable safefill bottle a few months back it was something I was totally unaware of. Unfortunately social media can be a cruel environment. For those unhappy with the news ,you have now provided an outlet for their frustrations. If we want to keep lpgs available it is down to the people to raise it to government not to harass you. Keep providing the great content and ensure you enjoy doing it. Thank you John.
Thank you so much John for really clear info and links to further facts. Don't let the few spoil it for you. There's lots of us that really appreciate you.
Hi John been following you for around 12 months as building a van. Your knowledge has been extremely helpful so please do not let the idiots deter you from carrying on. Keep up the good work.
John Please please keep giving us the great information and knowledge you have about camping and gadgets .Love your channel.
Appreciate the time you've spent putting this together and all the effort you put into sharing useful information and experiences. Please keep it up
I'm a 65 Yr young lady with camper. I want to thank you and Mandy for giving me the courage to go out in the van with just me and 2 dogs. My hubby would rather be on a beach in the sun for 5 days than having as much time as he wants with van.
Please don't stop the very much needed informative videos either of you. I didn't know about solar panels or batteries or eco loos or diesel heaters to mention a few topics you have covered.
You would be greatly missed if you stopped.
Thank you John for investing your time into this LPG subject
John, at the end of the day I always say .. live life based upon your values, to do otherwise will only bring you down to the levels of those who can’t stand to see you succeed! Keep on trucking!
John, .You're contribution is invaluable and respected.
I really enjoy you sharing your knowledge on the uk Vanlife scene and what's happening please, please keep these video's coming as some of us do find them handy and helpful.
Hi John, thanks for the information. We always enjoy your channel and learn a lot. Keep doing what you do - you’re obviously getting it right if folk are getting that excited about it
Save LPG..my car runs on this and runs beautifully!!
John Hi. Like you we run a channel that aims to help, inform and even guide folks through the minefield that is an alternative lifestyle. We dont comment on all you and Mandy's vids. But We do watch them. The reason we watch your channel is because we know that when making statements around these subjects you have done the research, evaluated the product or service, based on the information gained at source. That you take great care to ensure that the valued judgements that you give (for free) is accurate, based on facts that are readily available and have the benefit of your actual on the road experience. While not campers/van life people, our small traveling home we suffer the same issues; regarding the cost and availability of gas (LPG) and the cost per kilowatt hour of electricity provided from a pedestals, etc. (Sometimes this can be 10 times the domestic rate!! ) Cid and I fully support you, your channel and the excellent, invaluable and informative information given freely, to help others and pay it forward. Bless you matey. Crack on and keep doing what your doing. Regards Ant.
Hi John, thank you for the very clear information, and in particular for highlighting the petition.
Another wonderfully informative video John. Thank you.
Hi John I've never commented to any RUclipsr but feel like I have to say your spot on with your comments about LPG I use energas as I live in Hull and there deport is local to me I carry a spare bottle in my boot and will never run out not rocket science but seems some of us are sensible like yourself well done for speaking out cheers Neil
Hi John
I’ve been following you for the best part of a year and on the brink of becoming a full time van lifer. Your videos are extremely interesting. You are not a salesman, you give out sensible suggestions on all products you use. Please do not let the morons of the web stop you. You have enough going on in your life as it is at the moment. Keep your chin up and please give my best regards to you other half.
Keep up the great work John. Love the videos. Always informative and interesting.
Great info as always John. Always top tips and contributions
First one of your videos I have seen . VERY INFORMATIVE THANKS 😊
Thank you for ur info and input and the great vids you do as well.
Thanks for the info John, our van is reliant on refillable LPG as we have a Gaslow system so this was really interesting to listen to your update. I’ll be definitely signing the petition, thanks again 👍
Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough few days John. I’m very grateful for the information and videos you share. I don’t comment much or I’m careful what I say as after a tough few years for me I now find it very difficult to deal with any form of conflict and I just steer away from it. So I can only imagine what you’ve been through but I hope this positive comment goes a small way to making up for the crap. Thank you again for all your hints tips and advice from a person hoping to start a build this year.
