    Hello Everybody! After thinking on it for a long while and looking at the feedback from the comments here, I have started a gofundme page. To make it clear, this is not a gofundme to pay for the LEGO that was lost. This is to help us get security measures in our apartment for the time being with any other funds going towards moving out of this place. Our complex has given us the run-around and refuses any responsibility, even though the security measures we pay for in the complex have been broken for the last 8 months or so. Please do not feel pressured to donate anything at all. This is just to help us get out of the apartment and to secure what we have for the time being. Thank you all so much for the support. I hope to have an update out within the next few days. Here is the link if you would like to help: gofund.me/c4c47ca1

    Insurance, unfortunately, probably won't cover this. Most insur. companies do not care about Lego. I recently just got insurance for my entire Lego room and contents. They sent over an agent who took photographs and inventory and got back to me with a separate plan from my homeowners. I pay around an extra 22 dollars a month, on top of my homeowners, for $50,000 in coverage if anything is damaged by mother nature, broken or stolen. Good luck, man. I'm so sorry 😞

    • @natbarmore
      @natbarmore 28 дней назад +2

      The problem is, unless you have special insurance designated for “collectibles” or similar, the insurance company is at best going to cover it for original purchase price (and not inflation-adjusted), and more likely only cover it for depreciated value. Which for a 20-40 year old Lego set is gonna be a small fraction of the original price. :-(
      Basically, if you don’t tell the insurance company when getting your policy that you have stuff that’s more valuable than what they consider “typical”, they won’t cover it at higher than that rate when you make a claim. This mostly gets those of us with valuable collections of “inexpensive” stuff, like toys and Lego and books, but the same would happen if you had expensive jewelry you hadn’t told them about ahead of time or an expensive bicycle.
      Insurers will insure almost anything, if you pay them enough, but they want to know ahead of time how big a claim might be. Which isn’t always a reasonable ask, IMHO-my Lego collection I can give a reasonable estimate of replacement value. My books? Ugh, not a clue. [which reminds me I need to check whether our policy is covering our “extra” stuff]

    So sorry to hear about your lego being stolen. I can't even imagine the pain you feel. I had a child mess up my lego after being told not to go in the lego room. I have always been one to keep all my sets in zip lock bags and keep the pieces that came with the set together. However that day, he mixed everything up. Pieces were missing and broken. This happened back in early 2003 or 2004. I haven't been able to buil the sets back yet. But I am getting close to rebuilding. It really hit me hard that another person ruined my love for Lego. It will never be the same as I was very OCD on how my sets were put together. But I think once the sets are complete again the pain will diminsh greatly. Again I am so sorry. Those childhood sets mean the world to anyone as an adult lego collector. My collection started in the mid 1980's. Stay strong and realize that the sets may be gone but you will find comfort in the other sets that you love and the sets that are yet to come. Take care. My heart goes out to you.

    Sorry dude. Something similar happened to me (not to this extent). Confidence and concern around keeping anything in storage was shattered. You'll want to talk with the apartment building management about improving the security. We required to bolt lock the entrance to storage, but I always had concern and also moved most of my valuable Lego's elsewhere. Hope it works out for you. At least you got the police to show. They were too busy to file a report on a small break-in 😕

    Damn that really sucks!! I had a similar situation happen to me. But they went into my garage & stole thousands of items i had in pallets. Its always the ones you know... they dont randomly hit up a random garage/storage & hit the jackpot.... if nearby garages/storages got robbed that day/week as well then it was random.

    Yo this really sounds like it’s not random. The fact that you had a tv on the ground and it was still there, means to me that it was someone in you know or someone that you know told another person and they set that up. 45 retired lego sets don’t just get stolen out of a random apt storage room. What are the odds that this would be a coincidence, check local listings, fb marketplace, offer up, Craigslist, check your local bricks and minifigs or report it to them incase they have someone come in with those sets. You also should reevaluate your circle of friends and really think about who you’ve told and who they have told. In my eyes this is in no way a random theft. I really hope this helps in anyways and I hope for the best in hopefully finding them. Or atleast the person who did it. Don’t quit there’s a reason you started building and remind yourself that!

  • @varsityathlete9927

    they knew what they were doing, leaving the lock on means well.... did something get stolen? no lock broken here.
    the reality is almost every lock out there can easily be picked. or they got a clone of your key, can be done very quickly.
    the real question is how did they know which unit, have other units in that place also had items stolen - very important.
    that will tell you if it was targeted to you, or just a bunch of them were hit by a clever thief. one of the issues with storage units, someone might not know it was stolen for months or even years, as they often hold very long term storage. edit its in your building, that is as inside as it gets.
