    Oh that’s just plain fun! Love the tone. I got a NE6 about five months ago and am still finding my way around it. I’m going to work on learning this solo and then I’m going to get my buddies in our old fart band to play the song so I can lay them out with the solo.

You may want to check out my master course on my website if you want to learn things from A to Z with your Nord Electro 6. I have lots of goodies not available here on RUclips. In any case, enjoy your Electro 6 - it's perfect for songs like this...

    Mark here’s a few suggestions for future Discovery Videos ...Gimme some lovin Spencer Davis Group Dreams Allman Brothers Band

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  3 года назад

      Hello @Murton Muffley Thanks for your suggestions. Gimme Some Lovin' has a chance at becoming a video down the road. Dreams on the other hand does not resonate with me as much - sorry! But with that said, I took a moment to figure out an approximate drawbar setting for the beginning of Dreams which is somewhere around this: 852300002 with percussion on (soft) and rotary fast. You can use that as a starting point at least. Then as the song progresses, it appears that they open up the drawbars quite a bit then bring them back down later. For The Spencer David song, I believe it has been noted that it's full drawbars. Here is a video that may get you started on this one too: ruclips.net/video/8X3_8LED2L8/видео.html

    Excellent job with this. I particularly like the additional portion related to the rotation of the speaker being turned off for a portion. It's details like this which can make a performance shine.

      Thanks Jas! You have an eye (ear) for the details. I was feeling the same way while rehearsing it. Man, that rotary speaker makes the difference for sure. No wonder it's been popular all these years - classic sound. Funny what humans gravitate towards in music. Who would have thought a rotating speaker would end up being beloved by millions (most of whom don't know what a Leslie is or how it works) - they just say "Hey, that's a cool organ sound."

    Thank you for the videos, I starting learning to play piano about 35 years ago and had an awesome teacher until he disappeared and I stopped. at 48 i'm wanting to start learning again. Thank you Mike for your background here. I have a feeling there are a lot of people that played when they were younger and are now just now finding a rebirth today. I love synths too! I would say there is no better than now to learn synths too - there is such a resurgence of interest and so many choices out there. Plus you have the option of going all hardware (like in the case of Nord keyboards), all software, or a hybrid of both. Thanks for your comment and yes, I plan more how-to videos coming up.

    Exciting To see how to use Nord keyboard effects with a piece of music

    It could have been prelude to some video ideas how to use the various buttons on the north keyboard during a live piece of music
    I use Nord stage 3 “Power 1” a-pan stereo with Output 1-2 “Panel A” and Output 3-4 “Panel B” for 4 speakers dual stereo very large power it sounds amazing when I change the speed of the button.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 года назад +2

      Wow Christian! You know how to take things to the next level!! Never had I thought about doing that but I bet it would sound amazing because you have the second set of speakers on panel B for an ultra-wide sound. Moves the air from 4 directions - love that! Now, where did I put those second set of speakers...
      Today I find myself researching the Mellotron on behalf of one of the students. I think that may queue up as the next video. I have people also asking about B3 settings with other songs too. So many ideas - it's all about finding the time to explore them all and bring these ideas to the surface. Good problem to have I guess. Thanks for stopping by today Christian - always good to hear from you.

    Would you do the kings switchin to glide/ this beat goes on

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Год назад

      Hello@Ebacklin - I just listened to the Kings songs. Sorry I won't have the time to do a video on this one, but here's some organ setting that will get you into the ballpark (if you're looking for their organ sound).
      Set to B3
      Turn on Rotary Speaker (fast) and put drive to between 5.5 and 6.8 (you can adjust to taste).
      Drawbars to: 008804408
      Percussion: off
      Vibrato/Chorus: Off
      Light reverb or none
      The only thing that holds this sound back from sounding more like the original is the way the Rotary fast setting is emulated on the Stage 3. It's a bit too heavy for this song but no real way to tone that down or change it to match. You can trim it a bit if you go under the sound settings and adjust the balance of the bass/horn to 30/70 to make it a tad less pronounced. But even then, it's still not exact.
      But, it will hopefully get you started and will likely do in a pinch and be acceptable to the audience at least.

