I don''t know why people are complaining. This actually does quite a lot of justice to the original idea and has just the right note of mixture between the wry humor of Leporello as he recites the lists of the Don's conquests and the horror experienced by Donna Elvira, who goes from haughty "executive woman" practically sneering at Leporello, to stupefied, saddened victim as she is exposed to and ultimately realizes the extent of the depravity of her ex-lover, for whom she was just an entry in his "little black book". I'd say it was quite faithful to the original opera.

This seems to be from a 2010 film called Juan by Kaspar Holten. This aria has definitely made me want to watch the whole thing - I thought the libretto was particularly well interpreted, at least here staying reasonably true to the original (in translation of course) whilst injecting it with the humour that an opera buffa should have. Bravo.

While translation isn't perfect, It still catches most of the Don Giovanni spirit. At least based on that scene. Some things are funny and there are little changes, but that is normal in Opera. Even more so in film adaptations.

This scene shows that one doesn't need to be a staging jackass in order to update opera. I love the adaptation they did here, both with the commuting theme and with the libretto. I'm sure Mozart would have been proud for this catalogue scene. How come I had never heard of this before?!

I think it`s a brilliant, jolly and `alternative` adaptation. No need for it to be in Italian. IT`s just a remake. It conveys the same message in modern terms, in a very funny way. Why not enjoy it for what it is and for the effort of the producers, without having to criticise it. The underlying message , of what bastards men can be, is conveyed fully!! Good work!!

If the name "opera" scares you (elitist, snob, old fashioned ...), this is a good and funny way to understand what is going on in "don Giovanni". After this, you might like to listen to the original in italian . And love it. In former times operas were always translated, could be good, or odd or funny (Wagner in french or Rossini in german!!!). Nowadays, operas are in original language, but some international singers have bad accents...

I've seen and heard worse. At least this is faithful to the plot points, and c'mon, if Don Giovanni were here today, he'd be posting his conquests on Facebook and Twitter under a fake name, after Leporello gets a shot of her on his iPhone. What do they do with the final Commendatore scene though, the point is lost if DG's demise is not supernatural and horrific. He can't meet with a routine end. How did they do it?

lol but nice experiment. Most of americans will never listen to this opera anyway because they hate worthy things but in English they might listen a piece and know a little.

First of all this is an interesting experiment although the English is often poor and should have been checked. Nevertheless Mozart's music was written for the Italian libretto and they match perfectly so I would not want to see the opera in any language other than Italian.

ComtedeMonteC I think Loprello has broken English because he's meant to be Russian in this version. It sounds so by his accent.

I agree. At first I thought it was a poor English translation, until I realized it was only Leporello's lines that were grammatically incorrect, as well as sung with an accent.
