Georgia, I really Really REALLY hope that it's your toenail and not your toe that's gone black. A toenail gone black will eventually fall out on it's own and get replaced. An entire black toe that's swollen and gone from horribly painful to having not much sensation usually means a broken toe bone, and it's usually the outermost digit that's gotten cracked. If you don't get it properly treated, it will definitely turn into a much more dangerous situation, and much sooner than you think. I'm talking about further necrosis, gangrene and sepsis. Please get yourself to a decently equipped and staffed GP, and get your toe looked at, and treated. Seeing to it now most likely won't involve surgery, and you'll probably have 3-4 follow-up appointments for progress assessment and/or wound cleaning and re-dressing. Please, Please, PLEASE go in first thing in the morning!
How different? Foreigners are now not allowed to drive a car/motorbike in Bali. There are also a suite of other restrictions imposed on foreigners in Bali. Roads are poorly maintained too.
