The New York agents that came to raid Peanut's home were there for 5 hours, after multiple complaints of illegal wildlife ownership. The owner said that they were excessively heavy-handed. One of the agents claimed that peanut bit them through 2 pairs of gloves, requiring them to euthanize and test for rabies. The owner stated he didn't see peanut bite anyone. The owner also stated that he was in the process of obtaining appropriate documentation for the animals, as that is required in New York. What really gets me about this is that some of the people who complained about Peanut were probably animal advocates. The same people we see online admonishing beginners for purchasing bettas from a cup and not giving them their idea of a perfect environment. Their heart might be in the right place, but I don't think they realize who ends up suffering - the animals. There are people out there who are truly heinous to animals, and all of these complaints on people like peanuts owner, who clearly cared for him, takes away resources from finding people who are truly harming animals.
Well said! What a great world it would be if everyone could accept people are different and mind their our own f!$@ business! My heart goes out to the family who lost their pets. It's sad.
Its not just about putting everything on the internet, it's also about you're vote currently there are two states that are finding out the hard way that putting useless leaders in charge could end up ruining you're life.
I'm a hunter and i wish there were more people like you out there. I've had several run ins with people on public land while dove hunting. I completely agree that people should mind their own business. If people are not hurting you or your property, or someone else then I believe they are doing nothing wrong.
@sparrowsfish alot of the trophy hunting in africa does alot of good. People wealthier than me put alot of money into the local economy helping those people, in some cases eliminating dangerous problematic animals that threaten people. And I'm not talking about predators. Some elephants and other animals pose a real danger to people. And most of the meat and organs go to feed the local people. But i do understand your view that killing animals is wrong. But alot of hunters have respect for nature and only take what we will eat and its not just about killing. I've gone rabbit hunting once and saw 2 rabbits chasing each other around. I didn't even draw up on them cause i was enjoying watching them. Go deer hunting and watching the world wake up. Beautiful fall mornings on a swamp while duck hunting. Its not just about killing or getting a trophy on the wall. Its experiences. And i have mixed emotions when i drop an animal. Yes i took a life of a beautiful animal just living its life and i acknowledge that and it does sadden me a bit. But at the same time I'm proud that I'm providing for my family. The day i don't have these mixed emotions is the day i should stop hunting cause i feel that's the day i lose respect for that life.
It was all over the local news here as we are about 3 hours away. I know people who have all kinds of the out of the norm animals for pets. I have chipmunks and squirrels that would come to my camper daily in the summer to eat peanuts. They would climb up my leg and sit on my lap and shoulders and take peanuts out of my hands, and hang out with for a while. If I was not out on my deck with my coffee at a certain time, they would be chirping away until I came out. No other people around me could care less about my interactions with them. Some people just can't stay in their lane and mind their business. It's only going to get worse.
I have followed Peanut on instagram for years and was gutted when I saw what happened. Sobbed watching his poor family go through this. I honestly never thought about it happening in the fish hobby but you are 💯correct. There’s always someone out there lurking other people’s social media account who’s miserable who wants to make sure that everybody else is just as miserable. Just terrible.
I don't know. I could probably make this reply into a book, reacting to all the information you've been talking about right here. Maybe it would sound like bravado. Maybe it would sound like I'm a keyboard warrior. Whatever. What I know beyond the shadow of a doubt is this. If somebody were to try and enter my home and hurt a member of my family, the Pearly Gates would be very busy. As you know, I lost a member of my family a couple years ago while I was 1400 miles away. I was absolutely helpless. I can promise you that I will not be helpless again. Never again.
John, if you like the idea of having a raccoon. Look into pet skunks. They are super adorable especially albino skunks, you get them unscented like a ferret (they still will have a smell) they are very cat-like in personality. I was so jelly of my friend who has one but loved her posting pics.
We rescued a baby squirrel and named him Nutty Buddy. But we limited handling him and when we released him he scampered off and lived happily ever after. But if he had tried to follow us we would have kept him. SECRETLY! I feel so bad for the people and the animals. 😭😭😢😢
How many ppl have dogs that are not vaccinated like come on bro this is crazy. So I guess they will take all the dogs and cats that’s not vaccinated smh. Nosy ass ppl
This is like what happened to that poor reptile owner in Florida. Look up the officers that killed over 30 snakes including a pregnant one for NO REASON because of their dumb new laws. It doesnt matter if you dont like snakes. Dont like fish. Dont like squirrels. It WILL find you. We need to stick together and stop letting these laws be passed and stop letting authorities play power games with responsible owners :/
I can understand that some fish are illegal in the U.S. due endangered species act and / or that fish is considered invasive to the habitat. My grandfather had an Asian Arrowana when I was young and was with him for over 10 years. Until he was arrested and fined in 1977. He didn't care. He was just heartbroken that his pet was taken away.
Totally agree this also ticked me off. I remember the peanut story. And there is similar stories out there. I had a fox, and my neighbor reported it to Animal Control. Well we had a furbearer liscense at the time so was legal. But the point is the neighbor should of minded their own business. I am still ticked off at those neighbors. And that was 30 plus years ago.
10:16 There is a study of rabies taking 25 years to incubate in a human from 2012 ( Study name: Rabies viral encephalitis with proable 25 year incubation period!). While the animals could appear healthy you just never know. I understand this is a pet animal they have kept for a long time and they wanted to do the right thing. But in the case of squirrels and native animals sometimes it's best to leave them be. If there is a way to safely take them in with the laws of the state then sure we should follow the law to the fullest extent. I feel really bad for the family that had Peanut and the racoon as well and I feel the law did overstep things possibly. But honestly I feel after knowing that rabies can take way longer then just years to manifest is enough a reason to leave wild animals where they need to be.
