Q: how far can you walk? A: up side of my house to car - she assumed that was 20m (it is 14m and I need to sit wen I get to car) Q: can you walk for one minute at a slow pace? A: I don’t know - question repeated several times until I felt obliged to say yes (used the ‘politeness principle’ to coerce preferred answer) - my slow pace is probably much slower than hers but irrelevant - she decided that means I can walk 30m Both questions asked on telephone and we had never met nor had they visited Lost higher mobility to 0 - reinstated standard rate at MR but still lost half
They asked me how long it takes to walk from the car to the GP office, how long it takes from the front door to the gate, they are on this theme of questioning for sure.
For Mobility, I wanted and thankfully got 4 points, but that was the only points I received for the Mobility section... I got 6 for Daily & 4 for Mobility, which meant mandatory reconsideration.
Hi Charlie, I have osteoarthritis of the knees (both) due to the physical exercise (and in some cases) getting bestted (military term for a lot of exercise and quick) in the army, I used to be a HGV Class 1 driver/Coach driver, I have had to stop driving due to severe hypertension and severe pain in knees, I have recently failed PIP, (I'm Rambling), They asked if I can drive, and I have said yes with sever pain so don't drive a lot, but I still retain my licences, I have told them that the top half is fine but the bottom halve is knackered, would it be possible to clarify what is considered acceptable driving for a person to claim pip please.
I’m so confused about this with my conditions. ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia and RA. 90% of the time I’m bed with severe symptoms including dizziness and weakness making even a 10 stop walk to the bathroom precarious. I have to hang on to the walls. My bedroom is tiny so walking aids are just a liability. I can be in this severe state for months. Then my symptoms can ease off slightly and I do not feel so week and dizzy. I can even have a very slow and crooked walk along the road stopping to catch my breath. All of a sudden my head will start to swim, I’ll feel faint and very unwell. I hobble back to bed and my symptoms will be so severe again for 2, 3 or 6 months or longer. It really is impossible trying to answer this question. If I cannot do something consistently should I say I can’t do it? It is just so stressful. X
I also have severe ME and fibromyalgia. To be honest much of what you've written here would be good imo to write on your PIP form. Concentrate on the times you are only able to walk the 10 steps to the toilet. However, as you occasionally leave the house, it's important that you say this but explain what happens when you do. I would also say approximately how many times a year? in your case as I can't imagine it's many. The key with PIP is can you do x repeatedly, reliably, safely, whenever you want to without pain, fatigue etc. You clearly can't. PS I'm bedbound, completely housebound but have been in this system for many years.
I walk the same with my rollator if I try walking as you’re supposed to I end up kicking it as I walk and trip up so I only use it if I need a seat now and use crutches the rest of the time
I applied for pip got refused yet again, I'm going to ask for a review, pip didnt even contact my GP who has now given me a letter to send off ,i have arthritis, stenosis of the spine, accute sciatica, ptsd depresion any help would be great
I'm confused Charlie if you like me are chronically ill our conditions don't get better they get worse especially when auto immune related . Also i have so many relapses i could be OK 1 minute cabbaged the next
