Most album recordings are made in an environment where artists are recording one song or so a day, allowing them to push their upper ranges without having to worry very much. Also, studios will often tune up an artist's voice in post. In almost every live recording I've seen, Hozier sings the songs at least a halftone to a full tone lower than the album recording. Pretty sure it's so he can save his voice while touring. It's also probably his natural vocal range more so than what's on the album.

So I waited and resale tickets came available...... I ended up paying $140 for one ticket. But hey he is worth every cent! ☺
This is the best version in my eyes. You can really hear his voice here. It’s so clean and beautiful. I LOVE that he can’t reach that high note (deathless) and his voice cracks. It’s so vulnerable and frágil. It’s so real. Just him and his guitar. It touches your heart and makes you cry.

This somehow resonates so much with the pain I felt through the years I was struggling to believe in god and hold onto a faith that was crumbly since I was about 9. Accepting myself as an atheist in my early 20's was both, a very painful arrival and also, a relief.
Wow, 2022 and it’s my first time listening to this version. He’s just amazing and I still love this song and the lyrics. He’s just brilliant and so so talented.
I've now watched this version daily, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. I've never allowed myself to listen to a great song too much, for fear of burning out. I know however, with Hozier, I never grow tired or burned out. I think my heart grows with each time. I don't know if it is possible to love an artist more than I love Hozier. I've now watched this version daily, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. I've never allowed myself to listen to a great song too much, for fear of burning out. I know however, with Hozier, I never grow tired or burned out. I think my heart grows with each time. I don't know if it is possible to love an artist more than I love Hozier. He is my heart, and has been like a dose of good medicine daily. Seems I can't stop myself from shutting out everything and I go into a Hozier trance !!!. He is a master! 🤟❤😍👏
