@@ferrumignis tnx for reply. My car is running just fine and when that happenes that i loose all my digital stuff on board car still runs fine. problem is that when that happenes i cant see temperature and guel gauge, and my speedo is not working
Interesting video. I hope it will work. A workingcollegue had a similar issue with his car. His speedometer had many cold solder joints due to the lead-free solder. they had offered to completely replace the valve. I think it would have been cheaper to just re-solder everything. so he had to pay several hundred. Great video
As a rule the unleaded solder should be removed first, if you don't then there is a risk that the random alloy you create when you add leaded solder will have undesirable characteristics e.g. becoming more brittle, or suffering from tin pest etc. A vacuum de-soldering station is very handy for this, I've repaired a bunch of SAMs now with cracked joints and water damage. I've noticed that there is one specific connector that is considerably more prone to cracked solder joints than any of the others,
Did that work? My 2009 smart fortwo shuts down while driving. If I turn the key off and on when this happens it takes off like nothings wrong, but some times I have to do it numerous times before it continues to run fine. It's gone months without doing it, and then it may start shutting down again for a few days or weeks, and then it's fine for a few months. I now believe it's the very same issue you have show here. Thanks for the video!
I have issue with my smart 450 but mine dont have SAM unit. When I put ignition on only airbag light flash, lcd not working. After 1 minute all lights are on exept LCD and after i pull out key from ignition, lights stay on,
This was a very interesting one. Never saw something like that before. I'm excited for the customers reply.
Repaired a lot of this in the old days. Cold solder joints caused by heating and cooling cycles. Great job.
I have this problem but my smart dont have sam unit. It is first model of 450. Checked fuse box everything is ok. All fuses
@@Chevy_90 Your car will have the ZEE unit instead of the SAM. If it's cutting out randomly have you tried changing the crank sensor?

Have you sorted the problem ? I believe I have exact same issue as you
Did you get any feedback from the customer regarding the success of the repair?
My van has a sam unit inside the glovebox and another under the bonnet . The one under the bonnet gives trouble in a lot of vehicles..
Great videos.
For sure your issue was from cold solder joints.

@@Chevy_90I'd be surprised if you don't have a SAM. My 450 certainly does. It's where all the fuses fit in the passenger footwell.
@@toozes my fusebox is under driver footwell On left side of the car
@@Chevy_90 that's because we have right hand drive, and you have left hand drive!
I think that a local car repair shop will just replace this SAM unit
Nope I tried that I live in Dallas Texas
