    For the tomato and basil sauce, Add a pinch of sugar, 1/4-1/2 teaspoon depending on the amount of sauce you are making and to taste (16-24 ounce containers), to tone down the acidity and enhance the seasonings that you use.

    Marcellla Hazan's sauce recipe is great. One can if of tomatoes, 1/2 stick salted butter, salt and a whole peeled onion, cut in half..place all ingredients in a covered saucepan, simmer on low 30 minutes and discard the onion. Blend sauce with immersion blender or just mash tomatoes with a fork

    Those sun-dried apricots seem like they'd be great in a dessert (ice cream or shredded up to be sprinkled on a cake) or in a salad or even as part of a more savory wrap (to replace something like cranberries). I'm intrigued!
    Thanks again for your detailed reviews! You're always helping me with exploring a new object for fun or saving my money if it's not the best TJ's product. Your honesty is always appreciated.
    Also, I love that you are wanting to teach your son a bunch of different cultures/lifestyles outside and inside the US. Very thoughtful. I've noticed, too, that you have been very thoughtful of different cultures and learning about them when you discuss a product (the foods from different countries and your positive call out to the Love and Pride wine last month)--which further enriches your reviews!
    Looking forward for your next videos!

    You guys took both of my things that I would like to do but haven't been able to. I really want to travel. I especially want to go back to Italy and to visit my host family in England. Being on disability, money is a huge issue, as are caring for my mother who has dementia, trying to fit it in between chemo treatments (when I'm on chemo), and being the go-to person who watches everyone's kids and animals when they're gone, which often conflicts with when I end up having availability. I also want to learn more Spanish and Italian. I know some of each, but my chemo brain has forgotten a lot. My niece and I made a pact that I will start studying while she works on learning Vietnamese, and she has agreed to quiz me on my Spanish.

    The question was a good one! My animals are holding me back too. We've had fur babies for over 20 years. Currently down to one dog, one bunny and 5 chickens. Just lost our senior cat last month & I'm still heartbroken. And our senior dog is not well either. My issue is two-fold. I have trust issues too about who watches my babies. But I'm also terrified that something would happen while we were gone and I'd never forgive myself for not being with them. We're retired so I'm home with them all the time, which I love so much. We've never been huge travelers, but do enjoy getting away from time to time. We've committed to do some air travel between when they are gone & us rescuing another dog. I know that when we're not traveling, I'd be incredibly depressed and lonely when we're home without any animals, so we'll at least have a dog. But, we plan to vehicle train so they can go on road trips with us. That's the best of both worlds in my book. And I've written a book in response so I'll stop now. 😂

    Those stir fry veggies are so good! I've been buying them over and over again, the texture and flavor are so good!
    What's holding me back is my own anxiety. I've been lamenting recently that I don't have many "in real life" friends to hang out with since most have moved away but I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts (and I watch a ton of Lifetime movies where the person you least suspect is the one causing all the problems) so I have a really hard time trusting/believing anyone. I just always am looking for the catch or that they have some underhanded reason why they're even talking to me.

    Italian and that’s how all of my family members did it. I would never leave my pets. The only time I did was once for four days when my dad was dying, but my husband stayed with them. But I would never go on vacation and leave my cats so my husband did he go on vacation and I stayed home with the cats. I trust nobody with them. Now my babies are in heaven, but I could never leave them with anybody. And they were very attached to me too. I now pet sit for my neighbor next-door in my apartment where I’m living they go away a lot and I watch their 14-year-old cat. And I love it and they know I’m a crazy cat mom. The tomatoes are to be used as a foundation to start a sauce like for lasagna, chili and yes spaghetti sauce which all require additional ingredients. I don’t think it was intended to be used as a pasta sauce.

    • @KatieHespe
      @KatieHespe  2 месяца назад

      Isn’t spaghetti and pasta sauce the same thing? I added a lot of seasoning to it and made it into marinara…I guess I’m not understanding your conclusion of it not being made into a sauce, but also saying it can be made into a sauce??

