- The Winnipeg Humane Society went from having 29 dogs to nearly 100 overnight after a major animal seizure from a home in Winnipeg's Richmond West neighbourhood on Wednesday.
According to the Humane Society, it’s the largest seizure in the province’s history - and was happened upon by what seems like chance.
“Police were on site regarding another issue and discovered this condition,” said Leland Gordon, general manager of animal services with the City of Winnipeg. Police confirmed it was a well-being check in the 100 block of Brentlawn Boulevard.
“There was a horrific stench of urine, feces, (with) lots of puppies in there,” said Gordon, adding responding animal services officers wore hazmat-type suits to rescue the dogs, which Gordon said had gone through trauma.
Marney Blunt reports.

The owners should be made pay for their medical care. They should also be charged for this
agree 100%
at 150k, that’s 2,200k per dog
It’s fine that the rescues have something to say BUT it’s not just the community- when are animal rights laws going to reflect the severity of the infractions made? And when are they going to be enforced?? This report did not mention anything criminal about housing 68 dogs in a horrid environment.
Why neiborhood from.whaever is it the place where 68 dogs in the horrible care were silent???!!!
Poor things. Traumatizing for sure. For all. Especially the dogs. How this can go on. I am so glad they found them.
Poor dogs 🐕 I'm happy they are rescued ❤
Some have probably never known a better existence- if I wasn’t allergic, I might adopt just for that reason alone.❤️
Don't blame the community for one home's dog hoarding or lack of proper health care, such as spaying / neutering.
Forgive me, I’m not blaming the community. However how does a neighbor / neighborhood not hear or notice 68 dogs ??
there is nothing mentioning about these people being charged and arrested.
Maybe vets shouldn't charge and arm and a leg...... theyre pricing is ridiculous
While I agree vet bills are out of this world maybe people should, oh, I dunno, make an actual effort to account for cost? You made the actual, concious choice to have a pet. Have accountability, unlike our government.
😢 Almost all advertising dogs for sale on Kijiji is from Winnipeg.
Police have to check ✔️ this urgently.
Maybe have a lot of inhuman places like this around all Canada.
what the heck man
How can people help to donate ?
Thankfully these dogs were rescued but will anything be done of course not.
Tell us who did this!
People don't want to spay/neuter their pets? Don't give them a choice.
It should be registered with the city and they should have to pay more for that and if they are caught not registering their unspayed/uneutered pet- no
pet.
@@bycrescentmoon8001the city does do things as you say its 41$ for a fixed and 121$ for intact
😩❤️
The dogs were in a home? I'm wondering if they were being raised for consumption and the authorities didn't want to mention it due to any differences in racial preferences.
Not much meat on small breed, bet it was a crazy lady thinking she was at least giving them a home or puppy mill
@@chrismathers8223 I'm thinking puppy mill
@@chrismathers8223it does not matter about the amount of meat on them ... frogs dont have much but are eaten.. these are one of the breed they do consume...
Thats right, play the victim, using jt lingo, its all your fault, not ours. Maybe if the price to spay or neuter was more reasonable more people would do it. Maybe if the college of veterinarians wouldn't impose a mandatory make money visit for simple medications, people would do it. MAYBE if meds and procedures that are either directly comparable or exactly the same as for humans were not so inflated in price, prople would do it. Look in the mirror b4 casting the first stone buddy.
Have you suffered a head injury recently?
@@dsab381 im a animal lover and thats ashame what people does to their animals but i do agree with the vets being crazy on the price of animal health
Never said that what happened was right. I personally think it was horrific, but when someone points a finger at the entire populace and then proceeds to say it's your fault, then yes, I have a problem with that. I also did point out some extremely pertinent issues that happen to do with cost that does in effect, cause many people to not pay for the service(s). If that's a problem for anyone, not my problem.
@Rocksteady246Wow, great insight dude. Can I not go a minute without seeing you everywhere?
@@TV2NITE3479 Obviously what he meant to say is the problem is coming from within the community, not that it's the entire community's fault. More specifically, it's the faults of people who don't get their animals fixed.
