Very nice selection of early stamps which you found, and a lot of fun to go through. You never know what you might find. The blue stamp that you were asking about at 23:04 is Serbia Scott 20, issued in 1869.
I so enjoyed this video and I want to say why. I entered stamp collecting quite late in life and in my zeal I bought lots of old albums and collections off of eBay. I’ve matured since then. I’m more careful as to what I buy, I can also recognise just by a glance the more common collections on offer and those already in my collections. I enjoyed this video because of your excitement and passion for stamps I would have thought otherwise not very valuable. You showed me that from a motley group of stamps treasure can be found. I’ll be looking at my earlier purchases much differently now. Thank you.
Unbelievable finds! Even though the condition is mixed it is well worth the price you paid. That 20 denomination stamp in blue you couldn't identify about halfway through the video is from Serbia.
Great show. For a whopping $ 100,-, you made a fantastic purchase with a lot of neat stamps from the classic period. If this stamp box was stored in a barn, it shouldn´t smell. Most smelling paper items are from moldy and wet basements. But there´s a solution for your problem. Store the most valuable stamps in an empty washing powder box for a couple of weeks, and the smell should have gone. 44:18 This was cut off from an Austrian postal stationery. Greets from GER, U.
This is adventurous, looking through these old stamps. OK, the condition is not that perfect, but there are interesting stamps and some are still in a very good condition. For the Austrian stamps the cancellations are also very important. Sometimes you have a cheap stamp, but the cancel is rare. There are plenty of collectors who are looking for the cancels. For 100 $ this is only for looking through them it worth. You made a really good deal purchasing this old collection.
Just an FYI for the Belgian stamps at 18:42, 28:23 and 40:04 those are not cancellations. They are precancels. Belgian precancels have a rectangle with different things in the middle. I collect Belgian precancels if you have any questions.
That was a great snag....and so looking forward to the other unboxing episodes from this barn box! Sometimes, even these old boxes are also of some value! ;)
I hope you find some really scarce items. However, I can see a good many are not in very good condition, as you mentioned. BTW, I was born and raised in St. Paul (East Side) But in my early 20s I started living in different parts of the world , which was driven by by stamp hobby from childhood. I would always go back to Minnesota. Finally I left for good 20 years ago to take a job here in Canada. I joined stamp clubs in the Toronto area after retirement and regenerated my hobby. Nice to see a fellow native Minnesotan making great videos on the hobby. You are making a great contribution to the hobby with your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work!
Another great video and thanks for sharing! Your enthusiasm is infectious and I can’t wait to find my own “barn find!” Looking forward to your next video!
Amazing find. It inspired me to go look up some of my old stamps that I have not had time to value. I have quite a few of the ones you showed (German eagles, Canada queens, early British Commonwealth, et al), just haven't gotten to them yet. You know that if you soak anything with gum that has not been cancelled you automatically make it "used" and lower the value. But it looks like most of what was in that box was used, anyway. And there are a few old stamps that are designed to color-run if soaked (so that the cancels couldn't be removed). Scott should note which ones. Penny reds actually are quite common -- would be nice to find some Tuppenny Blues, too. Reminder: you never showed the "teaser cover" that led you to buy the box; maybe next time?
That sir is a young queen. Ha ha. I also covet the Chalon’s Just started collecting them. Nice barn find! A phrase normally applied to antique picking.
I think you hit the jackpot! Quite a few very nice stamps just in this one box. I love going through older box lots like this - even for more common material there is stuff that was readily available then that is just scarce now.
very cool stamp find ! I should be so lucky ! Looks like many of those were taken from an old album...... I have some like that I'm removing from an old album, many of which have paper on the back so they'll need to be soaked. That huge haul should keep you busy this winter ! Have fun with it !
Great find, great video and great energy. Your enthusiasm sure is contagious :-) I have some of the same stamps but the catalogue ( 2024 ) value is a bit different. I use the danish AFA catalogue so how come the prices vary so much ?
Hey Silk! You lucky dog you. How do you manage to find such treasures? LOL Great vid brother can't wait for the next my friend. What method do you use to clean your stamps? Thanks!
A new Silk video! I celebrated my Daughter's 14th birthday today with my family and she had her best friend come along with us for the celebration and it has been one of the best days of my life. Then, on top of it, I find a new video from Mr. Silk On The Web? This is proof God loves me and wants me to be happy.
WOW - what a find! Congrats on the find and looking forward to seeing the rest.

And this is just the first of two episodes... an unreal collection!
Awesome deal I'm sooooooooooooo!!! happy for you and I love the stamps for sure. Looking forward to your future episodes to see what else you got.

Oh boy they were *crispy*
every time you said 'another old British' I felt it was a personal attack, being both old and British myself.
Ha! No insult intended, I assure you

Congratulations, great watch. Australian Colonial stamps are very nice to collect.
A lovely batch of stamps. Judging by your shouts of victory, this must be a good pile of stamps...!!
Yay verily but that is a nice score

for salvage put a box of baking soda in a box with these items. later u can setup a UV lamp to kill off anything left

be careful and read up on the UK Victorias because soaking will make the ink run on some of them . read up on those b4 soaking
Great point... I keep forgetting to mention it in a video, I will soon
Great score . Just be careful those musty mildew oders are awful . I had a sore throat for a week going through a similar lot .
Hope You find an Inverted Jenny in one of the other boxes 😉, and how did Youre daugthers vollyball tournament go ? 😉😊😆

Ah... I should have shared a disclaimer... my Scott Catalogues are older... keep meaning to get a latest set but I'd rather buy stamps!
Hey Silk! You lucky dog you. How do you manage to find such treasures? LOL Great vid brother can't wait for the next my friend. What method do you use to clean your stamps? Thanks!
At 19 minutes there was a red British 1p red/scarlett- don’t soak it as the ink washes out. Fugitive inks were trialled as an anti-theft technique!
Good catch!
Silk, cool STP cap....! Curious to see what you dug up!! Hope that being stashed in the barn wasn't too hard on the stamps...!
Lysol spray helps also
I've bought old books that stink before it helps if you put the in a bag with baking soda for 5-7 days. Good Luck
