11:03 - "Find out the shortcuts and solutions" to avoid traffic...How much you want to bet the next day, the shortcuts this news program offered were jammed with the people who watched this the night before? Also, that Wizard of Oz "Toto" commercial is brilliant.
*Sigh* I absolutely miss Radio Shack (mainly from the early to mid 90's). That JCPenny commercial showed a quick second of its catalog and those were awesome because I would circle the video games I wanted for Christmas.
I do remember when that whole webtv thing started.... pretty sure it faded away just as quickly as it showed up, but I'm sure some of those concepts are still around today... like I saw something for your cellphone you point your camera at the TV and you get pop-ups for scores and other displays sort of an AR-inspired thing, so it sounds like they're still finding a way to integrate internet and tv watching into one thing! and I'm pretty sure I remember 'yippie ki-yay [mr. falcon]" ah old tv edits never stop being funny :P
Man, gotta give credit to the news. While the images and hype around "future TV" was pretty cheesy, the fundamental concepts regarding TV/movies on demand to stream whenever, and people viewing most of their content "on a window" was really spot on. The UI graphics might have been 90's AF, but the layout and function is strikingly similar to our modern cable boxes' Guide menus. +1 to the news on aging in such a deliciously 90's way, but not aging on its accuracy.
Yeah, that accuracy sort of spooked me, especially because of the theories that the government/military are always multiple steps ahead with technology and sort of trickle it out to regular human society in such a way that they maintain being way ahead. Even scarier is that that special is from 93 or 94, which is still just a tad too early for even dial up internet to be a thing for everyday society. So for them to be talking about watching anything at any time and have full access to information at a time when the internet hasn't even been established yet is quite mindblowing. They even showed what looked like a video game being played online. I tried to search RUclips for that special and couldn't find it, probably because it was just a local news special and not a nationally broadcasted.
You young whippersnappers wouldn't recognize her voice, but that's the legendary Phoebe Snow singing the Stouffer's theme song. And in what alternate universe did KFC ever sell rotisserie chicken?! Must have been an American thing. Pretty freakin' expensive chicken too. 25 years later and I can buy the same thing at my local grocery store for one or two dollars more (depending on sales). Madness! Looking forward to seeing the full newsclip about the future of TV. Looks pretty accurate! It may have been dial-up, but the internet was becoming pretty popular at the time. I launched my website three years later in 1996.
The music for the Sudafed Cold and Cough liquid caps makes the commercial sound creepy! The slogan for Sudafed Cold and Cough liquid caps should be, "Sudafed: Gets rid of your cold, but makes you paranoid AF."
WCBS News promo-missed opportunity to use the AC/DC song Carlito's Way-good film, loved the train station chase near the end Harts of the West-guess he wont be acting up in class anymore Future TV-before Netflix,Amazon Prime,Hulu etc Walkter Texas Ranger-that was a crazy episode Return To Lonesome Dove-promo narrator is Peter Cullen CBS Tuesday Night Movie bumper-love how the "2" appears on screen every time the announcer says "Die Hard TWO" The Nanny-possible reboot coming soon with Cardi B (ugh) 14:37-there should be a scene in Die Hard 6 where someone tells McClane:"The person behind the Gruber schemes, the Esperanza ordeal in D.C,the cyber-hacking,what went down in Russia..his codename is(dramatic pause..) Mister,FALCON." McClane:"WHAT?"
One of the villains in Die Hard 2 (General Esperanza, the guy who is flying the plane when it explodes) is codenamed Falcon when they're using Walkie Talkies earlier in the film.
The early 90s still had lingering nostalgic vibes from the 80s.

DarkTetsuya i remember that too
I don’t remember the 90s being so innocent.
Yay WCBS but even I don't remember when they did a story about TV... OF THE FUTURE! Otherwise another nice example of how cool the 90s were.

@@80sCommercialVault Oh cool, I'll be waiting for that then, thanks!
I love these so much
They really did put that “yeepee ka yay Mr. Falcon” on there as Conan O’Brien pointed out! 😳😳😳
I can only relate on the Hooked On Phonics commercial. I remember seeing a commercial on UPN.
"Hooked on Phonics works for me!"
You young whippersnappers wouldn't recognize her voice, but that's the legendary Phoebe Snow singing the Stouffer's theme song.

Interactive TV? I guess the internet really took that over.
"TV Guide is a phone book!"
It took 20 years but they got there.

Just like when Citrucel missed the opportunity to use the Twisted Sister song.
I feel old
Doing voiceover work would be awesome, even if it’s for bad dubs.
Why did Bruce’s dubbed voice sound foreign though?
