  • After a couple years of scouting, I finally made it into Luxton's Couloir. An unexpected powder day made for the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Not the most flawless way to make it down the chute, but it worked.

This has got to be one of the craziest in bounds lines anywhere on planet earth. Right up there with saber slice. So amazing dude

Tried skiing this yesterday. Don't know my way around the West that well and thought I was dropping into Peytos (The much wider chute) and by the time I realized it was to late. Safe to say it was the scariest moment of my life, I can't imagine that anyone could ski it straight from the top. The pitch combined with the shitty snow quality made for a treacherous descent. Mad respect on the send man!

There have been a few known to ski it top to bottom, but not many. One of the Patrollers and one of the Instructors I worked with used to do this on good snow days.

Well done! I walked away from it probably a week or so ahead of you. Pretty intimidating!

Props to anyone who may have the guts to ski this kind of thing but I don’t get why they do it. For me, and it’s only my opinion, I don’t see why people potentially risk their lives like that. I’m sure for many it’s probably bragging rights to having done it. I’m sure for some it’s the thrill. To each his own I guess. Great job on the video.

This one isn't too bad. I scouted this line for about 2 years and waiting for a good opportunity before doing it. Sending this from the top is pretty risky, but doing this wasn't high consequence

I think it’s just one of those runs that you gotta be confident and just send it. If there was just a line to follow and no walls you would 100 percent be able to follow it so it’s just about believing in yourself and your skills

Wow! I could find video of the other 3 chutes in the wild west all over RUclips, but not Luxtons! So happy I found this🥲

Damn bro that took guts... I'll post mine when it hit it on a board! (Assuming it opens again). It doesn't look unmanageably steep (maybe 50° at max?), how was it for gaining speed? I feel like it's possible to rip down till it widens out then speed check a little bit...

Sounds good! Send me a message when you do. The steepness is definitely manageable, especially if you've done Bre-X. You can try to commit from the top, but its gonna be hard. If you look around 1:10, the couloir has a slight bend right at the tightest section, meaning you have to be ready. The landing will hurt if you do not execute flawlessly, you will hit the rock walls. My relatively small biff at the bottom ripped a nice 3inch gash in my snow pants and left medium bruises all over my right arm and upper ribs. The upper sections were also only good for one person doing what I did. I got footage of a second attempt, but I didn't ski it as well because my legs were just done and all the good snow was plowed out (I can send you that one in full too if you'd like). Would highly recommend waiting for a powder day, the West got 25cm since the last time it was open when I did it. The run out was really nice, but you have to be careful. I hit an icy patch similar to what Engler's choke point is right now right where I wiped out. The run out below that was incredible for the first track, but practically everything to the right or left of what I skied when I actually started turning was rock and ice covered up by a dust layer (the second attempt highlights that really well too). Would recommend waiting to commit until where I did for your first time and maybe bring in some poles or even an ice pick to help you through the choke. You will gain insane amounts of speed committing from the top, but more power to ya if you do.

Good on ya for being the first to post Luxton's... The rock walls do seem sketchy but getting that on the 360 camera would be awesome!

50° at max? Ha! Doubt it was even 40. Only 1% of skiers or even less can do 40. But a gnarly run. I did bre x and it's about 40° at the top where it's steepest. Not being a dick. Just i know how guys don't know the real angle of a slope

@@sirjibsalot8910 Fair enough! It's true, we more feel like something is steeper than it is.