    • @Tasteofdc1
      @Tasteofdc1 2 месяца назад +1

      @@KatieHespe I am sorry for the confusion. What I meant is that the tomato with Basil sauce should be treated like a can of tomato sauce and definitely intended to be added with lots of seasoning and ingredients to make a flavorful sauce for what ever pasta you choose. It is not intended be used alone. So it is good that you added lots of seasoning and other ingredients. I hope this makes sense. Thoroughly enjoyed your video !! Thanks !! 😊

    Hi Tim and Katie! I would like to do some more local day trips, but I can't drive now due to health issues. Transportation is really an issue for me. I am always working on finding different solutions, and in the meantime, I try to be as creative as I can about it.
    I did house- and pet-sitting for over thirty years. One suggestion I can make is to talk with friends you know, or ask in groups where you have good friends and contacts like church, the PTA, or even your vet's office. They will probably have reliable, trustworthy people to suggest. When you get a referral you'd like to try, invite them to your home first to meet your pets before you leave on a tripn. You'll get a sense of how your animals react to that person, and if they are a good fit for you and your pet-care needs. If it seems like a good choice, maybe go somewhere overnight, or for a weekend, to see how it works out. Over time, as you get comfortable with each other, you will hopefully be able to take some longer trips. This is how it worked with many of the people I helped in the past. I was linked to all of my petsitting clients through church and word-of-mouth, as they knew I did a good job. Best wishes, and thanks for the video!

Her head snapped over, looked at me, repeated it with a smile and brought three out. I’d add some red wine to the sauce and cook it out the alcohol.

    Oakville is a town in the Napa Valley and it's also an AVA (Amerian Viticultural Area). It's known for cabs. You guys need to go wine tasting up there--both Napa and/or Sonoma--so you'll see the "source" of some of these TJ's and Costco wines. It's not that far--have one of the parents take care of Benson and the pets for a few days.

    Often the Trader Joe's wines will say "Napa" but only because the wine was produced in the area. Usually the actual grapes are grown elsewhere. They do this to draw people in. Not a lie per se, but not fully true either. Not to say Trader Joe's or any other inexpensive wines aren't good, they certainly can be, but a lot of corners are cut to get the price point.

    I would have to say that fear is holding me back to enjoying my life to the fullest. I have issues with my knees and arthritis. I'm afraid to have to undergo major surgery and physical therapy afterward. I don't want to deal with the pain, but then again, I'm experiencing pain right now! I'm at the age where I should be enjoying life and traveling but I have to think about how I can get around. I have a trip of a lifetime planned right now for next year, with some family members. My daughter says I should take care of whatever I need to do to be mobile again to ensure that I have a good quality of life. She said that I used to outwalk her! and she had a hard time keeping up with me. I need to get some medical attention done this year so I can be recuperated and go on to enjoy my vacation. I used to also have issues with leaving my fur babies but I have another daughter who is always happy to watch them for me. She takes good care of them as if they were hers.
    Keep up the taste tests and videos. I really look forward to seeing them and your hauls every week!

      As you have the opportunity to have your issues fixed, please, please, please take it as soon as possible. Yes, there’ll be pain but that’s short term, and then you’ll have your freedom to live as you want to again. I have an incurable progressive disability, so my ability to walk is steadily worsening, and other parts of my body are weakening too. If I had the possibility to be healed by surgery, I’d be first in line for it. Grab your chance to get your life back to normal ASAP!

You can’t be too careful when it comes to someone watching your children or other babies. That’s a tough question. My answer is probably foolish compared to everyone else’s. Mine is my brown thumb, I’ve always wanted to have a luscious garden with fruits and vegetables flourishing. Between the weather, soil and my lack of skills, it will never happen, darn it. Indecision is holding me back. I want to finish my education. I'm a senior in college, minor in psychology, not sure what I want my major to be. Holding me back is not knowing what to do with an almost finished major in English Literature, which is not my cup of tea. I wish I could start all over again, and focus on what I really want to do, which is early childhood education. (Btw, when my counselor at Seattle University told me I already had a minor in psychology, it blew me away cuz I just took psych classes cuz I loved them so much😳 Anyway, sorry to ramble. I just wish I had followed my interests and not what was expected of me. Does this make sense🤦🤷🏻