Well done John. I’m 100% behind you. Once again you are only stating facts, being honest and informative. Thank you for making this vlog.
Hi John, thanks for the informative video. This will affect me as well as a lot of Motorhome / Campervan owners so thanks for the heads up which I was not aware of. I watch your and Mandy's videos weekly and enjoy them immensely and also use the contents to improve/modify my MH. Please keep producing great content. Ignore and block the idiots.
Thanks for the video. I still use LPG in my car and it will be a great shame to see it disappear. I thought with the introduction of the Dacia cars that run on LPG from the dealer/new, it would make a bit of a comeback as a clean alternative to EV
John perfect response to the naysayers. Keep at it for the vast majority who really appreciate your insights and knowledge.
Far from being boring John, I found this a very interesting video. LPG is getting harder to get and will get harder, but will still be available (albeit not as easily and may take more planning). In this video you make that quite clear.
@@alanhat5252 Our rural house has a 2000 litre tank for heating and cooking, and typically a home will need that refilling annually. I wouldn't want to have to keep swapping the 47kg cylinders you mentioned; they wouldn't last very long!
Keep up the good work you are doing, informing the community of what's happening in the future. It's a pity the 2 big Caravan Clubs aren't providing the information. I'm pleased I live in Portugal where LPG is freely available, indeed the apartment block I live in uses LPG for its gas supply.
Keep up your excellent vlogs.
Thanks as always for an informed, balanced information mate 👍
Thank you John for your information, please keep up your excellent work / efforts
Hi John, thank you so much for your very informative vlog yet again. Thank you for taking the time to research this for us too.
I currently live full time in our lovely caravan, so we use Flogas, but in the future hope to get an RV of some description. I will be signing the petition for all it will affect today/ next year and also for the future of LPG. Thanks once again mate.
Great video, keep going John. Interesting reading. All the best
Hi John,
You know that I’ve been following you for years. I can’t believe how angry and super sensitive some people are. I find your videos educational and interesting. I’m glad you’ve done this video because LPG is more difficult to get now.
Don’t give up, keep on producing quality videos for us.
I’m so sorry to hear what you’ve been put through by kindly creating an informative video about the demise of LPG and what alternative options there might be. I found that first video nothing but informative and helpful. You are a wonderful RUclipsr and always go the extra mile in explaining and exploring topics that for the Campervan community are really helpful and interesting. THANK YOU.
Please don’t let the ignorant, arrogant little minded people stop you. You are well respected by so many of us John. I’m personally really sad you’ve had such a shite experience and having had numerous of those in our time, we empathise hugely. Thank you for taking the trouble to make this video. We are concerned about the issue and are trying to find alternatives so we are prepared. Raising this topic as you have helps us do that hopefully in as timely a manner as possible. We really hoped you were having a lovely time off of the stress of the builds and enjoying the show. I’m sure now more than ever that you’re itching to get out in the countryside for some R&R. I hope that’s soon. Meanwhile hold on to the fact that there are thousands of us who back you and appreciate you John. All the very best.
Great Video ❤ Keep these Videos coming it’s got great content and information! 👍
Hi John - just a supportive comment - I've found you're content very useful and informative and you're clearly a nice guy.
We love you John and all you do it’s much appreciated
Love the information videos.... keep them coming 😎
Well said John, eminently sensible. Trying to inform the thick amongst us of future changes can't be easy. Keep going 👍.
You have put a lot of effort into your content and you do it for the right reasons. Thank you for this. Hopefully you will feel more positive soon. Do whats best for you John but it will be our loss if you stop doing your videos. G
Hi John, love the channel you give out fantastic information, please keep on. I’m waiting for next instalment of your van build, then it’s the open road yippee
John, I’ve just come across your channel as I was looking for information on this very topic. Really useful information and food for thought. Thanks. I haven’t seen the comments on previous video’s you refer too but hope you will be able to ignore them and keep up the good work. 👍
A very well put together video. Amusing how folks are stuck in the past. We have economically viable technology to move away from LPG in leisure vehicles: Lithium batteries, Inverter, charging from solar/alternator/mains, diesel/petrol heating, electric compressor fridge/freezers, electric cooking (induction, convection, microwave). It is only a matter of time before new leisure vehicles are supplied new in this way, and it is feasible to convert existing. It is time to get heads out of the sand and move on from LPG bottles / tanks.