Hi neighbor, Virginia fishkeeper here. I just wanted to say I enjoy your videos & that I feel the same on this. I think one of the biggest dangers of something like this happening in the fish world would be triggered by people keeping fish in very inappropriately small tanks like the terrible betta setups you see on Amazon, temu, & what-not. I've also been seeing fb groups showing AI tanks that are all wrong in various different levels but someone out there is going to think that's a legit picture & like you said start putting their nose where it doesn't belong. I hope this doesn't happen, I also wanted to say as a deer/turkey hunter I respect you for how you put that even though you don't go along with it. Basically we just like harvesting our own food because it's probably cleaner & we know nothing is being put into it that shouldn't be. Same as eating grocery store meats we just process it ourselves but anyway keep up the great videos. Thanks 🙂 👍
The worst part of this was that it was in Texas. You’d expect this rubbish in California or New York but Texas is meant to be free of this government overreach. This video is spot on.
No, I live in NY, those Econ officers don’t feel guilt putting them down. But I also know how strict NY is and I wouldn’t post anything like that on social media. I don’t have a problem if they eat them and respect that it is a gift. I hate the ones who shoot for the trophy. We know the type that called. Peanut helped raised money for a Sanctuary, whomever called has stolen money from other animals.
Thank you for talking about that. you are right on it. some peoples just want to make troubles for others. and poor animals died for that, what a world of degraded humans on this planet,
First comment in a long time, the manager comment made me laugh. Protect your pets. support your local clubs and organizations like usark or other groups. Come together, we can be heard. Much love to you guys.
I'm just going to take a wild guess here but the person who called the government looks like the woman who got psycho dad taken off the air 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Fish do not have any likelihood of carrying rabies. I disagree with what happened, he should have e been permitted some sort of license to care for the squirrel, but states have these rules to prevent the spread of disease.
Yea, gonna go ahead and say it was legitimately political. A woman inTEXAS is the one who reported them only after the squirrel was on video wearing a certain red hat. Also, legal and illegal mean nothing without morality. If people think it should be illegal to have a squirrel or need permission from tyrants to do such, you have to much time on your hands and need to focus on your own life. Not to mention the obvious government overreach.
I have come to the conclusion someone is against any hobby. "If I don't do it it's bad and must be stopped!" There are people that aren't a fan of taking fish and putting them in glass boxes.
Clearly neither animal had rabies, so thats a b******t reason. The owners mistake was ever posting anything about it on social media. You can’t expect privacy if you do that. Having said that, whoever reported them should be ashamed of themselves. I don’t know what state they lived in but many states do have laws against owning some wild animals so maybe that played a part in what happened, still its a shame. They could have quarantined them to confirm they did not have rabies and if necessary rehome them with a rehab facility to possibly release them to the wild again, but its unlikely that would have been successful. Its a sad situation. The lesson of the story is, stop posting everything about your life on social media, to make money, unless you are prepared for the consequences.
The owners other mistake was not getting the proper permits to keep them. They had plenty of time to take care of this. If they had, then nobody would be here talking about it.
Somehow I think everyone is not seeing the forest for the trees. I, and probably most people who were upset with this story, have pets. I can't speak for every state, of course, but in my state (and Peanuts, NY) your pets (we are not talking livestock, which these were not) must be licensed in your town and vaccinated for rabies (every certain amount of years), with documentation of such. Peanut and Fred's family could not have complied with the law because if they took them to the vet (ever) they knew the vet would report them for 'harboring wildlife without a permit'. That means neither of these pets had any vaccinations (irresponsible, at least) - but more than likely because they knew they would get in trouble with the Fish and Game Commission for owning them. They exploited those pets for the money on social media - plain and simple - and now their cash cow is gone. If they had got permits for them and brought them to the vet for rabies vaccination, their animals would be alive today - as there would be no reason to get tested for rabies. Sorry, their own fault.
But they didn't have rabies did they? I know i'm saying this as fact, but if you know anything about rabies you realize how small the chances are that these animals had them.
The reason why the NY government got involved in that situation was that the owners were claiming they were a wildlife sanctuary which is regulated but they did not have any permits for. If the owners had just kept the squirrel and racoon as a pet and not called themselves a sanctuary they government would not have gotten involved.
I am an animal lover. Years ago I rescued two baby squirrels until they were big enough to go back to the wild. I don't know where these people are but most states have pretty strict laws against keeping wild animals as pets. Some places they need to be registered & vaccinated just like cats & dogs. I'm thinking this event was to set an example to discourage others from doing what they were doing. This family may have been safe with these particular animals but the next person that tries it might not be. If they broke the law & broadcast it to make a profit, it is their fault. If they had just rescued, recovered, and returned them to the wild it may have been a different situation. Keep in mind that rabies is not the only disease these animals can carry; in the Midwest, for example, wild rodents like squirrels can also carry the plague. If you are worried about the animals you want to keep, make sure you check the laws in your state/county before purchasing.
John, I can't agree more with you. There are too many social justice worriers in the world today that just need to mind their own business. Stop worrying about what other people eat, what pets they have, how green their car is... just do what you feel is right and mind your own business! BTW, I want a government that doesn't have the time, and resources to raid a home to confiscate a raccoon and a squirrel...

