Thank you. I am now convinced I need nothing more than a Deluxe Reverb, a Tube Screamer and whichever guitar I plan to plug into that combo. Not a 4x12 Marshall that's louder than hell; not a 30-Watt Vox that's as heavy as sin; and not a boutique pedal that costs more than a guitar & amp combined.
What I've learned from these videos is that I greatly prefer a 335 to pretty much anything else.
The 339 is a beast as well! Sounds to my ears almost exactly the same as the 335 but its sized more like a LP. I love mine and find it far more playable as an everyday.
I know this vid is like 3 years old but I had to share how much I love the 339 haha
Brian Kingsley I found that I particularly love the ES guitars made by Gibson. 330, 335, 339, 345, 355. And a few others. They are wonderful guitars that just scream TONE!
Yep I have to agree
Two guys not believing they are getting paid for having such a good time!
For me a Stratocaster +tubescreamer + deluxe reverb = heaven
+javier gallegos
I agree but Les Paul into Marshall gets me there too. Might be hell for the neighbors. lol
defintely, les paul + marshall = sexy hell :p those crunchy organic harmonics from a marshall and a les paul are orgasmic as hell.
It's like meat and potatoes. You just can't go wrong.
Strat>Muff>Power Booster>Laney VC30 (Celestion, not those HH Drivers. Greenbacks,)
Works for me. (let's just call Muffs & Power Boosters "överdrives" for the sake of argument).
Or: Tele>TS9>BD-2>Supersonic 22.
Twin reverb*
Les Paul + TS808+ Jtm 45 = heaven!!!
Those JTM45s knock the crap out of 99% of other amps. What a tone! And that Lovepedal is divine
This is one of the best shows I've seen for guitar geeks. Thanks so much guys.
I keep saying this ... been playing 50 years and you guys are showing so much detail... i love learning new stuff
The sound that Mick makes at 2:20 sums up how I feel about these videos. Great work!
The sound quality on these vids is so good, I learned as much about the different sounds of classic guitars and amps as I did the pedals. I have been playing for 2 years through a Deluxe Reverb. It was great to hear the side-by-side Vox, and Marshall tones with Fender amp. These are great videos for the new player trying to choose a guitar and amp.
I think the Marshall + 808 sounded more like SRV than the Fender did. Perhaps because the Fender Bassman that SRV used was the inspiration of Marshall amps. Great video. When you guys play together, is possible to feel that love is in the air... lol
The tone at 20:00 is so good! It sounds amazing!
I LOVE the graphics on the Tube Driver, that pedal looks like a 1985 Chevrolet Cavalier station wagon but more than holds its own for a tone or a sound against these more modern heavy hitters. Thank you BK Butler for changing the way we do things in the modern world!!
the way these guys look at each other, when one of them are playing the guitar, just reeks of man love.
5:15 Mick's face just says "Alright son, alright, simmer down!"
Its kinda weird how they look so intently in each others eyes when they are each playing the guitar...
I think it's lovely :-) living the dream, in the refuge of a man cave playing the best gear in the world with your pal.
+Matt Davis they are in love
+Alex Padilla Passion for Guitar man
It's a love pedal ...
+Alex Padilla gear geek love eyes!
I loved the sound best of the Strat straight into the Deluxe reverb. Sounds heavenly!!
I have to agree...I didnt expect it to work either, but Les Paul + Tubescreamer+Marshall JTM was AWESOME!!! Just loving these videos, just proves why being a guitar picker is sooo much FUN!!!! Thanks to everyone involved.
This is an unbelievably informative video. Thanks guys!
I love the look on the guy's face at 5:14 when the Les Paul goes through the tubescreamer into the fender amp. That is some truly great tone. I'm not even a Les Paul type of guy and I'm saying that.
That deep breath Mick takes at 6.07. I get it. I have done that several times when impressed and elightened.
Killer strat playing into that JTM Mick!
Thank you! It's a very inspiring sound I have to say. :0)
How ever I wish you showed the dialing of each amp .
By far the best guitar pedal demo I've ever seen.
And I love how Dan always talks like he's teaching Mick ahahaha. Dan you would make a great rock professor just like Jack Black.
They are nothing without their ahooga horn. On an unrelated note, the chirp at 21:25 made my day.
Daniel, thanks for not cutting that fluffed lick towards the end....show's your human like the rest of us. Fantastic tones from the LP again, it really is a great guitar. Reminds me very much of the '58 custom authentic I have. Keep it up guys, it's a great combination of education and enjoyment.
Omg I have been so busy working the front line for the homeless and less fortunate here in Canada guys I am sorry I haven't been around to give a thumbs up but wow this video was bloomin amazing with mucks expression and Dan's rock shout out man .I laughed so hard my wife came running yelling in my basement what are you doing . Ah love yah guys ...
The clock back against the wall is not working.