    I can't afford a nordcand I don't have a computer. How do you get the sound of a hammond b3 with either a YAMAHA dgx or Korg R3. I do have a tablet and phone.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 года назад +1

      Hello ebmurray, I think the key to this song is to imitate the drawbars, which means you'll need an actual organ engine. That doesn't appear to be included for either of the boards you currently have. However, if you have an iPad, you can use GarageBand and imitate the drawbars that way because it has an Organ engine built in. If you don't have an iPad, I assume you have an Amazon tablet or one of the other brands. In that case, you'll have to see about getting virtual instruments for one of those, which might be a bit of a hunt. I did find this but no clue if it has an organ engine or not: ruclips.net/video/r8cobyq3mZA/видео.html. "Org 2018" is the name of the software I think. I really don't know anything about what's available for folks without a computer or an iOS-based tablet. Sorry!

      @@MyKeysToMusic thanks so much for the info. There is a hammond sk1 on the Facebook marketplace for 1600. But would I still need a computer, no. Because it's got the sounds i love, grand piano, hammond, and fender like the good Ole days.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 года назад

      @@ellenbacklin The SK1 would be a killer board for the sounds you are looking for. You could probably attempt to sell your existing Yamaha to make the budget work out better, too, perhaps. Or sell your Korg if you don't use it much. I have a video on my experience selling something on reverb.com here if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/1hP-DvMJK84/видео.html Best of luck!

      @@MyKeysToMusic I love my korg. With vocoder for rocky mountain way. Instead the talk tube whatever they call it. I use the vocoder for the Joe Walsh song. It's got some really amazing sounds. So many buttons to push and knobs to turn. Sound guy said try to make some patches so you don't have to keep turning volume up and down. Now another problem that I can't do without a computer. Not sure if the tablet will work with a USB port. Techno stuff is way over my head.

      @@ellenbacklin Rocky Mountain Way is an awesome song, and I love Joe's voice on it. Yes, the Korg must be fun to do with that one. What brand tablet do you have exactly? Hmm, you could also consider a lower-cost PC/laptop, which could probably help you through all of this a bit. Used/refurbished Mac computers are also an option. The world opens up once you go there, but yes, it requires extra tech time (and patience). With each passing year, music production becomes more and more reliant on the computer. I went to NAMM 2020 and it was rows and rows of electronic music equipment for as far as the eye could see.

    Nord is too expensive. Don't have midi. One of my bands drummers shooting me all this technical stuff on computer and midi. Way over my head. I prefer listening and then practicing. I do have keys 2 yamahas, korg r3 and roland vr-09 so it's fun

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Год назад +1

      I get it! Sometimes it's just nice to plug in and play. That's the beauty of having a stand-alone keyboard like the Nord or any of the ones you mentioned. It keeps the drama down to a minimum when you leave the computer at home. Then again, the computer does offer some nice features not possible on a traditional board, but it comes at a cost and a learning curve. It also takes time to get up to speed with all the tech. I happen to be a technical guy so the MIDI isn't as intimidating, but there are many days I just want to turn the keyboard on and start playing without all the "pomp and circumstance" of the tech. 🤙🏻

      @My Keys To Music amen. My drummer was going blah blah blah. I had gazed eyes 👀 not really but I was understanding a little. There's got to be a music store out there that teaches this instead of just piano lessons etc.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Год назад +1

      @@ellenbacklin Music stores don't tend to teach MIDI stuff for some reason. Perhaps teaching people MIDI doesn't help them sell keyboards so much! There are quite a few "beginning MIDI" videos here on RUclips. I've been contemplating doing a MIDI series specific to Nord. I think that would help a lot of people - but I also debate making that into a course instead so I can keep the lessons up to date easier and provide for a better learning experience. I have this debate on just about every video I make. 😳
      Here's something funny I just realized... Since when did drummers get so smart? 😇 We keyboard players are supposed to be the bright ones right?? You better learn how to master MIDI now - we can't let the drummer get the best of you! 😆