@exhumed07 Ok well 3 states, 4 states, states .....10 states?

Hunting has its place but I get why some people don't like it and respect both opinions. Other than african trophy hunting. That's f'ed up.

@exhumed07 that is very enlightening. Thanks for sharing that truly. It's pretty wonderful to be able to have open discussion!
@@sparrowsfish i completely agree. Honest respectful discussion has pretty much gone out the window these days

The last part sums it up!!! 😂😂😂
Love this vid
Also wasn't the family using any money raised by their videos towards an animal sanctuary? I thought Peanut looked well cared for.

Here to show love to the aquariums n animals
Thanks

i saw a news report about a racoon eating an infants face soooo .... squirrels are harmless tho

At the end of the day it’s government overreach we love your fish there not just fish there our family ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
No for us it's the imported fish and plants. They want the control over .
Thank you for talking about that. you are right on it. some peoples just want to make troubles for others. and poor animals died for that, what a world of degraded humans on this planet,
imo the thing that could have us in trouble is the invasive species thing .... remember the whole snakehead terror anyone?
Bureaucracy slows democracy

Hi i was wondering can nano tanks just crash even if you are doing water changes every week and doing your best to keep all ok?
Yes. If you do too many water changes you can upset the cycle.
Fish do not have any likelihood of carrying rabies. I disagree with what happened, he should have e been permitted some sort of license to care for the squirrel, but states have these rules to prevent the spread of disease.
No. If they had that they would be mad and wanting to bite everbody