+Frederick Pfeiffer your comment made us laugh, Frederick. The clock is an institution of all the video and stills shoots we've done in this industrial location. By official decree it shall never be moved or reactivated!
+Guitarist Interesting.
+Guitarist But why 8:20? :-)
+Christian Friis I'm afraid that's classified.
+Christian Friis its 9.20 isnt it?
I have owned a lot of pedals in my life and swear I always go back to Boss Blues Driver and Ibanez Tube Screamer. Cheap units but there's a reason they are everywhere!
great to be able to hear the guitars, amps and pedals. Appreciate the review thanks guys!
One of my guitars is an Epiphone Casino with P90s. Would love to see what P90s sound like with all these overdrives...
Late to the party here, but wanted to comment that when you fed the Klon into the Tube Driver I grinned and laughed out loud: that combination sounds SO good!
I love the feel of Meat and 3 modded Soul Food into bias Tube Driver into Boogie. Got both Strat and L Paul for tools of trade.
So funny to see Mick actually speechless and his mouth hanging wide open?! Dan blew away some misconceptions again - these guys are always so good for many laughs and of course, a pile of great information - "ROCK"!! Keep up the good work fellas, you are both doing a great job and are very entertaining to boot.
these pedal comparisons are among the best on youtube. keep up the great work fellas.
You guys are the custom shop of the video realm. Always top notch.
This is a friggin EXCELLENT video - so hands-on, so expert, such great playing...bravo guys
Mick and Dan, you guys make the best show!
Great video. Just like your regular show!
I liked the Klon the least. I guess I'm in luck :-)
What a great room to jam in.
Big fan of your stuff. The eternity is great. A ts808 with buffers removed. Was jack orman who came up with it (son of a screamer). Well known in diy community. Just saying...Great demo!
You guys did a great job of playing short similar licks for comparison. Nice job staying on point!
That's my main sound now Gibson Les Paul Standard 2015 + Ibanez TS9DX tubescreamer + Marshall amp = heaven
Tube drivers are so awesome. They can be a bit finicky, but if you swap the 12ax7 for a 12au7 and really take the time to tweak it, it just sounds killer.
Guy on the left looks genuinely amazed with his pals tone. Haha. To be fair it's wonderful.
that Les Paul into the fender with the Screamer is just fucking AMAZING. Buttery~
Still cannot get over how fucking good Dan's Les Paul sounds
I wish my wife would look at me like Mick looks at Dan.
Robbin Wolfe 😂😂
This one made my day lmao
It’s love..
Damn you both..... I thought I'd found just the best tone in the world (PRS Mira, TS808HW going into a KOT into an Electradyne - yes I'm a very lucky boy) but now you guys are making me question what else is out there. Great vid. What works for me is how the 808 tightens up the big 6L6 lower end of the electradyne and punches out the mids.
Such an amazing video, one of the best lessons (in disguise) on using pedals and stacking them. Love D&M 😊
Ahh jtm45 best amp ever made in my opinion, just heavenly
The tube driver and love pedal was fucking amazing
tube driver is such a good overdrive and can make any 6l6 fendery amp instantly have that classic british crunch (which is why i prefer the american amps as you can add the british overdrive to a fender but you can't add the american clean to a marshall or orange). I have even heard it in front of the OD-averse twin making it sound nice and crunchy. I have the old bumblebee black/yellow tube works but this newer model sounds just as good (i won't be getting it as i am perfectly happy with my older one)
Really like your vids guys. So much objective knowledge from 2 passionate guitarists. I've seen all previews, all interesting and can't wait for the next one. Highly appreciated!
Mick with the Omega SMP! Great watch, great gear, and great playing. Excellent video & series. Gotta love the Tubescreamer :)
Another great vid, best most informative show on the internet keep up the great work.
I'm really liking these current videos Dan and Mick. I thought another good video could be germanium vs silicon and anything else I'm not thinking of as far as fuzz and boosts go. Where and how they work, exceptions, examples, the usual. Thanks guys keep up the good work!
I love the strat, tube-screamer and fender combo, holy crap!
In the previous video I really liked the vox with the strat and ep boost as well..
Awesome vid! Nice anderson strap too :)
My god, these guys do demos right.
All of these are great but I still love my old Boss SD-1. I'd take it over a Tube Screamer any day of the week. Just a personal preference of course.
these 2 are the best at explaining whats it all about - on you tube - Mick has his mouth open most the time while Daniel throws the head back at every chance they were both annoying at first but Im use to them now and the quality of their content out weighs the over acting. Well done boys. LOL
These videos show me exactly how little I actually know about amps/pedals and their interaction with different guitars. Both inspiring and frustrating...not sure which one I feel more.
it's a great thing to learn about this stuff
Dan's Klon -> Tube Driver -> Marshall licks were so shit hot, I melted my stereo listening to them. Jesus, son, preach on that thing
Probably worth mentioning that the Fender John Mayer Signature has big dippers - scooped mids pickups. Sad fender are no longer making them. Great video guys!
