- I finally decided to tackle Oblivion's hardest difficulty which I've been told is practically impossible; but I'm an Oblivion pro, how hard could it be???

I can’t count how many times I’ve switched to easiest difficulty when the scaling screwed me over
Me neither.
It's usually me focusing over non combat skills for too long.
Now I'm high on Speechcraft, but couldn't beat a Daedra without almost dying.
i find that starting at a harder difficulty and scaling it down as you level up helps with how the game feels and how powerful you feel by a lot

These streams were so much fun. Oblivion on hardest difficulty really makes you FEEL like the Hero of Kvatch 10/10.
Pick the Atronach sign and later equip 50% absorb magicka worth of enchanted gear. You will then never die from magic attacks again. It would bypass the High Elf weakness to magic issue.
And you can use telekinesis to refill magic

@@superscatboy if you have any amount of spell absorption there you have whatever chance to absorb telekinesis for some reason and spell absorb gives you the base cost of the spell back so if you get high enough mysticism and spell absorb you get more magic back then you spend
Ring of Namira and Meridia Ring help with those a lot and even reflect normal damage and spells so that helps also.
Oblivion can be fun on the hardest difficulty! It's super rough in the start, but it does make you play in a whole new way when you exit the sewers 😊Summons, poisons, weakness spells. And of course, minding level-ups. Oblivion is wonky and unbalanced in many ways, but it does present a unique challenge 🔥 After having finished the game on the hardest difficulty myself, I recommend it as a fun challenge for those with a masochist spirit.
Oh, and the reason the goblins were so awful in the sewers is because they were wielding daggers, rather than using fists like before. Creatures with physical damage are the real danger 😳
Glad to see your comment on here. I was about to mention that you did a 100% Oblivion playthrough on the Hardest difficulty.
Oblivion is for sure one of my favorite games of all time but I sometimes can’t stand the difficulty being so imbalanced. I love to play games on the hardest difficulty so oblivion can drive me nuts sometime lol 😆
Once you manage to get 100% chameleon all difficulty disappears

worth noting that all the rats in the tutorial are "simple creatures" so the bosmer ability works on them.
Also worth noting difficulty has no effect on NPC damage to and from other NPCs so as much help as you can get from NPCs is welcome.
I think the High Elf's weakness to magicka makes sense. Magic flows through their bodies very easily, like how metal can conduct electricty. This makes it easier for them to use magic, but it also makes magical attacks more effective against them.
But Metal can’t be murdered by electricity

Oblivion on its highest difficulty makes Elden Ring look like a walk in the park. I remember my fight with Mannimarco at that high level. It was a fight worthy of the gods of Tamriel. Especially when I kept distracting his summoned undead with my Dremora lord, and I pummeled his face with my fists.

when I was a kid in 2006 I didnt understand what over encumberd was, and thought the game broke. did the tutorial over and over
i did the same thing except in Skyrim, because my TV actually cut off part of the screen so i couldn't even see the "over encumbered" notification. So i literally WALKED from Falkreath to Solitude. Then, i accidentally dropped an item and felt soooo stupid for not having figured that out before

My dad bought me Oblivion when I was 12 back in 2006. But without me knowing, he put the hardest diffuculty on. I proceeded to play Oblivion on this difficulty for years, Before I realised it could be turned off. But man, I am glad he did. I remember it beeing such a hard game, so I had to really think before I did anything. I also didn't realize I had to level up in my main skills in order to level up. I choose a wizard, but proceeded with sword and shield. This made the game veeeery slow and hard. But I loved it.

The youtuber voicesfromthedark has a giant playthrough of oblivion where he 100 percent the game at max difficulty and holy shit it really showed just how insane and badly balanced oblivion’s difficulty was. Especially at higher levels the enemies just get crazier and crazier.

Also, totally by accident.... I randomly started switching back and forth between sunder and keening and realized my stats just kept going up n up n up, was legit my first glitch discovered by myself in a game without ever having previous knowledge of such existing! :P

@@inspectorlunge3887 it's two of the main weapons you get in the playthrough of morrowind to defeat the main boss. If you switch back and forth repeatedly it just keeps stacking up your stats and doesn't go away.
Wait until you make a soul trap on target spell with a self fortify stat lol. That also stays forever and is totally broken in Morrowind. Similar to Sunder and Keening but only limited to the fortify spells you have.
the very first thing you do after leaving the tutorial, is go straight to the arena wait until night, and then while crouching, move so you have the wired door frame blocking the guards view of you. pick the lock on the chest. its a hard lock, but if you know how the tumblers work, piece of cake.

I actually never played Oblivion on highest difficulty, as I was a kid back then. Currently playing Skyrim on Legendary and it feels a bit more challenging than tutorial you had, but I will give it a go as well!

