Hi Glen. You are at the front of what I think will be a very big parade. Nomad/Forger and a handful of iOS tools will be integral production tools. The touchscreen just works for me like a “real computer” never did. This is important stuff. Indies should be jumping up and down right now for the brilliant and very affordable apps in music & sound, graphics, video and animation. And here is the education on RUclips. What an awesome time to be an artist! Thanks for your contributions! 🙏🎩🎩🎩
Thanks John. I absolutely agree. I’m a long time digital sculptor and I’ve been dying to get this level of program on an iPad. I’m planning loads of content and more comprehensive videos to cover these subjects. We are about to open another channel for long format videos and content. We need somewhere to host embedded videos, reviews, tool, specific videos. With this and VR sculpting and modeling I think I have my hands full for a few years.
SouthernGFX ...if you build it, they will come. I sure will. The quickness with which independent teachers and “coaches” like you embrace, master, and teach this new technology just can’t be found elsewhere, at any price. Been poking around your channel at the VR sculpting stuff, too. Something about the iPad, though,...if you can achieve excellence with these tools, then then the other tools await you. But what I’ve seen and heard done on iPad seem very professional to me. Planning on digging into your stuff. ✌️⚙️⚙️⚙️
Trimming in perspective view is really a very powerful handy way to sculpt a beautiful organic hard surface easily. I think the " shadow box " is good for exploring some geometric mechanical form in a fraction of time. Really enjoy your demo at the end of the video, 17:38 . Thx for your sharing !
Another really great tutorial. Many thanks, Glen. I'm sure you're getting loads of requests for future topics. I would be interested in seeing you go about creating a head-and-shoulders portrait of someone, if you find the time to do one.
Another great video man. One thing I’d love to see you cover in another video is if you trim/but don’t fill, what can that be used for? As someone who isn’t a 3D designer I can’t figureout why you’d ever want to do that
Uncle Jessy Thanks Jessy. I use trim almost all the time now as I do in ZBrush. I LOVE the new Split brush which gives you the two models separated and closed but the Trim with holes not filled doesn’t really add much. I do,use it for making complex shapes for mechanical models. I just trim away as needed leaving the open shell then flood the mask and extract off it. You could do this without switching close off but I find I can get better shapes this way. Voxel delete and booleans is what we need now. For this or Forger to become the perfect 3DPrint tool we need to be able to make keys and Boolean like we do,in ZBrush with ease.
Just a like addition from Stephan the developer. I didn't mention the ’smooth shade’ option in the Display settings. Go take a look to make sure your edges are as smooth as possible. Turn it off
Hiya glen, merry Xmas time. I was wondering how to mimic the trim smooth border brush from zbrush. Its a brush i use daily in zbrush. Any help would be greatly appreciated
When removing material without fill, can the shell that’s left behind be thickened to create a body? Great tutorial by the way. I came here after seeing Uncle Jessy’s app review on RUclips....and I see he’s already haunting these halls = he’s everywhere!
Great tut. I wish that trim would also work similar as voxel hide in 3D Coat - when I trim from the side in Nomad, using a rectangle, it fills the hole without taking into an account the rectangle shape. It should go through all the shape, rather than making curvy fill, you can notice that here 9:15
Yep that's high on my wish list too. Nomad doesn't have voxels as such but the developer just added a few features that will help. Live boolean's like ZBrush would be even better
thanks again for this tutorial..... one question: my main 3d software is cinema 4d, version 15.... i realized, that the nomad painting does not export texture maps, which c4d could use..... if i would purchase also forger,, would i be lucky to paint better there, and export textures as jpg or png?
Sorry for the slow reply. Out main software for TV work in the studio is Cinema and we use it daily. The stuff we have done in Forger and Nomad has ended up in Cinema but we take the painting (vertex painting, Poly paint etc.) and turn it to texture maps in ZBrush. You can do it in Blender as well I believe. This explains it but if you don't have ZBrush I'd explore Blender for free. ruclips.net/video/YVpqVxNWHhM/видео.html
Really interesting! i use a lot of time Shadowbox for sketching hard surface in Zbrush. acrually on ipad i'm using Forger but on 10" I finde the interface a little bit bulky. Can I ask some question? 1- Nomad looks like more similar to Zbrush and more versatile, right? support keyboard shortcut? 2- I'm using Shapr3d on Ipad for some tecnical and hard surface modeling but, really hate to pay mounthly or yearly a product. Do you know some alternative similar to buy onetime only? Thank You so much for your hard work! (and sorry for my bad english) '
I love Shapr but like you I didn't wan to pay monthly. Shapr is much more of a solid modeller (CAD) rather than a polygon/sculpting package. I don't know of any other app that does what Shapr does sadly.
No sadly. He would have been an awesome guy to have brought this to life. I haven't followed his work since Pixologic swallowed him up. Sculptris standalone was great. Dynamic triangulation is now fairly standard but he was a pioneer.
I don't know if anyone can help but I am having a problem I can't resolve. I am trying to use the lasso trim with flip so I can draw a design and then extruded it, but when I use flip I get the object I have trimmed twice, parallel to each other and from there I can't sculpt on my object :(
Thanks. Currently I can’t figure out how to exit the brush, any brush in Nomad Sculpt? Google searches not finding the answer...Tap on icon? Nope. Tap on screen? Nope...Laurie
You're videos are going to help me eat a lot of popcorn this weekend..... i bought the Nomad app and love the simplicity yet the power it has. I've been importing meshes into Fusion 360 but that program just doesnt handle a lot of meshes well. My question--------- Can I import an obj, create a brush with that obj/mesh and paint onto another surface? Their tool description page shows what looks to be what I'm looking for; nomadsculpt.com/manual/tools.html#nudge Do you have that brush trick in one of your videos?
@@SouthernGFX Awesome! One last thing and I'll leave you alone. i used the app to make a model that was a design I made in Fusion and printed it on my resin printer. The crispness wasn't as good as I had from Fusion. the printer is a new type that uses 4K mono screens and gives some really nice detail if the model has it. one of your videos talked a little about adjusting resolution adjustments before and after merging(?). Can you point me to that, please? Am I wanting too much from the app? Can Nomad work with high res obj's and export them keeping it crispy? On-screen it looks great but the 4K resin printer looks to notice things a little softer.
@@coulterjb22 I have a 4K Peopoly Phemon and my prints from Nomad are no different than the ones I do from ZBrush. Are you a member of our Ipad sculpting group? If you could post inches there I can help more

My pleasure!

SHADOWBOX! I like it!
100% shadowbox right
Great demo Glen thank you for this, helped me no end.
Great to hear that Mark

You are very welcome.
What if you did want to bore a sharp out of the center a primitive? I’ve yet to see this done in any tutorial.
Hi Mike. Take a look at this tutorial ruclips.net/video/7wi-igoD0Wo/видео.html
I like the project tool better, because it doesn’t destroy the original grid.

Will do. I'm doing a full beginners set of tutorials so it will get covered there too.

He’s a force of nature alright. He’s cost me thousands! I bought the Peopoly Phenom because of Jessy.
Rather than remove material, use masking and extract the surface telling it what thickness you need. Works perfectly.
Damn shadow box 🤘
I know. 100% the same lol
Trim has had a massive update such as split for creating new meshes.
Agreed. Split is worth a video on its own. So clean
