    Got love the orange air conditioning unit on the war bonnet.

      I think that's part of the electrical system. The Dash 9's have a shorter one compared to the AC4400s as that's where the inverters are on the AC4400.

      @@amessman On the C44-9W’s, the air conditioning unit is located behind the cab on the conductor’s side. The engine he is referring to is a C44-9W and not an AC4400CW

    That first leader, BNSF 5843, has been renumbered to 5532. Good thing you caught it like that! BNSF 5841, 5842, and 5843 were part of a 2004 warranty protection order only consisting of 3 engines. They were renumbered 5530, 5531, and 5532 respectively. Most of the 5800s nowadays are ES44ACs.

    @EWS60500 We still use the EMD GP-38 as a yard switcher sometimes but not usually on the mainline or as a road engine. GP-38s are supercharged, and have 16 cylinders to get 2000 HP. The AC4400 is turbocharged and gets 4400 HP from 12 cylinders and the AC6000 is twin-turbocharged and get 6250 HP from 16 cylinders.

  • @bradstrains
    @bradstrains 12 лет назад

    @EWS60500 EMD SD80s and 90s use 20 cylinders, SD80s have 5000 hp from 1 turbocharged 20 cylinder engine and SD90s have 6250HP from 1 turbocharged engine. They're almost the same except for the engine inside. MP-15 switchers of ours only have 12 cylinders and a supercharged engine and they have 1500HP and more starting TE than a GP38. They use the same engine except the GP38 has 16 cylinders and the MP15 has 12. The new genset switcher has 3 engines and 2100HP with them in a switcher!

  • @bradstrains
    @bradstrains 12 лет назад

    @EWS60500 One AC4400CW or Dash 9 could out pull one of your class 60 or 70s. More Horse power, more starting TE and more continuous TE. We put extra motive power on encase another engine fails, or just to accelerate and stop faster.

    @EWS60500 Now what America needs is better high speed passenger trains. Just about the only good one is the Acela, in Europe there are a lot more high speed tracks and trains. In Britain how many locomotives do y'all use to pull 70 cars? In America maybe 3 or 4 to get them over the mountains.

    @EWS60500 I both model and rail-fan and Some engines like AC4400s or AC6000s can pull 60 cars depending on there type alone. Do y'all use natural aspiration or turbocharger/supercharged? Most of our modern ones are turbocharged. But now GE is came out with this ES44 series that isn't good in high speed power but it is tier 2 environmental.I'm not a fan of it. Some of our engines have upwards of 200,000 lbs Starting tractive force, and could start 100 cars.

    4th Loco is backwards for opposite travel. That train being intermodal with UPS fright prolly was very short but limited to 70 mph max. 2 of those road units would be plenty of power to accomplish that. Seriously doubt all for jacks were on line.