If you keep your LPG needs to cooking ( which it is really good at), and do everything else with either diesel or electric, then you should find that your gas fill is taken over a much longer span. Over the next few years, when you haven't got as much choice where you fill up, it won't be that inconvenient if you have to fill every couple of months and go out of your way a bit. On the other hand, if the fridge and heating are all gas, then you will be refilling every week and it will become a pain.
Hi Voyage Adventure Vans, thank you, that makes sense but the motorhome we’re interested in has Alde heating, running that on electric would be pretty expensive.
@@wheelersinthewild We have Alde heating and running it on gas is very expensive also. It can empty a 6kg calor bottle in less than 2 days
This is the first time I have seen one of your vids. Thank you.
great vid as always John , informative , honest and backed up by facts . sorry you had a hard time due to idiots . sometimes the truth hurts for some . got a friend watching all your content now , he is moving into a van next week and told me he has learned so much from you . deisel heater stuff, gas , electrics etc . glad i told him about you .
Great informative blog again John! We’ll done x
Keep doing what you do John. It is invaluable for people like myself. Im slowly converting a minibus into a camper and invested in a refillable lpg system but have not yet installed. Your video made me do my own investigation into the availability of lpg. Strangely the suppliers of refillable systems don't mention the decline of filling stations only point to sites who list stations who have lpg pumps. And quiet a few of those listed say lpg is currently unavailable. One of the big refillable system suppliers make a big deal they have installed a pump at one of their sites. Great if you live near Lougborough!! I can't afford to invest in lithium batteries yet so the alternative options you provided in your video have made me rethink my setup. Once again thankyou for your informative videos and please keep making them. 👏👏👏
You are providing real information. Keep up the excellent work; there are Terry Fukwitts everywhere.
Well done, John. You kept your calm in spite of others.
Stay with us. Selfishly, I need your videos.
Royce
I’m shocked at the vitriol and abuse you receive for seeking to help and advise others. You work hard to help and educate people like us with less experience. We truly appreciate the effort you put in to educate, assist and help others. Keep up the great work. Kindest regards
Thank you for the update John. 👍🏻
Thanks for the detailed explanation John, very interesting and informative. Take it easy, Ian
Thank you for this info, John. Very interesting for all of us motorhomers...
Please don’t give up John, there are plenty of people who find your videos very interesting and informative. Don’t let a few idiots grind you down although I know that’s better said than done! Keep you the good work xx
Thanks John you’re videos are very informative and I appreciate your values and keep doing what your doing there are a lot of numpties out there rise above it lad 👍🏻
Well said John. We have known this for over 12months. Don't understand why people don't know this as plenty videos of motorhomers struggling to find gas. As we are not full timers I have converted my cooking gas over to small canisters which are easy available and I can refill them myself. Keep up the good work. Cheers from old George and Jane
Apppreciate your integrity John.
Don’t let the trolls take your energy and bring you down to their low vibrations and frequency.
Just ignore and do not reply.
I wouldn't like to guess how many folk I've inadvertently got on the wrong side of by being misheard or misread. Accuracy, brevity and clarity have been MY hard earned watchwords. Along with your 32.000 + other subscribers, I have been learning from your vlogs (warts and all) for a long time now. PLEASE allow us to remain your virtual travel companions. I am happy to put up with the odd broken spring caused by an idiot deliberately digging the odd pothole along your route. Kind regards.