You guys tend to lean towards dark, warm, smooth. Difficult in what you pesent to hear much difference other than more or less saturated. I personally think its more difficult to get complex overdrive tones without extended highs as well as inverter and output tubes cooking up their textures. There are at least 3 distinct overdrive sections in a tube amp. More if you have greatly varied hot and cold biased clipping. Fizzy and Thin and Smooth in the preamp to Coarse and Full Multi faceted in the output. Adding solid state clipping further enhances texture. The big boys of classic rock cranked amps and got their signature sounds from the different mixing of overdrive tones. It wasnt all pedal and preamp centric.
You guys are the best!!! Time literally stands still when you play. Just got on the KOT wait list. Maybe demo the Mobius if you haven't already? I use it with a Chase Tone fuzz into a JTM 45 and Matchless Lightning stereo... amazingly huge sound.
Quite a lot of fantastic sound. Thanks guys.
There is a reason why i like vox and Marshall amps.Although i love the tweeds and the super reverbs playing them in real life
If you play through a tube amp then every OD demo sounds exactly the same: they are equally subject to many player variables and preference of a moment.
there is no 'set and forget', you dial it in and find the sweet spot - and THEN go. You do that, or else you fight it - like anything else that isn't how it should be until it is set up.
it is exactly why i've never liked the preset multi-fx-in-a-box approach, and don't fuss with loop switching devices unless a live set demands to be very tightly rehearsed.
nice demo. would have been good to hear a couple more bits with chords instead of licks/solo phrases coz thats where I find that if a pedal is a bit muddy I get problems
+bikesdrumsnstrings
I agree. Lot of pedals sound good playing licks. Strum a couple bar cords many turn to mush.
killer playing by both of you and what an excellent and informative video! tell us more about that les paul again Dan. it really does sound incredible!
2002 1958 Reissue. That's what he said in an episode of That Pedal Show.
+Christian Friis cool thanks. do you remember the pups too?
+Scott Card they're 'custom buckers' :| i looked into one of these before all the moths flew out of my wallet and into my eyes :'(
Fantastic video guys, please keep them coming!
This is a great series of videos
Cheap way to get the same sound of any of these pedals is via the gain on your amp in combo with the right tone and volume setting.
It's all a matter of taste, but I think the Deluxe Reverb blows any Marshall out of the water. Just so much more of a pure, sparkley warm clean sound, and when you put an overdrive in front of it it just has such a nice texture, whereas the Marshall just gives you that classic rock balls to the wall one dimensional sound.
This guys can play their guitars!
That 808 is amazing.
"A bit more love in the bottom end... "
Love this three videos and have truly enjoyed and learned a lot from them- But where's the Analogman King of Tone fellas??!!
WATCHMANNPC that was video #1
LOOK at how these guys interact when playing... it's epic 5:13
You know when a sound is really awesome just because of the look on their faces!
I thought the "bad Eric Johnson impression" was pretty darned good! Love that sound.
Marshall sounds best to me in all combos! That includes part 1 as well.
I think its because of their playing style. I love Marshall's. But if they were professional chicken pickers the fender would rule.
The tube screamer into the Marshall sounds great.
i love how you guys look at each other #NoHomo
That Marshall is an absolute beast.
Brilliant 3 part demo there guys and very detailed thank you thank you :))
Why show pedals ( love pedal) that no one can find and if you could find it the cost would be 350. or more? silver Klon pedal 2000.00
ive got the small sister of the centaur the klon ktr .and does it bring my marshall alive?oh yes.massive boost and clarity.
Great noodling on many different devices
very good presentation does not understand what they say but very short because the language of music is universal
For the first time in a pedal comparison, I'm hearing the Klon as a stand out winner (for me)
Although I definitely prefer the Strat, I was really surprised about how good the LP sounded with the TS808.
I owned a TS-9 and TS808, before settling to a Kalamazoo Lovepedal and a Sparkle Drive from VoodooLab. Sometimes I use a OCD for a brighter tone, and Workingmans Blue Overdrive Pedal for vintage like drive.
+Farrokh M
There are a hundred demo's on You Tube.
awesome as always guys!
Mick should try: Les Paul>Brwn deluxe. No TS 808 needed. Just a cable and a working volume control.
beautiful sounds as always!! That les paul into the tubescreamer and marshall is insane! What are pickups in dan's les paul??
Amazing video again! Thanks a lot
Great videos as usual.. how about some with Boogies? we've had a lot with fenders, marshals vox etc etc..
Going to be controversial and say I don't really like the Klon. Sure it's nice but I'd much rather spend money on the Eternity Drive, which sounds much chunkier texturally.
The thing with the Klon is that you have to play it in a band mix to hear where it sounds as best. I never liked it by itself, but in a busy band it cuts like nothing else!
I would love to get my hands on that beautiful green john mayer strat. Are the pickups in there the big dippers? Also does anybody know what year it is?