Mannnn I love these videos. I'd really like to see you play some Kingdom Come. The rigidity of it (ie save system) would add some of the pressure you had here.
First time I played Oblivion, I accidentaly hit Martin three times, then he tried to kill me, so I made him unconscious, and he hated me up until Paradise Quest. He talked to me with that soft and gentle voice and then grrrrr. It was great hahaha

Mage's are surprisingly viable for max difficulty. If you power level it's also much easier. I have 75% shield with 25% elemental shields, so with a basic spell you ignore 85% of damage. Weakness to magicka ---> weakness to element ---> elemental damage puts the odds in your favour. But the sewers is quicksave after every kill.
Oblivion difficulty is not meant for the faint of heart 😂 that difficulty scale is wild

I'm just approaching 100 hours in a recent let's play I've been doing and people in chat have told me to turn the difficulty down but my pride won't let me. Even at default difficulty, the level scaling at level 20+ is so mad

im pretty sure that guard at the very start of the first oblivion gate is scripted to die, ive seen him fall over dead even after i saved him from the imps at the start just decided to die
Just slightly changing the difficulty to the right is enough to make mudcrabs a literal miniboss
Also, max-level difficulty applies to your summoned creatures and allies as well. I defeated a max-level Mankar Cameron using a flesh golem that I learned how to make in the Shivering Isles.
I am playing a game right now on 50 difficulty. I tried 100 and died more in an hour than I have died in all my other games for the past year.

Try hardest difficulty + Deadly Reflex mod, or whatch how I do it with a couple mods that make it at least playable for me, which are the Uncapped Actor Values mod, and the Magicka Fortification mod, + a mod that makes it harder, because of course why not, the Primary Basic Needsa mod, making drunken combat a real experience.
Deadly Reflex mod gives you timed parryings, stun attacks with shield and pommel, and bonus stun attacks with Acrobatics over 50 that replace rolls and backflips with flying and low kicks, and also elemmental damage criticals and finishers with both spells and enchanted weapons, and it makes the enemies tougher and able to use the mod's new moves just as much as you.

The tutorial is No joke max difficulty. The game it's more manageable with alchemy conjuration destruction debuff reflect damage if your close.

The biggest challenge is not getting carpet tunnel.
Alchemy was quite useful when playing like this. Poisons still dealt a bunch of damage.
it is not that poisons deal more damage, they do the same damage just that the swords and bows do 6x less damage, while poison and magic do that same damage, the swords with enchantment are useless on the hardest difficulty, poison are good at lower level but their damage has cap , magic is the best where you can stack weaknesses and craft your own strong spells.

I also rode an entire hour to cloud ruler temple when I first played the game. They really should have said you can just fast travel
Same here on my first playthrough but I never did reach the temple because I suffered the 3 red rings of the death mid transit. Guess you can say it took me a month to get there lol.

Sneak or conjuring is the only way to go through oblivion's max difficulty
destruction is the best, use weakness to magic or elements spell., you can craft spell which can two shot any enemy.

The best way to play oblivion on max difficulty is to use illusion and conjuration magic neither of which are affected by the difficulty slider
why illusion , destruction is the best, you can stack weaknesses and use enchanted weapons/custom spells to do huge amount of damages.
On the easiest mode the game practically plays itself

I had a high level character I had leveled properly (getting the +5 bonus as much as I could, etc.) I switched it to the hardest and could barely beat another monster at all.. full enchanted specced out gear for my build and all.. ridiculous
IIRC the scaling only gets worse the longer the game goes on, and thus by endgame the healthtank issues gets absurd on highest difficulty between the bonuses and maluses for player and enemy damage.
I used to play oblivion at 75-80% of the difficulty bar, it was very hard most of the time, in my recent playthrpughs I moved it down to 55-60%, didn't want to punish myself that much... I've always been curious: which percentage of the bar do people in RUclips usually use to kill hard enemies like clannfears in 3-4 hits? 🤔
I wish Bethesda would make RPGs again. Oblivion marked the point of a massive drop in quality in this series imo. Making action adventure games that appeal to kids like Ubisoft rather than making as good of an experience as possible with the resources they were given like Morrowind. And it paid off massively. Skyrim was everything everyone was talking about when I was in middle school. I think with current tech, Bethesda can really make a quality game that aims to do what Morrowind couldn't do and still appeal to a massive demographic, but why do that when you could just milk the same formula again and make more profit? Games like this that hold your hand and treat you like you're a 5 year old are unacceptable imo.

Entertaining video. However I must strongly disagree about the idea that Oblivion on it's hardest difficulty is harder than Dark Souls. I love Oblivion, to clarify. It's one of my favourite games and I have beaten it numerous times including once on very hard. [To be fair it was hard] But no developer does difficult, like From Software. Their souls games are notorious for being incredibly hard. I only have one being Dark Souls remastered, and I have been procrastinating on the way to the Ornstein and Smough fight. Because I have seen youtube videos of that and I KNOW what is coming.
The only comparison I can think of that isn't from a From Software game, is playing through Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Talking about hard, if your a self masochist or whatever that is the game for you. Because you will get owned again and again and again, and will continue to do so until you "git good". And because you are role-playing a blacksmiths son who starts out with zero combat experience, getting good means a LOT of training. And even when you do "git good" the idea of taking on more than 2 enemies at once, is a death sentence.
Even so, that's another game I totally love. And I will need to start a new play through on that, soon.
Yep KCD is really hard as fuck. And it's also funny that you can mess up quests if you're not careful or if you wait too long.

Higher difficulties in elder scrolls games just turn enemies into damage sponges and give you glass bones. One of the laziest difficulty systems I have seen for games like this.