Hi John thanks for the information great yo see some body thinking about other people keep up the good work 👏
Hi John. I came to the NEC at the Mirider stall. Were you there? Any way, that aside, I and believe me when I say there are many others, value your opinion. What has kept me and us following your channel is your honesty, calling a spade a spade. You back up your opinions with facts and research so why do others think they can shut you up. Carry on John, we are behind you 100%
We were with MiRiDER on Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 11am to 1pm 👍🏻 after that we were walking around and at other parts of the show
Just watching your video about the lpg very informative it was a massive help to me take no notice of the moaners keep up the good work Thanks
Graham👍
Keep doing what you're doing I find your videos very informative, it's a thumbs up from me.👍
Keep the faith John. You are not alone!
Great video, thanks for the information... Much appreciated 👍
Hi john your wonderful we love your blog and find them enjoyable and informative keep going
You are doing a great job I find it so helpful thank you 😊
Hi John. Your clarity on the LPG situation has been a big help for us. We are getting a new van this weekend that unfortunately takes the gas cylinders that are being discontinued by Calor. An underslung tank was one of the options we looked at but have decided to get a diesel heater instead and use the 907 cylinders for cooking. Things might change again in the future and we’ll deal with that as and when it happens. Keep up the great videos.
Hi John chin up. most of us are behind you.your vlogs are very welcome there's always trolls out there.well done very informative.
Well done for putting this out there 👍
Hi John thank you for all your help and don't give up.
You are just telling the facts from government sites.
As a journalist keep a record of all your meetings and copies of all comments. Have a word with Channel 4 who may investigate.
Keep up the good work and keep us informed.
total bummer John sorry you've had a hard time for just trying to help people. please keep up with your informative videos. like others have said we as a community have learnt a lot form you be it about van builds, van life info or travelling. you've opened my eyes to what is out there be it good or bad or places to visit. this is the downside of the internet that there will always be people hiding behind a keyboard to cause trouble. STUFF THEM Jon, your heart is in the right place and your a kind soul who likes to help people. take care stay safe
John please Do NOT GIVE UP. Try to Ignore them and not let them stop you from doing what you do so well.
I want to thank you for raise the awareness about LPG. I did my own research after your previous blog and found various references to LPG being phased out by 2024 by various providers. My campervans’s underslung lpg tank needs a 10 year inspection and potentially replacing. I am now going to consider alternatives.
I also looked into the various size Calour Gas are to discontinued as I have some at home for my BBQ. They still will offer a large range of options and say that they are consolidating their range. I was lucky as they aren’t disconnecting the size I have.
You obviously hit a contentious issue with your previous vlog but please please keep making your interesting and informative vlogs. Take care Kx
Many many thanks John for taking your time to publish this info. You have saved us some cash. We was getting the underslung gas tank on our build but after seeing this I think we would be better off investing the money into more battery and solar power and getting an induction hob... 👍🏻
John please don’t allow the ‘Ostrich’ minority to spoil it for the majority of us, your subscribers. Those name-callers are afraid of the facts you have shown us and I’m sure they are concerned about their futures, but they are extremely unprofessional, in my book, to resort to being rude & hurtful towards you, or anyone who may challenge them. You have helped us & guided us many times with your honest & informative Vlogs. Please, please rise above these challenging times & keep your channel running the way only you can. Love to you both xx
Yet another really excellent factual video John. I, like so many others, have relied on your honesty and integrity for a number of years and I don't think that you have ever let us down. A product may work really well for a period of time but you are not afraid of informing us when some unexpected fault suddenly appears. When full-timing we cannot, or in my view should not, rely on just one source of energy and a mix of electricity and gas provides us with the alternative that we need when one of them fails, especially in winter. The information that you provided on LPG was based on fact and it has helped us to consider the options for the future. Personally I believe that even if the garages stop selling LPG then an alternative source of supply will emerge to meet the demand, perhaps not as widespread but accessible. Today I paid £0.79/litre for LPG but I would be quite happy to pay £1.00/litre because it is a fantastic source of energy for cooking and in an emergency for heating. You have over 30,000 subscribers that support you.
