The North Eastern accents along with the Liverpool accent is probably the hardest accents for Americans to understand so actors from these regions tend to alter their accents so Americans can understand them. Jamie Bell from Middlesborough has a similar to this guy. Daniel Craig and Jason Isaac who are born and raised in Liverpool sounds like they are from London and lost their accents.

At work as well as Italian I also speak English and Spanish and when I speak Italian many think that I am Spanish because my accent is very similar to Spanish rather than Romanian. And that thing wouldn't stop flapping its wings and ugh I feel for him. But trust me when I say this, God forbid, but if you ever find yourself in that situation, just take some hot oil and pour it inside your ear. It sounds bad, it isn't. It will quickly kill the bug and the bug will eventually fall out from your ear while you sleep or lie down. It's much less painful than anything you'd get done at the hospital and it's very quick.
